THE CHAPTER 6
CRIMINAL LAW AND FAMILY LAW:
THE CHRISTIAN PHILOSOPHERS.

 Exploring Father Wojtyla's work helps us understand how his

philosophical ideas about relationships and ethics impact current
debates in Philippine family law. It's like unraveling how his
thoughts on morality connect to discussions on divorce, same-sex
unions, and birth control in the country today. In simpler terms, it's
about seeing how deep ideas can shape our views on important
legal and cultural matters.

THIS IS FROM THE TOPIC OF MS. SUMAIL ;

From this work of father wojtyla, we can put into perspective philippine family law
restrictions on absolute divorce, same-sex unions, and artificial birth control.
Topic 1: Person as a sexual partner
• reformulated the kantian imperative in that “anyone who treats another as means to
an end….violates that person’s natural rights to pursue his ends”
• according to wojtyla “you may not treat a person as only the means to an end, but
must allow for the fact that he too have distinct personal ends”
• a person must not be merely the ‘means” To an end for another person, because
anyone who treats a person as the means to an end does violence to the very essence of
the other
Sexual objectification – reduces a person to a consumer item, making him or her
dispensable once the person loses his or her desirable traits.
Love is the only legitimate sexual response to a person, which ensures that the other will
not be treated only as sexual object.
* “ a person must thus be loved as he or she is, accepted and regarded in his totality, and
not only sexually desired”
* if love is to be beautiful, if it is to be whole and complete, it must be “fully integrated,”
Meaning it must incorporate in correct order or priority all the elements of love
Love is demanding
The value of a person demands an unconditional commitment of the will in the fullest
possible way.
in sex, this occurs in the demand for committed love in marriage
in sex, there is the meeting of bodies and souls; of minds, emotions and sensibilities.
Topic 2: Pleasure & love
Pleasure:
is natural and good, but it is not the highest good.
it is the essential ingredient of human happiness
it is essentially incidental, contingent, something which may occur in the course of
action
Love:
love is the fullest realization of the possibilities inherent in man.
a genuine love is one in which the true essence of love is realized- a love which is
directed to genuine good.
“the value of the person is always greater than the value of pleasure”
