INT. CASINO, GAME FLOOR - NIGHT

Loud, bustling crowd. The blackjack tables are almost empty,
aside from VINCE RAQUIS (late 30's). A boyish DEALER stands
across from him.
Vince is dealt an EIGHT of diamonds. He slides a PURPLE CHIP
forwards...
VINCE
What do you bet a King will be
next?
The dealer chuckles nervously, places down a FIVE of clubs
towards Vince, an ACE of hearts towards him.
Vince tsks rapidly, lifts and drops his stack of chips.
VINCE (CONT'D)
I've got this method, uh...
(checks dealer's nametag)
Carson. You know what that is?
CARSON
Luck, perhaps?
VINCE
If I needed luck, I'd be sitting
under a bridge with a cardboard
sign. I've got this method that
whatever number I say, the
denomination will be half the value
I guess.
CARSON
Some would say that prediction
relies on luck.
VINCE
Not in my case. Some people predict
the future, others can see it.
CARSON
What do you predict the next card
to be? What if it were odd?
VINCE
Then I'd choose not to guess.
He slides forwards another PURPLE chip.
2.

Carson pauses, waiting for a guess. Vince taps his hand upon
the table, and Carson lays down a SEVEN of clubs.
CARSON
Would you care to stay?
Vince flips the eight of diamonds over.
VINCE
I'll stay at twenty. Let's see what
you've got.
Carson does his own. He's got a QUEEN of SPADES along with
his ace. Twenty one.
Vince grimaces.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Feel free to hit me.
CARSON
Sir?
Vince raises a FIST.
VINCE
You right handed?
(Carson nods)
Hit me. Right here.
He taps his left cheek.

CARSON
I'm not allowed to...
VINCE
Two hundred says you are.
Carson PUNCHES Vince in the left cheek, not super hard, but
DAZES him. Vince wobbles, chuckling.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Thanks, I needed that.
He pulls out a HUNDRED and slaps it on the table. Vince turns
and walks down the line towards the exit.
CUT TO:

EXT. CASINO, SIDEWALK - MOMENTS LATER

Vince SHIVERS, waiting. A black Land Rover pulls up along the
curb to him and he gets in.
3.

INT. LAND ROVER - CONTINUOUS

The chauffeur, ALEX NEILSON (30's), and Vince's bookie DEAN
KENNINGS (30's)
VINCE
The hell are you wearing a suit
for, Dean?
DEAN
We're in a Land Rover. It comes
with the package. You should be
wearing one too, you just got
chauffeured from a casino.
VINCE
That's exactly why I'm not wearing
one.
DEAN
Since when are you so humble?
VINCE
I felt like eating buffalo wings.
DEAN
That's why you were in there? Not a
Wingstop?
Vince chuckles.
VINCE
I was there to get some extra cash.
I didn't want my suit dirty.
DEAN
How much extra cash did you earn?
VINCE
(smiling, embarrassed)
Negative three thousand dollars.
Plus a hundred-dollar tip.
DEAN
(annoyed)
You know what? You're a bad
investment, a real bad one.
VINCE
You're just happy your commission
gets dealt out first.
4.

DEAN
You bet I am, with your ass handing
out hundred dollar tips all the
time.
VINCE
I thought generosity was a virtuous
quality?
DEAN
It is until you abuse it. Giving
out thousands of dollars for show
doesn't look charitable, it makes
you look like an asshat.
ALEX
You know, I think Vince is right.
He's got the money for it.
Vince smiles and hands over a HUNDRED DOLLAR BILL. Alex
snatches it happily.
VINCE
I think you ought to listen to Alex
more, Dean.
DEAN
Oh please, your commission makes
that pocket change.
VINCE
(jokingly)
You feelin' generous, Dean?
Alex and Vince laugh, but Dean looks away, pissed.
DEAN
Real funny.
VINCE
You gonna give me some company back
here?
Dean grumbles, undoes his seatbelt, and crawls to the back
next to Vince.
ALEX
Any room for me, Vince?
Vince chuckles, then looks stern, annoyed.
5.

VINCE
Just get us home.
(to himself)
Asshole.

DEAN
Lyle‘s in the pen. Got taken last
night apparently.
VINCE
(surprised)
You serious?
(Dean nods)
What the hell was he doing?
DEAN
(shrugging)
I dunno. Whatever you told him to
do. Tried roughing up some street
thug we were selling to.
VINCE
I didn’t ask him to do that. I
didn’t ask him to do anything but
listen to Isaiah.
DEAN
Is Isaiah in charge now or
something?
VINCE
No, I’m in charge. Lyle’s supposed
to listen to anybody higher up, but
he can't help but listen to
himself.
DEAN
You need to be more careful with
who you trust. It's a miracle
you've had success.
VINCE
I never said I trusted him. I
barely know the guy. Chino fuckin'
hired him.
Dean looks off.
DEAN
Tell Chino he's a couple steps from
dumping the whole operation.
6.

VINCE
You wouldn't say that to his face
if he was here.
DEAN
You bet I would.
VINCE
Chino is six foot four. Highschool
varsity linebacker. You're bald at
thirty and stare at a computer all
day.
DEAN
Which you pay me to do.
VINCE
Yeah, and I'm glad I don't pay you
to hire people, cause you don't
know what the hell you're talking
about.
Alex chuckles, and Dean looks furious.
DEAN
(pissed)
Shut the fuck up Neilson.
ALEX
(peering at him through
the mirror)
Thank God you didn't hire me. I
can't imagine...
DEAN
(pissed)
Keep your eyes on the road and shut
the hell up.
VINCE
Don’t talk to my guy like that.
He’s got a right to talk just as
much as you. You don’t control the
goddamn conversation. You work for
me, remember that.
DEAN
Yeah, whatever.
VINCE
Let’s talk about that Tapia bet for
a second. You told me Soro didn’t
have a chance. What the hell
happened there?
7.

Dean looks at him, still angry.

DEAN
I went through all the probabi-
lities, I figured he'd come out by
a ruling.
VINCE
You put my thirty-five grand on a
judge ruling? You said it was
wingspan differentials. That shit
makes a huge difference, or were
you just bullshitting me?
DEAN
What the hell would I gain from
bullshitting you? I had four
thousand on the line too, don’t
forget.
VINCE
(joking)
I know, I know, I just need
somebody to blame.
DEAN
I was gonna use that money on a car
for my daughter, I needed that
money.
VINCE
Well you should’ve done more
research then.
(laughs)
God dammit.
CUT TO:

EXT. VINCE’S CAR SHOP, SIDEWALK - MOMENTS LATER

The Land Rover stops along the curb of a CAR SHOP. Vince hops
out, turning towards them.
VINCE
Dean, put eighteen grand on Lopez
tonight and...
(thinks)
Wait, fuck that, put twenty two
grand on him. That’s twenty-five
hundred for you. You could probably
get a CRV for your daughter with
that.
8.

Dean pulls out a notepad and pen.

DEAN
Alright, lemme write that down.
(pauses to write)
I’ll run the probabilities and let
you know.
VINCE
You better be thorough, Dean. Do
more than convince me.
(to Alex)
Alex, call Tenley and tell her I’m
at a doctor’s appointment. I’ll be
home at around eleven.
Alex raises an eyebrow.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Just fuckin’ do it.
He shuts the door as Alex drives off. Vince heads towards the
car shop.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE’S CAR SHOP - MOMENTS LATER

A bell atop the door JINGLES as Vince enters. BENJI LEWIS
(early 30’s) runs the counter, covered in car oil.
BENJI
Yo, boss. Chino‘s got something for
you.
VINCE
A package? What is it?
BENJI
Nah, some deal shit.
Vince nods and heads towards the back. JAKE CRUZ, a wiry
college student, walks around the corner of an aisle and
grabs Vince's shoulder.
JAKE
Vince! Chino said I could talk to
you.
VINCE
What the fuck are you doing here,
Jake? I gave you what you paid for
last week, didn't I?
9.

JAKE
You did, but look here.
(pulls out money)
One hundred eighty. All in cash.
Count that shit, Vince.
VINCE
It's Mr. Raquis to you.
(starts walking off)
I don't want your goddamn money,
Jake. Wait until next week and find
somebody to talk to.
Jake starts following him.
JAKE
I want my goddamn drugs.
Vince WHIPS around.
VINCE
(dangerous)
You're lucky to be talking to
Chino. You're lucky to be talking
to me. Keep your goddamn mouth shut
or you won't be talking period.
Jake is silent. Vince slides up a large METAL GATE and slips
under.

INT. WAREHOUSE, HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS

Vince walks along the wooden hallway, along a long GLASS
WINDOW. Through the glass is a large open section where
WORKERS are making DRUGS. Vince turns a corner and into--

INT. CHINO'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

The office is clean, well kept. Movie posters line the walls.
CHINO CURUSA (40's) sits at his desk.
Vince smiles as he walks in.
VINCE
Chino, how ya doing?
Chino stands, towering over Vince. They shake hands.
CHINO
I'm doing alright. You hear about
Lyle? I called your bookie to tell
you.
10.

They sit across from each other.

VINCE
Yeah, yeah, that asshole. He
deserved it, didn't he?
CHINO
(nodding)
Greedy son of a bitch. You think he
might rat?
VINCE
(shaking his head)
He loves this job. I bought him a
ring so he could propose to his
girlfriend. Get this, she fuckin'
says no, right? I don't even bother
asking for the money back! You
think he's about to rat on me? Even
if he threatens to, I'll have
Isaiah stick him in a box and drown
him.
CHINO
Thank God for people like Isaiah.
VINCE
Thank God for people like you,
you've helped me out a lot.
CHINO
I try to earn what you pay my sorry
ass.
VINCE
Six digits ain't gonna come easily
anywhere else.
CHINO
Six digits, huh? How does eight
sound to you?
Vince leans in, grinning.
VINCE
I like talking to you, Chino. First
we were just saying bullshit, but
now you're getting to the good
stuff. Go ahead, get it out.
CHINO
So you know Eli Vedder? Jewish
motherfucker?
11.
CHINO (CONT'D)
He runs a couple tequila joints in
a bunch of towns around here.
VINCE
Yeah, I know him. There's a lot
more money in marijuana than
alcohol. Does he wanna fuckin'
trade?
CHINO
No, no, he's running those joints,
right? Gets decent money from the
slums, sells to college kids, all
that shit. Anyway, he figures out
there's some big name hip hop guy
coming to town where he's got a
bunch of stores. So he calls me and
he asks about our weed supply.
VINCE
That's not a bad idea. How much is
he offering for us?
Chino nods.
CHINO
Says he'll do twelve million, for
whatever that buys.
VINCE
Holy shit. He's outta his goddamn
mind.
CHINO
He says he'll pick it up with his
guys tomorrow afternoon.
VINCE
He's gonna take all of our goddamn
stash! There's money in that,
Chino...
CHINO
We don't need to worry about that.
I’ve got the deal secured. We're
gonna have twelve million at our
leisure. I know what you and Isaiah
have been talking about.
VINCE
(smiling)
We can use that money for cocaine.
That's where the big money's at.
12.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Weed's fuckin' legal, nobody wants
that shit anymore.
CHINO
Exactly. We're on to something
here, Vince.
Vince nods, looking at the ground.
VINCE
You need to tell me beforehand. I
know it's a good deal, but I can't
go in blind.
CHINO
I thought you liked the sound of
twelve million.
Beat. Vince looks up.
VINCE
(smiling)
You’re goddamn right.
CUT TO:

INT. LAND ROVER - LATER

Vince sits in the back seat, smoking a cigarette while Alex
drives. He checks his ROLEX.
VINCE
Jesus, it’s fucking one-thirty.
ALEX
Got something in the morning?
VINCE
Afternoon. Some Jew wants to buy
our stock.
ALEX
Leave some for me.
(laughs)
The hell am I supposed to smoke?
VINCE
There’s gonna be some leftovers,
don’t worry. When have I ever let
you down?
13.

ALEX
I’m not complaining, but like you
said, it’s one-thirty in the
morning.
Vince pulls out a HUNDRED bill.
VINCE
Here you go.
(hands it to him)
I love you, buddy.
ALEX
I appreciate it.
VINCE
Think of it as overtime for ya.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE’S HOUSE, LIVING ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Vince steps through the doorway and takes off him shoes. The
white walls showcase expensive paintings and decorative
furniture.
TENLEY (O.S.)
Vince?
Vince walks towards her voice.
VINCE
Honey?
He turns into the kitchen, where his wife TENLEY (late 20’s)
stands, sipping a glass of WHISKEY with the bottle alongside
her on the countertop.
TENLEY
It’s so late, baby. You need to
come home earlier, I missed you.
VINCE
I know, I know, there was something
I had to check up on.
TENLEY
(holding out her arms)
Come over and kiss me.
She wobbles slightly as they embrace and kiss.
14.

VINCE
Is that Jack Daniels?
TENLEY
(nodding)
Just me and him till you got home.
Do you want some?
VINCE
No, let‘s just go to bed.
TENLEY
Kiss me again.
He does.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE’S CAR SHOP - THE NEXT MORNING

The bell JINGLES as Vince enters. Benji is talking with three
suited men. WARREN LOWE (50’s), loan shark, stands with his
assistants.
VINCE
Warren! Good to see you, buddy!
Warren smiles a little, but then looks stern.
WARREN
Tony here told me you’ve got some
deal with Eli Vedder.
The bodyguards turn towards Vince.
VINCE
I was just about to bring that up.
It’s a good deal, I assure you.
WARREN
(annoyed)
Give me the facts, Vince. I put my
money on you, that’s all I’m asking
for.
VINCE
You want your investment to pay
off, Warren, you don’t give a shit
about me.
15.

WARREN
There’s the facts for you. My turn
for the facts, tell me what deal
you made.
VINCE
Chino was the guy who instigated
it! Vedder offered it and Chino
didn‘t bother to consult me. That’s
not my fault! If I’d known you
cared so much I’d have thought it
through more.
WARREN
(building)
Of course I‘m gonna care! It’s not
just your business I’m fed up with,
it’s your handling of my money! Ten
percent, Vince! Ten percent is what
you promised in two years. You’re
less than half that.
The bodyguards SHIFT forward.
VINCE
That was ambition talking. Listen
to me, Warren, we’re expanding.
I’ve got men moving our stocks up
to Los Angeles. I know that nobody
cares about Vegas anymore, there
hasn’t been a fuckin’ DeNiro movie
there since the nineties. You know
as well as me, the bigger the city,
the bigger the enterprise.
WARREN
Where’s my ten percent, Vince?
Vince holds up his hands in defense.
VINCE
Here's the facts. Twelve million
dollars. That’s the deal. Vedder
says he’ll take what he can get for
it.
WARREN
I expect one point eight million
dollars in my hand by tomorrow. You
can’t keep throwing my money away
like this.
16.

VINCE
Hey, hey, hey, I’m a businessman,
you’re... kind of a businessman. We
can understand each other, alright?
TONY (40’s) the bodyguard on the left speaks up.
TONY
(pissed)
I’ll pop your fuckin’ head off, you
understand that?
VINCE
Ah, shut the fuck up, Tony.
Tony LUNGES towards Vince, but Warren holds him back.
WARREN
Enough!
(To Vince, points)
Tomorrow, motherfucker. I’m done
giving you chances.
Vince smiles, unfazed. They start walking out.
VINCE
I don’t need anymore chances, I
promise you.
Tony gives Vince a dirty look. The bell rings atop the door
as they exit, Vince watching them from afar.
CUT TO:

EXT. RESTAURANT, BACK LOT - AFTERNOON

Vince sits on a staircase coming down from the warehouse,
surrounded by some workers, Chino, and ISAIAH YATES (20’s).
Three SUVS drive up, clinking gravel. A bunch of men hop out,
informally dressed.
ELI VEDDER (40’s), wearing a Hawaiian shirt, steps out and
walks up to Vince.
VEDDER
Are you Chino?
VINCE
(shaking his head)
Vince.
17.

VEDDER
(looking around)
Which one here is Chino?
VINCE
You should be talking to me.
VEDDER
You the head of this joint?
VINCE
You’d better believe it. You got
something for me?
VEDDER
Only if you’ve got what I want.
Vince smirks slightly. He SNAPS his fingers, and a couple men
bring forward multiple boxes.
VEDDER (CONT'D)
That’s what I like to see.
He beckons, and a couple men bring suitcases forwards.
Vince’s men take them from Vedder’s.
VINCE
Open them up.
They do so, revealing stack of CASH. Vince stares, entranced,
smiling.
VINCE (CONT'D)
(to Vedder)
This is what I'm talking about.
(to his men)
Load it up! Spread it between our
cars.
Vince's men begin to do so.
VEDDER
I knew you were the right man to
come to.
Vince smiles.
VINCE
Nobody in this joint does it better
than me.
SIRENS sound around the corner of the road, coming CLOSER.
Vince pulls a GUN out of his pocket, pointing at Vedder.
18.

VINCE (CONT'D)
You set me up, fucker!
Vedder throws his hands into the air, terrified.
VEDDER
(confused, scared)
What? No! I promise!
Vince turns to his men.
VINCE
Get the money secured! Get outta
here! Go!
POLICE CARS begin to enter the lot, blocking the road exit.
Vince sheaths the gun and begins SPRINTING into the
restaurant, followed by a mix of his men and Vedder's.

INT. RESTAURANT, KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS

Vince BURSTS into the kitchen. Chefs YELL as he pushes past
them, knocking over dishes and silverware. The other men
proceed similarly in their desperate rush to escape.
Vince SHOVES through the door and into--

INT. RESTAURANT, DINING ROOM - CONTINUOUS

People JUMP and SCREAM as Vince runs past, followed by men.
He pauses momentarily as through the glass, a COP CAR pulls
up. He keeps running, pushing through the glass door.

EXT. RESTAURANT, SIDEWALK - CONTINUOUS

Police get out of the vehicle, aiming their guns at Vince as
he turns and runs down the street. They begin to chase him,
but a long BLACK SUV pulls up.
ISAIAH
Vince! Get in!
CUT TO:

INT. BLACK SUV - MOMENTS LATER

Vince sits in the back seat, defeated. Isaiah and Chino sit
in the passenger and driver seats.
Vince SITS UP quickly--
19.

VINCE
What the fuck?! What was that?!
Chino, who the hell do you think
you are?
CHINO ISAIAH
(pissed) I put him on it, Vince! I got
Wait a goddamn minute! This the call from Vedder's guy
ain't my fault. about the deal.
Vince eyes Isaiah.
VINCE
What the hell did he say?
ISAIAH
Exactly what we'd planned! Jesus,
this isn't on our side!
VINCE
Look at Lyle! Of course it could be
on our side! You got called, didn't
you?
ISAIAH
(dangerous)
Are you saying it's me?
Vince throws his hands up, stressed out.
VINCE
No, I'm saying we've grown too much
that somebody in our group could be
getting paid off!
CHINO
It's the fuckin' Jew bastard!
Jesus, Vince, you really think it's
one of your own guys?
VINCE
Who called you, Isaiah?
ISAIAH
How am I supposed to know? He
didn't give his name! He said it
was confidential, between us.
VINCE
Well it didn't stay that way!
Chino SLAMS on the brakes as a COP CAR blocks the road up
ahead.
20.

CHINO
God damn it!
He REVERSES the car. Vince and Isaiah hold on for dear life.
ISAIAH
Head to the I-59. Get us the fuck
out of here.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE’S HOUSE, BEDROOM - LATER

Vince paces in his expensive-looking bedroom, holding a phone
on DIAL. A boxing match plays in the background. A CLICK on
the phone sounds--
MAN (O.S.)
Hello?
VINCE
Junior?
The man sighs.
MAN (O.S.)
I know what you're going to say,
Vince. Listen--
VINCE
Why'd you put your men on my deal?
What the hell do I pay you for?
MAN (O.S.)
(pissed)
You think I set you up? You're
talking crazy. You put twelve
million dollars of the line, you
gotta expect some of it to be gone
along the way.
VINCE
What the hell are you talking
about?
MAN (O.S.)
I can't help it if there's decent
cops in my ranks. You gotta pay the
rest of them too if you want that
security.
21.

VINCE
Yeah, why didn't you just take the
twelve million and add it onto
their paychecks?
MAN (O.S.)
I told you, Vince. I have nothing
against you. You know what I
fuckin' make, you think that's
enough for three children?
VINCE
No, but twelve million definitely
is.
MAN
You need to watch what you say to
me.
VINCE
Listen, one more close call like
this and you won't get a nickel for
your kids' birthday presents.
He HANGS UP defiantly and turns to watch the boxing match. A
dark-skinned boxer, LOPEZ, gets multiple hits on his
opponent.
Vince starts AIR BOXING, locked in--
VINCE (CONT'D)
Work your magic, baby, come on.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE'S OFFICE - THE NEXT MORNING

Vince paces in his office, on the phone. Chino sits across
from him, pissed off.
VINCE
(into phone)
I'm not being pretentious! I've got
twelve million dollars here! Why
would I lie to you with that
number? Be reasonable here!
He nods to the inaudible caller.
VINCE (CONT'D)
(into phone)
Okay, dammit.
22.

He sets the phone down.

CHINO
(annoyed)
You done with your bullshit?
VINCE
That was Fonso! I told him we've
got the twelve million from Vedder.
CHINO
Yeah, I know, I was sitting right
here if you didn't notice.
VINCE
Do you want twelve million in
cocaine or not?
CHINO
We can't buy twelve million in
cocaine, Vince. We lost two of the
briefcases when the cops came.
Vince PACES, stressed.
VINCE
How many do we have?
CHINO
Eight. Out of ten.
VINCE
(beat, does the math)
Where did the two point four
million go?
Chino shrugs.
CHINO
It's either still there,
confiscated, or Vedder's got it.
Vince turns to look at him.
VINCE
He's gotta have it. I know he does.
He thinks he can steal an extra two
million from me.
CHINO
(shaking his head)
He was booking it out of there. Why
would he risk himself in the
ordeal?
23.

VINCE
Wouldn't you risk your ass for two
million?
Chino shrugs, agreeing.
VINCE (CONT'D)
We're at nine point six million
right now, minus what Warren is
expecting from me.
CHINO
That's like four million dollars
short of the deal you're making,
Vince!
Vince picks up the phone again, dialing rapidly.
CHINO (CONT'D)
What are you doing?
VINCE
Calling Isaiah. I'm finding out
what he knows.
CHINO
I talked with him, he doesn't have
the money.
Vince WHIPS around.
VINCE
How can I fucking trust who you
talk to?
Chino stands, antagonized.
CHINO
How dare you say that to me...
A CLICK from the phone as Isaiah answers--
ISAIAH (O.S.)
Hello?
Vince holds a finger up towards Chino and backs away slowly,
looking down at the ground.
VINCE
Hello? Isaiah?
Chino pauses angrily, GLARING.
24.

ISAIAH (O.S.)
Vince? What is it?
VINCE
I wanna know where the briefcases
are.
ISAIAH (O.S.)
We've got them at the safe house
downtown. Under that liquor store.
We lost two of 'em when the cops
showed up.
VINCE
Yeah, do you know what happened to
them?

CHINO ISAIAH (O.S.)

Nothing fucking happened to No, I was trying to get out
them! of there, same as you.
Vince looks at Chino.
VINCE
Give me a second!
(into phone)
Listen, I need you to go back over
there and see if there's briefcases
left. Maybe they got dropped
somewhere, I dunno, but figure it
out for me.
ISAIAH (O.S.)
(sighs)
Alright, but you better not get me
arrested.
VINCE
You won't, don't worry, you're the
best guy I've got.
He hangs up and turns to Chino.
CHINO
(angry)
What the fuck was that supposed to
mean?
VINCE
(confused)
I called him to get the briefcases.
What are you, deaf?
25.

CHINO
No, dammit, you said you can't
trust me.
VINCE
Listen, Chino. All I know is
somebody called you behind my back
and you made a deal for me.
CHINO
You said it was a good idea!
VINCE
Yeah, after you completed it
already!
CHINO
I didn't think the goddamn cops
would show up!
VINCE
You never think! That's my problem!
Somebody gets a fishing rod,
dangles a quarter million in front
of your face and you snatch it up!
You're impulsive!
Chino looks at him in fury. Vince NOTICES something...
Behind Chino, WARREN, TONY, and two other men are walking
towards the office.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Fuckin' hell.
He walks up and opens the door for them. Only Warren enters.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Warren! How're you doing?
WARREN
(not messing around)
You got the money?
A very slim pause before Vince replies.
VINCE
Yeah, he gave it to me yesterday.
Twelve million dollars in cash.
WARREN
Let me see it.
26.

VINCE
Easy, I've got it stored in one of
my safe houses.
WARREN
Where is it?
VINCE
I can't tell ya. Then it wouldn't
be a safe house.
Warren is not amused. Vince goes to his desk and sits down.
Warren eyes Chino.
WARREN
(to Vince)
This one of your business guys?
VINCE
No, that's Chino. Works for me.
Head honcho if I wasn't here.
WARREN
(annoyed)
So what the fuck am I doing here if
you don't have anything for me?
VINCE
Do you know Christian Torreon?
WARREN
Answer my goddamn question! What
the hell am I doing here?
VINCE
This is important, you're gonna
wanna hear this. So Christian
Torreon, he's a big cartel guy,
he's got millions coming his way
through cocaine, fentanyl, all that
shit. Anyways, I've offered him the
ten million for a huge income of
cocaine. That big shot coming to
town? Throws fuckin' ragers, people
are gonna be all over what we got
here.
WARREN
Ten million? What happened to
twelve?
Vince smiles and puts his hand on Warren's shoulder, who
slaps it off harshly.
27.

VINCE
That goes to you, my friend.
However...
(paces)
If you decide to forfeit that--
WARREN
(interrupting)
I'm not forfeiting anything!
VINCE
(raises hand)
Hey, hey, hey, listen to me. If you
decide to lend me your share that I
owe you, we're gonna increase our
stock by nearly twenty percent.
We're obviously gonna move the
prices up, so then we've got...
fifteen million dollars in total.
WARREN
That's assuming somebody would want
to buy from you, which is not a
guarantee. What's guaranteed is my
money in your warehouse right now.
Vince eyes Chino for a second, who glares.
VINCE
I'll get it to you, I promise.
However, once this deal is complete
and we manage to sell what we've
got, you're gonna look pretty
stupid when we're raking in an
extra three million. You've be
making about...
(thinks)
two point five million dollars if
you lend it to me now. You can buy
your wife a Bentley, fuckin' buy
yourself a Bentley, hell, save the
goddamn snowy egret while you're at
it.
Warren nods a little, slightly convinced.
WARREN
If you don't sell enough to at
least pay me off, you're a dead
man. I swear to God, this is your
last chance.
28.

VINCE
Don't worry, I understand
perfectly. You'll get your money in
no time.
Warren begins walking out.
WARREN
Not a lot of men get trusted with
my money, Vince.
VINCE
Believe me, I know that. This is a
good thing we've got going here.
WARREN
Just get me the results you
promised me. I'm being generous
with the results you gave me last
time.
Vince smiles.
VINCE
These results will blow your mind,
Warren. You're gonna be shaking my
hand saying you wished you never
doubted me.
Warren, annoyed, walks out the door. Tony gives Vince an
angry look. Vince watches, then turns to Chino.
VINCE (CONT'D)
God, I hate that guy.
CHINO
Warren, or his buddies?
VINCE
Tony. The black guy. He hates my
fuckin' guts.
CHINO
You know me, Vince. You know you
can trust me.
VINCE
(turns to him)
You're still on about that?
(chuckles)
Chino, I was mad about the
briefcases, it's nothing about you.
I'm glad I've got you here, you're
not going anywhere.
29.

Chino still looks angry, then finally breaks, smiling.

CHINO
I knew it, you motherfucker.
They pat each other's backs as Vince turns to leave.
CHINO (CONT'D)
Where the hell you going?
VINCE
I gotta meet with Dean.
CHINO
He's not good for you, Vince. His
commission rates are ridiculous.
VINCE
He makes me money, so why would I
give a shit?
He walks out the door.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE’S CAR SHOP - MOMENTS LATER

Benji stands at the front desk.
VINCE
Benji, tell Stefan that I'm getting
his stock.
BENJI
I need a confirmation, Vince. He's
expecting it in three days.
VINCE
Well, tell him he's gonna get it in
two. Tell him that's how I roll.
Vince walks out the door. The door bell CHIMES.
CUT TO:

INT. LAND ROVER - MOMENTS LATER

Alex smokes a joint while driving. Vince is silent in the
back seat.
ALEX
You alright?
30.

Vince sighs deeply.

VINCE
I'm okay. Fuckin' stressed is all.
ALEX
You want a joint? I got like six up
here.
VINCE
Hell no. I never take my own stuff.
ALEX
Why not? You've got endless amounts
of it.
VINCE
Cause then I'd just take it all
myself. How many guys you think
I've laid off because they were
doing smoking during production?
ALEX
A lot, probably.
VINCE
Exactly, that's why I don't do it.
ALEX
You want some of the hard stuff?
He reaches into his glove box and pulls out a small baggie of
COCAINE.
VINCE
Where'd you get that shit?
ALEX
It was Chino. I drove him last
Friday and he just had it on him.
Where do you think your tips have
been going?
VINCE
(confused)
You're driving Chino, too?
ALEX
Uh huh. Mostly on Fridays.
VINCE
When did you start that?
31.

ALEX
Last month. He figured out you were
driven by me and thought he might
as well.
Vince nods, looking out the window.
CUT TO:

EXT. DEAN'S HOUSE, SIDEWALK - LATER

Vince steps out of the Land Rover and starts walking up the
lawn of Dean's quaint, middle-class home.
DEAN (V.O.)
So Lopez won on a T.K.O., that
means we've got ten grand on that
probability.

INT. DEAN'S HOUSE, LIVING ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Very white and brightly lit, Dean and Vince sit across from
each other in the living room.
VINCE
So I've got an assorted, what?
Twenty-five grand?
DEAN
(nodding)
Yes, and my commission runs up to
around thirty-five hundred.
VINCE
(smiling)
I told you it would pay off.
DEAN
It did. I guess I did my research
enough, huh?
VINCE
Sorry I doubted you.
DEAN
Sure. Anyways, can you take an
extra grand for my commission?
VINCE
(confused)
You're getting plenty. What the
hell do you need extra for?
32.

DEAN
Family vacation. We're headed to
Switzerland.
VINCE
(taken aback)
Are you kidding me? I'm not paying
for your goddamn vacation. You're
here to help me win money and you
got your dues. I don't owe you
shit.
DEAN
I checked that six thousand you
lost two nights ago. What's another
thousand dollars to you?
VINCE
It means a whole lot, actually.
DEAN
I'm increasing my commission rates
then. Give me my extra thousand,
Vince.
VINCE
(angry)
I think we're done here.
He stands and walks down the hall.
DEAN
You son of a bitch!
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE’S HOUSE, KITCHEN - EVENING

Vince takes a long sip of JACK DANIELS. Tenley smiles at him
sweetly.
TENLEY
Does that help?
VINCE
(nods, sighing)
I've missed you. I've been so
stressed with work and everything.
She extends her arms, and he enters them in an embrace.
33.

TENLEY
(closing her eyes)
I know, sweetie. I'm sorry.
VINCE
It's alright. I'm about to get us
out of here. We're gonna have so
much money, babe.
TENLEY
I'm fine with where we are. I love
it here.
VINCE
I'm stressed here. I need more
space to think.
She takes a deep breath, still holding him.
TENLEY
You'd be stressed with all the
space in the world.
He breaks out of the hug and kisses her.
CUT TO:

INT. ELI VEDDER'S HOUSE, LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Eli sits on his couch, watching the news. A BANG from the
other room. He gets up fast and walks--

INT. ELI VEDDER'S HOUSE, DINING ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Eli looks around, confused. The glass window of the dining
room SHATTERS, broken down by a HOODED FIGURE who enters,
brandishing a PISTOL. It's Isaiah in a mask.
Eli throws his hands up.
ISAIAH
Get on the fucking ground!
Eli does so. Isaiah points the gun at his head, the barrel to
nose.
ISAIAH (CONT'D)
Where's the goddamn briefcases!
ELI
(stammering)
W-What?
34.

ISAIAH
Vince Raquis! Don't bullshit me,
asshole!
ELI
(stammering)
I didn't do nothing with the
briefcases!
ISAIAH
Why'd the fuckin' cops come? Who'd
you call?!
ELI
I didn't call nobody! Someone
must've tipped them off!
ISAIAH
(cocks the gun)
Alright, asshole. If I find out you
set us up, I'm blowing your fucking
brains out, you hear me?
Eli sobs, spluttering. Isaiah SLAMS his head down hard,
dazing him.
Isaiah gets up, leaving the sobbing Eli behind.
CUT TO:

INT. SUBURBAN - THE NEXT DAY

Vince and Isaiah sit in the backseat. Chino drives, LEX (30)
sits in the front seat.
VINCE
Chino, you talked to this guy at
all, yet?
CHINO
No, his guy just contacted me.
Fonso.
VINCE
Same, that's all I've gotten.
Torreon doesn't like people.
LEX
So how the hell does he do deals?
VINCE
He's an in-person type of guy. From
what I've heard.
35.

ISAIAH
He'd better love that ten million.
CUT TO:

EXT. TORREON'S HIDEOUT, LOT - LATER

A building the size of a small hotel. Numerous black cars
line the lot, with armed Hispanic men waiting outside.
SUPER: Mexico
Vince's suburban pulls up, and then men get out. Vince walks
over, where a thinly mustached man greets him: FONSO (28,
Hispanic)
FONSO
Glad you could make it.
Vince smiles and shakes his hand.
VINCE
Let's hope it was worth the drive.
Could've watched the Irishman
twice.
Fonso doesn't get it. He shakes the three other men's hands
and begins to lead them into the building.
CUT TO:

INT. TORREON'S HIDEOUT, LARGE ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Darkly lit, the men are escorted into a large open room
almost like a casino, with pool tables and a bar. Many men
surround the tables and eye the incomers.
FONSO
(Spanish, subbed)
Christian, this is Vince Raquis,
the cocaine dealer.
Fonso moves aside to reveal CHRISTIAN TORREON (40's, mean,
Hispanic, dark hair) mob boss.
TORREON
(Spanish, subbed)
Welcome to my business, Mr. Raquis.
He extends his hand, and Vince shakes it. Vince smiles,
unsure of what to say.
36.

VINCE
Thank you, Mr. Torreon.
(to Fonso)
Could you help me out, here? I
haven't taken Spanish since high
school.
Fonso nods, smiling widely.
FONSO
He says welcome to his business.
VINCE
(nodding)
Thank you, sir. I'm glad we could
get this worked out.
Christian nods, but Fonso translates in Spanish anyway.
TORREON
(English)
Would you like a cocktail?
Vince looks confused, then breaks into a smile.
VINCE
Sure. As long as it's on the house.
TORREON
(smiles)
I'll exchange it for ten million
dollars.
CUT TO:

INT. TORREON'S HIDEOUT, LARGE ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Vince and Torreon sit across from each other sipping
cocktails, their men accordingly seated around them.
Vince looks around.
VINCE
You like to gamble?
TORREON
(nodding)
I own a couple casinos around here.
I don't let myself lose.
He grins widely.
37.

VINCE
I can't win for shit. Doesn't
matter what table I sit at.
TORREON
It's not the table, it's the cards.
Decide your bet upon the deal, not
by intuition.
VINCE
I always trust my intuition. That's
what led me here to you.
TORREON
Fonso called you?
Vince nods, taking a long sip from his cocktail.
VINCE
He said you're the best in the
business. I figured you could teach
me a thing or two while I'm at it.
TORREON
Expansion is the key to thriving.
You never remain in the same place
you started in.
VINCE
That's what I've started to do. I'm
moving my stocks to L.A., buying
out warehouses and private
farmlands... efficiency is key as I
like to say.
TORREON
Very good.
He beckons to the man next to him. LOUIS TORREON (20's, very
similar to Christian)
TORREON (CONT'D)
Have you met my son, Louis?
Vince extends his hand. Louis doesn't take it.
VINCE
Uh... it's a pleasure...
He pulls his hand back, embarrassed slightly.
38.

TORREON
(to the point)
I brought my shipments in. Do you
have your end?
VINCE
There's ten million in cash waiting
for you outside. Shall we take a
walk?
Torreon smiles slightly and STANDS. The two men walk as their
respective groups follow.
CUT TO:

EXT. TORREON'S HIDEOUT, LOT - MOMENTS LATER

The group walks towards Vince's suburban.
VINCE
Isaiah, get the briefcases.
They exchange a barely noticeable glance of fear, until
Isaiah snaps his fingers.
ISAIAH
Lex, open the back.
Lex does so. Inside the back of the suburban are eight silver
briefcases, the ones from the deal with Vedder.
VINCE
(to Torreon)
There you go.
TORREON
Count it up for me.
VINCE
(slightly nervous)
What, you don't believe me?
TORREON
Like you said, efficiency is key.
(beckons)
Open it up. I need to ensure your
part of the deal.
Vince snaps his fingers. The briefcases are OPENED, revealing
piles of cash inside.
Torreon smiles.
39.

VINCE
Anything else you need to check?
TORREON
(shakes his head, bites
his CIGAR)
I think we're all set here.
Torreon beckons to his men, who bring forward two large
CRATES, filled with large bricks.
Vince puts out a small pocketknife and SLASHES a brick open,
spilling white powder onto the ground. He turns to Torreon,
smiling.
VINCE
I think we're all set here.
They SHAKE HANDS.
CUT TO:

EXT. WAREHOUSE, BACK LOT - EVENING

The suburban is being UNLOADED. Vince smokes a cigarette as
Isaiah comes up to him.
ISAIAH
How much does four hundred thousand
mean to this guy?
VINCE
It doesn't matter. It's close
enough, don't you think?
ISAIAH
(shrugs)
Let's hope he's either prideful
enough to leave it or too stupid to
count it up.
VINCE
Give me a week and I'll have sold
twenty bricks of this shit. I guess
we've got twenty thousand a brick.
ISAIAH
You still need to pay me, might I
remind you.
Vince turns, smiling and biting his cigarette.
40.

VINCE
Don't worry about it, you'll get
your dues. Don't think I'd
forgotten about you.
He pulls out five HUNDREDS, slapping them into Isaiah's open
hand.
ISAIAH
I appreciate it.
VINCE
I think Eli lied to you.
Beat.
ISAIAH
He was crying like a fuckin' baby,
you think he'd wanna lie to me?
VINCE
I dunno, two million doesn't just
disappear like that. If anything,
I'm betting he had it in his house
while you were there.
ISAIAH
I almost feel bad for the guy.
Vince whips around, aggravated.
VINCE
He took two million dollars,
Isaiah. Christ, the guy was crazy
enough to call the cops on his own
deal, you think he wouldn't lie to
you?
ISAIAH
(backing up a little)
I didn't make the deal, Vince.
VINCE
You're right. I already talked with
Chino. This shit will not happen
again.
Some MURMURS from the men loading the crates.
VINCE (CONT'D)
(to men)
What the fuck is going on over
there?!
41.

A HENCHMAN walks over, sweating.

HENCHMAN
This ain't cocaine, sir.
Beat. Vince STARES, pissed.
VINCE
Well what the hell is it?
HENCHMAN
I think it's heroin.
Vince storms over to the crates. He sticks his finger into
the powder and tastes it.
VINCE
God dammit!

CUT TO:

INT. VINCE'S OFFICE - MOMENTS LATER

Vince and Chino stand at opposite ends.
VINCE
(livid)
What the hell did Fonso tell you?!
CHINO
(stressed)
Jesus Christ, Vince...
VINCE
Answer me, God dammit!
CHINO
What the hell do you want to hear?
That I betrayed you? You think I
wanted this to happen? You think I
wanted that asshole to sell us out?
VINCE
I don't know what to think! You
were my best guy! You're making me
look like a fuckin' moron! I'm
losing millions, Chino!
CHINO
You initiated this deal, Vince.
This one ain't on me.
42.

VINCE
Yes, but you...
(points)
You were the one with the phone. I
barely talked to Fonso.
Isaiah walks in timidly behind them as they argue.
CHINO
I can't do this anymore, Vince. Not
if you're gonna blame me after
anything goes wrong.
He walks out, giving a side eye to Isaiah as Vince SLAMS his
hand onto his desk.
ISAIAH
(nervous)
Now might not be the time...
Vince looks up, angry.
VINCE
Give me some good fucking news for
once.
ISAIAH
(sighing deeply)
I don't know about news, but I've
got an idea.
VINCE
Say it. I don't care anymore.
ISAIAH
We get the money back. We know that
asshole has a storage warehouse in
Reno, so if we go with some men and
take it by force...
VINCE
(cutting him off)
Listen to yourself! You're more
desperate than I am! Torreon's got
hundreds of men. We've got under a
hundred across the entire fucking
city! I've lost twelve million in
two days, I'm not losing everything
I've built.
ISAIAH
If we can catch him off guard, we
could double our resources.
43.

VINCE
He's expecting that! He just
scammed us! Of course we're gonna
retaliate!
ISAIAH
You're just gonna let him screw us
over?
Vince slumps into his chair.
VINCE
I don't know what the hell to do.
What we have won't equate to what
we lost. I could probably get...
five million for the entire supply
of heroin.
ISAIAH
How much cocaine do we have to
sell?
VINCE
Nothing, Isaiah! I only advertised
us because I assumed we'd have ten
million dollars of it!
ISAIAH
Well that was pretty fuckin'
stupid.
VINCE
(pissed)
Shut the fuck up.
ISAIAH
I'm telling you what you need to
hear, Vince! You can't make deals
with money you don't have! As soon
as something goes wrong,
everybody's gonna be up your ass.
VINCE
I know that! There's a goddamn
movie star who was gonna buy sixty
thousand dollars worth! What am I
supposed to tell him?
ISAIAH
You think he's gonna know the
different between cocaine and
heroin?
44.

VINCE
Is there any cocaine in the crate
he gave us?
Isaiah looks grim.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Alright, I'll see if he's stupid
enough to take heroin.
CUT TO:

INT. MOVIE STAR'S HOUSE, DOORWAY - THE NEXT DAY

A giant mansion, high ceiling, expensive furniture. Vince
walks in with Isaiah and a couple other men.
STEFAN JOHNSON (30's, cocky) walks down a large flight of
stairs.
STEFAN
Vince! You got my powder?
VINCE
(smiling)
Yes, Mr. Johnson.
He beckons, and Isaiah brings a small crate forward.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Sixty thousand dollars worth of
cocaine.
Isaiah opens the crate, where inside are a couple bricks of
HEROIN.
Stefan stares at the drugs, entranced.
STEFAN
(grinning widely)
Hell yeah. Sixty grand, you said?
VINCE
In cash as promised.
Stefan pulls out a stack of CASH from his pocket, flipping
through it intently.
He finishes counting and hands the money to Vince.
STEFAN
There you are, sixty thousand in
cash.
45.

VINCE
(smiling)
Thank you, Mr. Johnson.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE’S CAR SHOP - LATER

Benji stands across the glass counter, polishing a silver
hubcap. Vince talks with Jake.
JAKE
Chino won’t answer my calls, Vince!
VINCE
Of course he won’t, he doesn’t work
here anymore. I don’t have time for
this.
JAKE
I worked ten hours yesterday!
(pulls out money)
Two hundred twenty bucks! What does
that get me?
VINCE
Ten fuckin' hours? You’re in
college! You’re supposed to be
doing college shit, not working ten
hours a day!
JAKE
Where else do I buy quality weed?
Liquor stores? That Mexican
knockoff shit‘s gonna kill me!
VINCE
You’re gonna kill yourself at this
rate, Jake! I can’t sell you
anymore shit!
Jake PUSHES Vince, distressed.
JAKE
You think I can’t handle this
stuff? Chino sold me cocaine last
week! I can handle what I buy or
else I wouldn’t buy it!
Vince starts at him, angry, but realizes he’s not worth it.
46.

VINCE
Fine, give me the money.
(Jake does)
I’ll get you your goddamn weed.
Vince turns and walks towards the back, sliding up the silver
gate.
CUT TO:

INT. WAREHOUSE, HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS

Vince STORMS down the hall, into--

INT. VINCE'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

Vince searches through his desk, thrusting papers aside. He
pulls out a bag of WEED, storming back out.

INT. VINCE’S CAR SHOP - SECONDS LATER

The gate slides up, out pops Vince. He looks up, where WARREN
and his men are standing, looking angry.
VINCE
(to himself)
God dammit.
He THROWS the weed bag into Jake’s arms, turning to Warren,
extending his hand. Warren doesn’t take it.
VINCE (CONT'D)
How you doing, Warren?
Warren is LIVID.
WARREN
One point eight million fucking
dollars, Vince!
VINCE
I know you’re mad, Warren! You know
that guy Chino? He made a shitty
deal!
WARREN
How do I know you’re not lying to
me again?
47.

VINCE
I never lied to you! I told you,
this deal was gonna benefit the
both of us! Chino got played! I
kicked his ass out!
WARREN
No, you got played. I said this was
your last chance, Vince.
He beckons, and TONY steps forward. Vince points towards them
in defense, backing up slightly.
VINCE
You ain’t gonna touch me,
motherfucker. I got something for
you, Warren.
He turns around and starts walking to the back of the shop to
the gate. Warren starts walking after him.
WARREN
Vince! Get back here!
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE'S OFFICE - MOMENTS LATER

Vince goes back to the desk and pulls out the SIXTY GRAND
that Stefan paid him with. He scrambles around some more and
grabs more money as he looks up to see WARREN and TONY
walking towards him.
Vince, holding the money, meets them at the door.
WARREN
You’re outta chances, Vince.
Vince holds up the money. Warren takes it, still looking at
him.
VINCE
Ninety grand right there. All out
of my pocket. You think I’m fucking
broke?
WARREN
Congratulations, you still owe me
one point seven million dollars,
asshole!
48.

VINCE
Expansion, Warren! This shit takes
time! You can’t come to my shop two
days after I make a deal and expect
seven digits to be ready for you!
TONY
(stepping forward)
Give it up, bitch!
WARREN
I’m expecting that because that’s
what you promised me!
VINCE
I’ve got the goddamn cocaine! I’ve
got the goddamn resources! Time,
Warren! That’s all I need!
WARREN
That’s a fucking lie!
VINCE
(nervous)
What the hell are you talking
about?
WARREN
Chino called me this morning! He
told me you got scammed!
VINCE
No I didn’t! Heroin is a similar
value to cocaine! It’ll only
stiffen prices slightly. You’re
gonna get your money, Warren!
Again, all I need is time.
Warren looks at Tony.
TONY
Don’t fucking trust this piece of
shit.
Vince pulls out a GUN, pointing it at Tony.
VINCE
Fuck you!
Warren is TERRIFIED. No longer the tough guy from seconds
ago.
WARREN
Vince! Stop! Put the gun down!
49.

Tony backs up, angry.

VINCE
(to Tony)
Talk to me again, bitch. See what
happens. I’ll blow your goddamn
brains out.
WARREN
Vince!
VINCE
Give me a month, Warren! If I see
you again before then, I’m gonna
kill you!
Warren backs up slowly. Tony GLARES as they walk down the
hall.
Vince stands, gun at his side.
CUT TO:

INT. TORREON'S HIDEOUT, LARGE ROOM - NIGHT

Christian Torreón and his son Louis play POOL. Louis shoots,
terribly.
All dialogue is in SPANISH, subbed.
TORREON
What the hell are you doing?
LOUIS
My goddamn stick is bent.
TORREON
No, it’s not. Your stupid arm is
bent.
LOUIS
Whatever.
(beat. Torreón hits the
white ball)
Do you think he’ll retaliate?
TORREON
That weed dealer?
(Louis nods)
I plan on it.
LOUIS
Why couldn’t you just kill him?
50.

TORREON
It takes more mercy to spare and
steal than to kill. It leaves the
soul broken, not just the body.
Louis hits the white ball, which rolls into a slot. Louis
SNAPS the pool stick over his knee.
LOUIS
Shit!
He throws the pieces off to the side with a clatter.
TORREON
Calm down.
LOUIS
I’m sick of this stupid game.
TORREON
If you want to inherit my empire,
you need to show rationality.
LOUIS
This is a pool game, not your
fortune. I’m not going to throw
that away.
TORREON
You’re always so angry, Louis. Be
happy for once. We just got ten
million dollars. Revel in it.
LOUIS
(shaking his head)
We got less. One of the briefcases
was missing four hundred thousand.
TORREON
It doesn’t matter. Our empire will
grow with the diminished
competition. The weed dealer can’t
do anything against us and he knows
it.
LOUIS
You should’ve killed him. We
wouldn’t have even needed to waste
the heroin stock.
Torreón SHOOTS, hitting the eight ball into a slot. He isn’t
fazed.
51.

TORREON
I'd rather give him heroin than
cocaine. Think of it as a test. If
he can sell ten million worth of
that, he can sell cocaine. Hell,
maybe we could recruit him.
Louis grabs a new pool stick from a rack. He shoots, hitting
the 8-ball in.
LOUIS
God damn it!
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE’S CAR SHOP - AFTERNOON

Vince looks through the cash register as Benji watches.
VINCE
I guess everyone's cars don't break
down anymore?
BENJI
(annoyed)
Three customers this week, Vince.
Where's my money gonna come from? I
stand around here all day polishing
and repolishing the same shit!
Vince looks up at him, still counting.
VINCE
Think of every customer that comes
in here as paying straight into
your pocket. Hell, I'll give you
extra for putting up with this.
He takes two hundred dollars from the open register and slaps
it onto the countertop.
BENJI
(annoyed)
It's a grand weekly, Vince.
VINCE
(ticked off)
Fine, take everything out of the
register, then.
He pulls the register container and DROPS it, spilling the
money and coins onto the ground.
52.

Benji GLARES, pissed off.

BENJI
I don't want that shit.
The bell DINGS from the door, causing both men to TURN.
STEFAN JOHNSON enters, furious.
STEFAN
I trusted you, Vince!
VINCE
What the hell? I sold you what you
paid for! Don't give me this upper-
class shit!
STEFAN
It was heroin, goddamn it! You knew
that!
VINCE
You should've known that before you
bought it from me! You know what
cocaine looks like!
STEFAN
You're an asshole, you know that?
I'm calling the cops on you.
Benji, behind Vince, pulls out a GUN, aiming it at Stefan.
Vince sees and WHIPS around, holding Benji's up. Benji
SHOOTS, into the ceiling.
Stefan RUNS out the door, terrified. He dials his phone as he
runs.
VINCE
What is your fuckin' problem?!
BENJI
He's gonna destroy everything we
have!
VINCE
He can't do shit. His reputation is
what matters! Kill druggies and
hobos, not actors!
Benji pauses, breathing fast.
BENJI
I'm beginning to think you're out
of money, Vince.
53.

Vince's face flashes FEAR, then fades.

VINCE
You believe that?
He opens his wallet, revealing tens of HUNDREDS. He pulls out
a handful and gives them to Benji.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Don't believe a word you hear
unless it comes straight from me.
There's your weekly grand. You can
pick up the rest over there if you
want it.
He walks off towards the door, pointing towards the downed
register.
CUT TO:

EXT. VINCE’S CAR SHOP, SIDEWALK - MOMENTS LATER

Stefan holds the phone to his ear, stressed.
STEFAN
Yeah, he pointed the gun at my
head!
Vince comes out of the shop behind Stefan.
VINCE
Hey!
Stefan whips around, terrified. He starts speedwalking down
the street, phone in hand.
STEFAN
I'm at the car shop off the I-59!
He's chasing me!
Vince catches up and puts his hand on Stefan's shoulder to
stop him.
VINCE
What's wrong?
He takes the phone from Stefan's hand and HANGS UP.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Why are you running away?
STEFAN
Your guy tried to kill me!
54.

VINCE
Yeah, and I saved you. You need to
be more grateful.
STEFAN
What the hell am I supposed to be
grateful about? You fucked me over!
Somebody went to the hospital
because of you!
VINCE
Do you really think I give a shit?
STEFAN
You're gonna care when I tell
everybody you're a lying piece of
shit.
VINCE
You can't hurt me. You haven't had
a leading role in four years.
Nobody's gonna hire an addict.
STEFAN
You'll see what I'm capable of.
Stefan storms off down the street. Vince smiles to himself.
CUT TO:

INT. CASINO, GAME FLOOR - NIGHT

Vince sits at the blackjack table, depressed. He sips a small
glass of LIQUOR.
Carson, the dealer from before, looks over at him.
CARSON
(jokingly)
You want me to hit you?
VINCE
Not right now. I'm still recovering
from the last time.
Beat. Carson deals. Vince eyes the river.
VINCE (CONT'D)
(distracted)
Eight of spades. Maybe diamonds. I
dunno, I'm drunk.
Carson places down a FOUR of HEARTS.
55.

Vince smiles, taking another sip.

VINCE (CONT'D)
Why can't life be like blackjack?
CARSON
It's pretty similar, I'd say. You
decide how to play based on the
cards given to you.
VINCE
(points, smiling)
Is that Titanic?
CARSON
(smiling)
I watched it last night with my
girlfriend.
VINCE
That's nice... real sweet.
(beat)
Can I ask you something?
CARSON
Sure. I'm not going anywhere.
VINCE
What the hell do I do with my life?
Carson looks up, confused.
CARSON
Well... I guess it all depends on
where you wanna go.
VINCE
I've been cheated and scammed out
of millions of dollars... uh...
(checks nametag)
Carson. What do you say to that?
CARSON
I'll tell you something, you sure
ain't gonna win it back here.
VINCE
Exactly, so what the hell am I
doing with myself?
Carson places the deck onto the table and SLIDES the drink
away from Vince.
56.

CARSON
Get your money back. If you've been
cheated, it would be a pretty
sensible thing to do.
Vince smiles, pulling the drink back towards him.
VINCE
I think you're right.
He pulls out his wallet, intending a tip. He looks down, and
his wallet is EMPTY.
Vince stands, finishes the drink, and walks towards the exit.
CUT TO:

EXT. CASINO, SIDEWALK - MOMENTS LATER

Vince stands on the side of the street. Sure enough, a LAND
ROVER pulls up along the curb. Vince opens the door--

INT. LAND ROVER - MOMENTS LATER

Alex drives. Vince is on his PHONE.
VINCE
(Texts, to TENLEY)
On my way home. Sorry, business
went late.
ALEX
You all right back there, Vince?
You haven't said anything all day.
Alex puts a lighted JOINT to his lips, sucks on it. Vince
looks up from his phone.
VINCE
Yeah sorry, man, I'm texting
Tenley.
ALEX
No need to, I already told her
you're on your way home.
VINCE
(looking up)
Thank you, Alex. I appreciate it.
ALEX
You doin' alright?
57.

Vince pauses, thinking.

VINCE
I guess I'm alright. I'm gonna get
my money back for once.
ALEX
I sure hope so. You forgot to pay
me for last month.
VINCE
You'll get extra once I finish this
job.
ALEX
You got a new job coming?
VINCE
Yeah, Torreon's got a base at the
bottom of the state. I'm gonna have
Isaiah loot it. There's gotta be a
couple million in cocaine there.
ALEX
Save some for me while you're at
it.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE’S HOUSE, LIVING ROOM - LATER

Vince paces, on the phone. Another boxing match plays on the
television behind him.
VINCE
Do you have jurisdiction up to
Reno?
MAN (O.S.)
Are you kidding me?
VINCE
I'm just asking! Jesus! Do you have
extensions with the chief of police
up there?
MAN (O.S.)
I mean, he probably knows me. I
don't think I can have him save
your ass without looking
suspicious.
58.

VINCE
All I'm doing is taking out a gang
warehouse up there. Christian
Torreon?
MAN (O.S.)
I've heard of him.
VINCE
I need you to guarantee my members'
safety. Can you do that?
MAN (O.S.)
I can't make any promises.
Vince, pissed, hangs up. Behind him, Tenley stands waiting.
TENLEY
Are you okay, Vince?
He turns and smiles.
VINCE
Yeah, I'm fine.
TENLEY
Is that your...
(finger quotes)
Business?
VINCE
(smiling)
You bet. I'm securing a deal right
now, actually.
He bends down and turns off the tv.
VINCE (CONT'D)
It's worth a couple million
dollars. I'm thinking we could go
to Switzerland or something.
TENLEY
(smiling)
Oh my God, honey! That'd be
amazing.
She kisses him hard.
VINCE
I told you I'd make us rich.
CUT TO:
59.

EXT. WAREHOUSE, BACK LOT - THE NEXT MORNING

Three suburbans get loaded with WEAPONS and body armor.
Isaiah oversees it, shouting orders as Vince walks up behind
him.
VINCE
In and out, right? You get
supplies, drug crates, money,
anything you can get your hands on
in less than half an hour.
ISAIAH
I expect extra for this, Vince.
VINCE
You're right. If I was you, I would
expect the same thing. Of course
you're getting extra, I guarantee
it.
ISAIAH
I've got eighteen guys coming who
all want bonuses as well.
VINCE
Think about this... whatever you
bring back, you get a majority of,
okay? I'm a man of my word, you
know that.
Isaiah nods and shakes Vince's hand. Vince pats his shoulder.
VINCE (CONT'D)
You're my best guy, you know that?

A drawer is pulled back, revealing two BRIEFCASES.

It's Vedder! He set us up!

the room.

ISAIAH
I was right about Vedder. I've got
the briefcases right here.
VINCE (O.S.)
Why didn't he keep the money?
ISAIAH
I'm thinking he's got the same idea
as you. He's trying to move up to
cocaine.

INT. VINCE'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

VINCE
(thrilled)
Well that means he's got two
million dollars worth of cocaine at
his place right now.

back to the office, I need you,
buddy!
CHINO (O.S.)
Vince, what the hell are you
talking about?
VINCE
Isaiah and some guys hijacked
Torreon’s Reno base! We got
millions of dollars here! I need
you back here to get your
connections to every single
celebrity in Hollywood. We’re
expanding, baby!
CHINO (O.S.)
Are you serious?
VINCE
Yeah! Right now I’m staring at two
million dollars sitting on my desk!
CHINO (O.S.)
I don’t care how much money you
have, I can’t work for you.
VINCE
(confused)
What the fuck? Why not?
CHINO (O.S.)
Because you fired me! You treated
me like shit, Vince! I can’t come
back to you after that!
VINCE
I’m sorry about that, Chino, but it
doesn’t matter anymore! Eight
million fucking dollars! Once we
sell this, we’re gonna be in the
tens.
CHINO (O.S.)
Stop thinking about the money and

Vince. You’re a piece of shit.
He HANGS UP. Vince stares into space, confused.

All of it?

Two of the three crates.
(Points with cigar)
That’s four million dollars in your
hands. Don’t let that shit slip.
You’re gonna be a wealthy man after
this. Hell, we’re all gonna be

TORREON
(Spanish)
Fuck!
(English)
Where is he now?
CHINO
He called me from his office. He
tried to recruit me back. I said
no.
TORREON
Go to him with some men and kill

Vince smiles and reaches into his pocket, pulling out a
baggie of COCAINE.
He hands it up to Alex, who hands back two hundred dollars.
ALEX (CONT'D)
I appreciate it. Do you want any?
VINCE
Hell no. Every time you say that I
get a headache.
He pulls out his phone and puts it to his ear.
67.

VINCE (CONT'D)
(to Alex)
Hold on a second, I gotta take a
phone call.
WARREN (O.S.)
Hello? Who is this?
VINCE
Warren! It’s me, Vince! I got your
money for you!
WARREN (O.S.)
I thought you were gonna kill me,
Vince. I don’t believe you.
VINCE
Hey, I’m sorry about that! I was
desperate! No hard feelings, right?
WARREN (O.S.)
Do you have the money or not? I
don’t know what the hell to think.
VINCE
I totally get that! I’m sorry! But
yes, I have the money! I worked out

Benji slides out.
BENJI (CONT'D)
What’s up, boss?
VINCE
Here’s your payment for this month,
in advance.
He pulls out a fat stack of cash and hands it to Benji. Benji

BENJI
You‘re in a good mood.
VINCE
(smiling)
I got that motherfucker back.
There’s six grand right there, you
enjoy that.
Benji hugs Vince.
BENJI
Thank you so much, Vince. I love
you, man.
VINCE
No problem. I know you’d do the
same for me.
The doorbell RINGS from the front. Vince turns and walks back
out to the front, followed by Benji.
WARREN, Tony, and another henchman enter. Warren is smiling
for the first time.
WARREN
You got the money for me, huh?
69.

He SHAKES Vince’s hand. Benji walks behind the counter, opens

the register and puts his money inside.
VINCE
You're goddamn right. Two point

Tenley stands, watching tv. She turns to see Vince holding
the package.
VINCE
(smiling)
Hey, look what I got you...
He hands the package to her. She sets down the WHISKEY BOTTLE
she's been holding. He notices as she takes the package.
VINCE (CONT'D)
(gingerly)
What have you been drinking for?
It's like four thirty.
TENLEY
What? You care now?
VINCE
Of course I care... You need to
stop touching that stuff, it's bad
for you.
72.

She struggles with the wrapping.

VINCE (CONT'D)
Lemme get that for you...
He REACHES for it, but she shifts away.
TENLEY
I don't need...
(focusing)
Your goddamn help...
Beat. She gets the wrapping off. It's a NECKLACE.
VINCE
You like it? I got it discounted.
Tiffany and Co...
TENLEY
(looking up at him)
I don't want this.
Vince pauses, unsure.
VINCE
Tenley, I spent three grand on that
thing. You don't want it?
TENLEY
(bitter)
I don't care how much you spent on
it, it doesn't mean anything if you
don't see me wear it!
VINCE
(confused)
What the hell are you talking
about?
TENLEY
You're never here, Vince. I'm sick
of waiting around for you to show
up at eleven o' clock every night.
I don't live on Vince's time! I
don't know why you married me if
you can't take the time to actually
be with me.
VINCE
You know that's not true... it's
not.
(points)
73.
VINCE (CONT'D)
I bought you that so you know I do
love you and that I'm sorry I
haven't been here.
TENLEY
I don't work for you, Vince! I
don't want your money, I don't want
jewelry, I want love! That's what
you promised me when you bought a
ring.
She takes off her ring and holds it up.
TENLEY (CONT'D)
This is the only thing I've ever
asked you to buy me! I never needed
anything else.
She DROPS it on the ground. He RUSHES forwards to pick it up.
VINCE
Come on, Tenley, please…
(Holds out the ring)
I’m busy all the time! If I could
spend every second with you, I
would, but I can’t! That’s not how
the goddamn world works!
TENLEY
You could try! I don’t know what to
do anymore!
VINCE
Give me time! That’s all I need
right now! I’m working something
out. If I can get this figured out,
we’re gonna be rich! You won’t even
have to work!
TENLEY
I don’t want to be rich! I don’t
want a big house! I just want you
with me! Tell me what’s so
important that’s keeping you from
me!
Vince opens his mouth, CLOSES it…
VINCE
I… can’t tell you. Babe, please…
TENLEY
Jesus, Vince, you work at a car
shop! Can’t you find time for me?
74.

VINCE
(hesitant)
I don’t…
TENLEY
(pissed)
Don’t what?
VINCE
I don’t work at a fuckin' car shop!
TENLEY
What?
(confused)
Then what the hell do you do?
VINCE
(tentatively)
I… sell drugs, Tenley.
Beat. Silence.
TENLEY
(confused)
What?
VINCE
That’s why I’m never here! That’s
why I’ve got so many goddamn deals!
I’ve got people that will literally
kill me if I mess anything up! You
don’t understand what I’m going
through right now!
She turns away, blinking back tears.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Come on, answer me!
TENLEY
What the fuck am I supposed to do
about it? I don’t know who you are,
Vince.
(Sobs)
You‘ve lied to me for the last five
years!
VINCE
How could I have told you? Who’d
wanna be with somebody like me,
huh?
(she stays turned)
Tenley! Jesus, say something!
75.

TENLEY
(turning around)
Vince, you lied to me! I’ve spent
the last five years thinking you
were a car dealer! I thought you
were honest. What else have you
been lying to me about?
VINCE
Nothing! How could I have told you?
What do you expect from me?
Tenley stutters, unsure what to say. Vince turns to a side
table and picks up the phone. He DIALS.
TENLEY
Vince! What are you doing?
VINCE
(holding the phone to his
ear)
I‘m taking a phone call!
TENLEY VINCE (CONT'D)
Put the phone down and talk Shut up! God, dammit!
to me!
JACK (O.S.)
Hello?
Tenley watches angrily.
VINCE
Jack! It's Vince. How's it going
down there? Give me some good news.

INT. LOS ANGELES WAREHOUSE, OFFICE - SAME TIME

Jack clutches the phone, reclining back in a leather chair.
Behind him sits Isaiah.
JACK
(ecstatic)
I've been here for a week and we've
sold two million fuckin' dollars! I
just bought a Tahoe for the way
back.
VINCE (O.S.)
That's fuckin' great! Listen, I
need you to stop buying shit until
you've sold the rest.
76.

JACK
Vince, I don't think you
understand, the money won't be in
the same place then. If you want
six million dollars in cash, it's
gonna have to come three million at
a time.

INT. VINCE'S HOUSE, BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS

Vince PACES.
VINCE
Alright, that's fine. Just promise
me you're not gonna buy a Ferrari.
JACK (O.S.)
Don't worry about me.
(beat)
Isaiah's here right now, he wants
to talk to you.
VINCE
Alright, put him on.
Tenley steps forward.
TENLEY
Talk to me, Vince! Please!
VINCE
(to Tenley)
Give me a minute!
(into phone)
Isaiah? You there?
ISAIAH (O.S.)
Yeah, I'm here. I got a call from
Chino about an hour ago.
VINCE
Why the hell did he call you? I
tried to rehire him, but he said
no.

INT. LOS ANGELES WAREHOUSE, OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

ISAIAH
I dunno, but he asked how
operations were going with Torreon.
I thought he was being stupid, but
then I remembered you fired him.
77.

INT. VINCE'S HOUSE, BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS

VINCE
I didn't even fire him! He left!
(sighs)
What did you tell him?
ISAIAH (O.S.)
I told him we're in Los Angeles for
the expansion.
VINCE
Listen, I forbid you from talking
to Chino anymore. As long as he
doesn't work for me, he doesn't get
to know shit.
ISAIAH (O.S.)
Alright, I just wanted to let you
know.
VINCE
No, no, I appreciate it a lot,
thank you. Good luck out there.
Give me a call when you sell the
rest and head back over. I'll give
you a raise when you get back.
ISAIAH (O.S.)
Alright, thank you Vince.
Vince HANGS up. He turns to Tenley.
VINCE
You see what it's like? I can
barely go two minutes by myself
without taking a phone call! I'm
stressed! You think this is what
happens from selling cars?
TENLEY
(shaking her head)
Why couldn't you have told me? We
could've worked this out!
VINCE
I am working this out! I'm about to
make six million dollars!
TENLEY
God, Vince, all you care about is
money! What do I mean to you?
78.

VINCE
Everything!
A pause. They both stare at each other.
TENLEY
What the fuck does that mean?
VINCE
You mean everything to me! I
shouldn't need to tell you that for
you to know it! Why do you need
validation for everything?!
She just stares. Vince breathes hard, angry. Tenley walks
past him, picking up the whiskey bottle on the way out,
taking a SIP.
Vince GRABS the table the whiskey bottle was on and THROWS it
across the room.
CUT TO:

EXT. LOS ANGELES WAREHOUSE, LOT - THE NEXT MORNING

Jack and Isaiah load bricks of COCAINE into the back of a
suburban.
CUT TO:

EXT. DIRECTOR'S HOUSE, DRIVEWAY - LATER

The suburban parks outside a large house. Isaiah and Jack hop
out with three other men and open the back. A MOVIE DIRECTOR
(50's) walks out of the house.
MOVIE DIRECTOR
Hey, hey, hey! What is this?
Jack turns around, confused.
JACK
This is the shipment you paid for.
MOVIE DIRECTOR
No, sir! I want this off of my
property immediately!
JACK
You made the deal! I didn't drive
up here for nothing.
79.

MOVIE DIRECTOR
I don't want heroin from you! I
thought I was buying cocaine!
JACK
(confused)
What the fuck are you talking
about?
MOVIE DIRECTOR
I got a call last night from Stefan
Johnson about how your boss sold
him sixty grand worth of a bullshit
drug!
JACK
That wasn't our fault!
The movie director gets in Jack's face.
MOVIE DIRECTOR
Then whose fault was it? Huh?
What're you gonna tell me to change
my mind?
JACK
Get out of my goddamn face. It was
our plug's fault, he screwed us
over.
MOVIE DIRECTOR
You know what? That sounds like a
load of shit. I should've called
last night... You and all your
buddies aren't getting shit from
me.
JACK
I came here for the forty grand you
promised!
MOVIE DIRECTOR
I was gonna give it to you, but
Stefan told me you're a bunch of
liars.
Isaiah walks forwards, not having it.
ISAIAH
Give us the goddamn money.
Now HE gets in the director's face, who backs up.
80.

MOVIE DIRECTOR
What're you gonna do, big guy?
There ain't nobody in the whole
goddamn city that doesn't know my
name.
Isaiah smiles. He turns to Jack and the others.
ISAIAH
Let's go. This piece of shit ain't
worth it.
They start getting in the van.
MOVIE DIRECTOR
(yelling)
You bastards enjoy it! I'll tell
every colleague of mine you're
lying scumbags! You won't get
business for shit in my city!
CUT TO:

INT. TORREON'S HIDEOUT, TORREON’S OFFICE - NIGHT

Torreon counts a stack of CASH. LOUIS walks in.
Dialogue is in SPANISH, subbed.
LOUIS
Sir, the weed dealer moved the
stock into L.A.
Torreon looks up slowly.
TORREON
Well, first off, he isn't a weed
dealer anymore, and two, I knew
that already.
LOUIS
(confused)
Who told you?
TORREON
He did. He told me that when we
made the deal.
LOUIS
So what the hell are we going to do
about it?
81.

TORREON
Bring Chino in here. Hurry.
Louis turns to leave. Torreon looks down at the money again.
CUT TO:

INT. TORREON'S HIDEOUT, TORREON’S OFFICE - MOMENTS LATER

CHINO walks in, followed by Louis.
CHINO
Sir, Vince expanded into Los
Angeles. He's--
TORREON
Louis already relayed that to me. I
want to know why you didn't shoot
him dead.
CHINO
I didn't go inside. I can't have
him know I'm working for you.
TORREON
(impressed)
I can see why he kept you around.
You're quite capable.
CHINO
Thank you, sir.
(beat)
He still has nearly four million
dollars of your cocaine.
TORREON
It will be your job to retrieve it.
CHINO
I don't know where the hell he is.
He could be in L.A.
TORREON
Do you know where he lives?
Chino nods, concerned.
TORREON (CONT'D)
Then go there. Make it quick.
CHINO
Sir, he has a wife...
82.

TORREON
Let's hope she doesn't interfere,
then.
Chino nods.
CHINO
I'll leave in the morning.
He turns and leaves. Torreon eyes Louis.
TORREON
(Spanish)
Kill him if he fails.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE'S OFFICE - AFTERNOON

Vince sits in his chair across from Isaiah.
VINCE
Jack told me that he's getting less
calls every day. You wanna know
why?
ISAIAH
It's because of that asshole movie
star.
VINCE
You're right, but it's because we
trusted Torreon. Vedder? That shit
happens. Sure, two million was a
blow, but we got it back, right?
ISAIAH
Jack hasn't gotten shit because
Stefan Johnson told every tie he
knows that we're a bunch of liars.
VINCE
(not listening)
I want you to kill Christian
Torreon.
He reaches down and pulls a GUN from his desk drawer.
VINCE (CONT'D)
I want you to blow his fuckin'
brains out with this. I don't care
how you do it, just get it done.
83.

ISAIAH
I can't kill him, Vince.
VINCE
Why the not? What the hell do I pay
you for?
ISAIAH
(annoyed)
You haven't paid me in two months!
Where the hell did the two million
you had go?
VINCE
(stutters)
I-I got pinned. His fuckin' goons
came in here and took both of them!
All my money's with Jack right now.
Didn't you see the glass in the
entrance?
ISAIAH
I came in the back way, how was I
supposed to know that? Give me my
payment first and then we'll talk
about killing people.
Vince holds out the gun.
VINCE
Here, take this.
ISAIAH
I don't want your goddamn gun.
VINCE
Here! Just take it! I'll get your
money.
ISAIAH
What's in your safe, Vince? What do
you have in there? What have you
been keeping from the rest of us?
VINCE
There is no fucking safe!
Everything's gone. Torreon's men
took it all from my office!
ISAIAH
Then how are you gonna pay me?
You're full of shit, you know that?
84.

VINCE
I'm not full of shit, I got robbed!
How is that my fault? I was gonna
give you your money!
ISAIAH
You're asking me about killing
people! I'm not a fuckin'
mercenary!
VINCE
You work for me! I'm asking you to
work with me here!
ISAIAH
I don't work for anybody who
doesn't pay me. You don't have shit
to give me, so I don't work for you
anymore.
Vince pulls out his wallet, fumbling. He opens it... EMPTY.
He looks up nervously, opening his mouth--
ISAIAH (CONT'D)
I knew it! You're fucking broke!
VINCE
You ever heard of a bank account?
I'll go there right now! I'll get
it to you!
He STANDS, starting towards the door. Isaiah stands--
ISAIAH
(yelling)
Two months' worth! In my fuckin'
hand!
CUT TO:

INT. LAND ROVER - LATER

Alex drives per usual. Vince sits in the back.
VINCE
(stressed)
Get off on the I-63. Chase Bank.
ALEX
You doin' alright, Vince?
85.

VINCE
I'm fine, Alex. Get off here.
CUT TO:

EXT. BANK, ATM MACHINES - MOMENTS LATER

Vince TAPS on the screen rapidly. Alex waits in the car,
watching. The ATM SPITS out CASH. Vince pockets it.
CUT TO:

INT. LAND ROVER - MOMENTS LATER

Vince DIALS on his phone.
DEAN (O.S.)
Hello?
VINCE
Dean! I need you to place a bet for
me.
DEAN
I thought you didn't need me
anymore.
VINCE
There's a boxing match I wanna bet
on. I need money, Dean.
DEAN
(angry)
Don't we all, Vince? What makes you
so goddamn special?
He HANGS UP. Vince sits in silence. He starts DIALING, puts
the phone to his ear.
JACK (O.S.)
Hello?
VINCE
Jack! I need you back here.
JACK (O.S.)
I can't, Vince. I just got this new
deal I'm working on.
VINCE
Scrap it! I'm out of money! I can
barely pay Isaiah.
86.

JACK
Vince, this guy's about to buy a
hundred thousand dollars! This is
shit I've never seen before.
Vince looks around, thinking hard.
VINCE
A hundred thousand dollars?
JACK
It's some millionaire up in the
hills. He's got a hundred thousand
dollars to burn.
VINCE
Do it. Make it quick. I need you
here.
JACK
I'll leave tomorrow afternoon once
we get it sealed.
VINCE
Good, good. Thank you! I'll get you
a bonus for this, don't worry.
He HANGS UP.
CUT TO:

EXT. VINCE'S HOUSE, SIDEWALK - MOMENTS LATER

Vince steps out of the Land Rover and walks towards his
house.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE’S HOUSE, LIVING ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Vince takes off his shoes.
TENLEY (O.S.)
Vince?
VINCE
Honey! I'm home!
Tenley walks into the room.
87.

TENLEY
Did you buy another necklace for
me?
VINCE
(confused)
No? I mean, I could if you wanted
me to...
TENLEY
Then why did you withdraw eight
thousand dollars from your account?
VINCE
I had to pay an employee for
something! I forgot to pay him for
the last two months...
TENLEY
(annoyed)
Jesus Christ, Vince! Stop lying to
me!
VINCE
I'm not lying!
TENLEY
I'm fine if you lose money outside
of us, but you're cutting into our
money!
VINCE
Babe, I promise I'm not lying! His
name is Isaiah! He's a great guy!
We're good friends! I just needed
to pay him! That money will come
straight back tomorrow.
A KNOCK on the door. Vince angrily turns, walks over, and
OPENS it.
CHINO stands there, GUN in hand.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Chino, what're you doing?
Chino lifts the gun to Vince's head, walking into the house.
CHINO
I have to kill you, Vince.
Vince backs up towards the couches. Tenley GASPS as she sees
Chino
88.

VINCE
Chino, I never blamed you for what
happened!
CHINO
I'm glad. It worked even better
than I had thought.
VINCE
You... Torreon fucking paid you
off?
CHINO
Only after the deal took place. Two
hundred fifty thousand to work for
him. I realized you were full of
shit after you turned on me so
fast.
VINCE
How could I not? You were a
liability! You'd have done the same
thing to me.
CHINO
Would you be standing here? Holding
this gun to my head?
Vince pauses, spluttering.
TENLEY
Chino! Don't hurt him!
VINCE
Chino, I've worked with you for
years...
CHINO
What did any of that mean to you? I
didn't go to Torreon because of the
money, I did it so I could finally
be respected.
VINCE
I respect you, buddy! Come on,
please!
Tenley RUSHES forwards at Chino, trying to grab the gun.
Chino turns, PUNCHING Tenley, knocking her backwards.
Vince pulls out his gun and FIRES ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR times
into Chino. Tenley SCREAMS.
89.

Chino falls backwards, dropping the gun. His body seizes up

and he lies still, bleeding out. Vince rushes over to Tenley.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Hey, hey, hey. Are you okay?
Tenley groans. A large bruise forms on her cheek.
TENLEY
Oh my God...
(sees Chino's body)
Vince... you killed him.
VINCE
Whatever, it doesn't matter.
He helps her up and walks over to Chino's body. Vince PATS
around, pulling out Chino's WALLET.
He opens it--
VINCE (CONT'D)
Jackpot.
Inside the wallet, BILLS of money...
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE’S CAR SHOP - MIDDAY

The bell jingles as Vince enters. The glass around the door
is TAPED.
JAKE (O.C.)
Hey, Vince.
Vince walks up to the counter, where JAKE stands.
VINCE
We're gonna be closed this
afternoon, alright?
JAKE
What time?
Vince keeps walking.
VINCE
I dunno, I'll call you or
something.
90.

He SLIDES the metal gate up.

CUT TO:

INT. VINCE'S OFFICE - MOMENTS LATER

Vince is ON THE PHONE, pacing per usual.
VINCE
Jack! How'd the deal go?
JACK (O.S.)
I asked for an extra ten grand for
our delivery and the sonuvabitch
took it.
VINCE
That's what?... a hundred thirty
thousand?
JACK (O.S.)
You're goddamn right.
VINCE
(happy)
Listen, Jack. Did he give it to you
in cash?
JACK (O.S.)
Yeah, I've got it right here with
me. We're on our way back.
ISAIAH enters Vince's office. Vince shakes his hand, staying
on the call.
VINCE
That's great. I want you to take
that extra ten grand and split it
amongst your car. You guys deserve
it.
JACK (O.S.)
Thank you, boss. I appreciate that.
VINCE
No problem, just get back here with
the money, alright?
JACK (O.S.)
You got it, boss.
Vince HANGS up, turning to Isaiah.
91.

VINCE
How are you doing, Isaiah?
ISAIAH
(annoyed)
Tell me about this extra ten grand
you got going.
VINCE
Yeah, Jack talked the millionaire
motherfucker into sparing us an
extra ten grand. I told him to
split it amongst the other guys as
collateral.
ISAIAH
Collateral for what, Vince? Who
else haven't you paid?
VINCE
Calm down, Jesus! I've paid
everybody!
ISAIAH
Where's my goddamn money? I said
you need to have eight grand in my
hand by today and you fuckin' lied
to me again!
Vince walks around to his desk, opening the safe.
VINCE
I've got your money right here.
ISAIAH
That safe was fuckin' empty
yesterday!
Vince smiles, holding up the money.
VINCE
Not anymore, buddy.
He walks over to Isaiah, handing it to him. Isaiah COUNTS it,
focused.
ISAIAH
You better not be lying to me
again.
VINCE
What good would it do for me to lie
to you? That's twelve grand out of
my own pocket right there.
92.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Out of my fuckin' bank account.
Four thousand extra, all for you.
Isaiah finishes counting. He looks up.
ISAIAH
Alright, there we go.
VINCE
See? I got around to it! You don't
know how hard my life has been
recently.
Isaiah pockets the money.
ISAIAH
You don't know about me either. My
wife just got laid off. This money
isn't just saving your ass, you
know.
VINCE
I get that! I totally get that!
That's why I threw in an extra four
grand for you.
ISAIAH
I appreciate it a lot. Just don't
make me wait around so goddamn
long.
VINCE
I'm sorry, it won't happen again.
I've been in deep shit for the last
two weeks.
ISAIAH
(slightly annoyed)
You think you're the only one?
VINCE
I had to fuckin' kill Chino last
night!
ISAIAH
(shocked)
What the hell did you do that for?
Isaiah starts towards Vince, who backs up a little
defensively.
VINCE
He was working for Torreon! That's
why he made the deal with Vedder!
93.
VINCE (CONT'D)
He had connections with Fonso to
fuckin' scam us! He was gonna kill
you, too. He was gonna blow the
whole operation!
ISAIAH
God damn it.
VINCE
Don't worry about him. Now that
he's gone, Torreon's got no leads
with us.
ISAIAH
No, he knows we're in L.A. Chino
called me yesterday, remember?
VINCE
Don't worry, I've got it covered.
I'm recalling Jack right now. He's
on his way back with almost three
million in cash.
ISAIAH
What happened to the extra million?
VINCE
We've got a large stock of cocaine
left. That's about enough to stay
relatively big over here. We'll
expand once Torreon is dead.
CUT TO:

EXT. HIGHWAY - AFTERNOON

Two matching SUBURBANS drive alongside each other.

INT. SUBURBAN - CONTINUOUS

Jack sits in the back, on his phone. He LOOKS up to the back
of the car. Through the window, six MOTORCYCLES are gaining,
quickly. Two riders per bike: one driving, one with a gun.
JACK
Guys... Guys!

EXT. HIGHWAY - CONTINUOUS

The motorcycles SPLIT around the two suburbans. The riders
brandish GUNS.
94.

One rider turns and FIRES at Jack's car driver, hitting him
in the head. The suburban VEERS off towards the other,
swerving wildly.

INT. SUBURBAN - CONTINUOUS

Jack BRACES himself as the other men inside roll down the
window to try and fire back. The suburban SMASHES into the
other, veering off the side of the road.

EXT. HIGHWAY, SIDE OF ROAD - CONTINUOUS

The motorcyclists drive up to Jack's suburban, SHOOTING out

work.
JACK
Shit!
He turns out the window and FIRES at the cyclists, HITTING
one.

Two cyclists drive up to the downed suburban, guns in hand. A
man opens the sun roof to climb out but gets GUNNED DOWN by a
rider.

INT. SUBURBAN - CONTINUOUS

Jack opens the driver's door and hops out, pistol at the
ready. A motorcyclist turns the corner of the car. Jack
FIRES, hitting the cyclist and causing the bike to FLIP.
Jack bends down, looking underneath the cars. He sees four
motorbike wheels.
Jack crawls underneath the car.
CUT TO:
95.

EXT. TORREON'S HIDEOUT, LOT - MOMENTS LATER

Torreon watches as his men load up bricks of cocaine into
cars. Louis watches close by, a phone to his ear.
All dialogue is in SPANISH, subbed.
LOUIS
Our men hijacked the weed dealer's
shipment. We're recovering the
money right now.
Torreon smiles.
TORREON
Exceptional. I want you to go to
his shop again and loot what you
find.
LOUIS
He's still alive, sir.
TORREON
Very well. He's alive and broke. We
shouldn't engage with him anymore,
then.
LOUIS
He killed our men in Reno, sir. He
took millions...
TORREON
That we recovered. We have his
money and our shipments back.
Louis, annoyed, turns to the cars.
CUT TO:

EXT. HIGHWAY, SIDE OF ROAD - CONTINUOUS

The riders LOOT the trashed suburbans. Jack stays underneath,
watching them.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE'S OFFICE - AFTERNOON

Vince paces, on the phone.
96.

VINCE
(to himself)
Pick up... dammit.
He SLAMS the phone down, thinking. He picks it back up again,
dialing.
ISAIAH (O.S.)
Hello?
VINCE
Isaiah! I think Jack got taken out.
ISAIAH (O.S.)
By Torreon?
VINCE
Yeah, he's not answering the
goddamn phone.
ISAIAH (O.S.)
Give him an hour or two.
VINCE
I've been calling him for an hour!
He's in a car! Why else wouldn't he
answer?
ISAIAH (O.S.)
Did you forget to pay him, too?
VINCE
What? No! I gave him the ten grand,
remember?
ISAIAH (O.S.)
Give him half an hour.
VINCE
Alright listen, that's not the only
reason I called you. I need you to
take out Christian Torreon.
ISAIAH (O.S.)
Not this shit again, Vince.
VINCE
How much do you want from me? I'm
willing to pay it from the
shipments.
97.

ISAIAH (O.S.)
I want twenty grand in cash, do you
hear me? I'm not waiting two months
for this shit.
VINCE
You won't, I promise!
Vince's pocket BUZZES. He lifts it up. It's JACK.
VINCE (CONT'D)
I'll call you back in a second!
Jack's calling me right now.
CUT TO:

EXT. HIGHWAY, SIDE OF ROAD - CONTINUOUS

Jack, underneath the car, looks out at the men looting.
JACK
(whisper)
Vince! Torreon's men fuckin'
hijacked us! They've killed
everybody...
VINCE (O.S.)
Jack, where the fuck are you right
now?
JACK
We're two hours away. They tipped
the cars while we were driving.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

Vince rubs his forehead.
VINCE
No way... no fucking way! Get out
of there and get back here!
JACK (O.S.)
(quietly)
I can't, I'm under the car right
now.
CUT TO:
98.

EXT. HIGHWAY, SIDE OF ROAD - CONTINUOUS

JACK
I think they're leaving.
A SHOUT from behind Jack. Jack WHIPS around, but is SHOT IN
THE HEAD by a motorcyclist. His hand slumps, holding the
phone.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

Vince stops pacing, stressed.
VINCE
Jack? Jack?!...
He puts the phone down, then THROWS it onto the ground.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Fuck!
He picks up the other phone and DIALS, putting it to his ear.
ISAIAH (O.S.)
Vince?
VINCE
They fuckin' killed Jack! They took
the goddamn shipments, everything!
ISAIAH (O.S.)
Where are you now?
VINCE
I'm at my office. Listen, I need
you to go find Torreon and kill
him.
ISAIAH (O.S.)
Vince! How the hell are you going
to pay me?! You just lost three
million dollars!
VINCE
I have the money at home! Jesus! I
need him dead, Isaiah! He can't
fucking win!
Vince SLAMS the phone down.
CUT TO:
99.

INT. VINCE'S HOUSE, BEDROOM - LATER

Vince SEARCHES through a drawer. He takes out a large
NECKLACE, pocketing it.
CUT TO:

INT. PAWN SHOP - LATER

Vince's fingers TAP rapidly against the glass counter. A PAWN
SHOP OWNER (50's) looks over the jewelry.
PAWN SHOP OWNER
I could probably get you...
(thinks)
Six grand for this.
VINCE
No, no, I spent eight grand on it
three years ago. It's gotta be at
least that.
PAWN SHOP OWNER
I dunno, look at this thing. Were
you keeping it under a shelf?
VINCE
(beat)
Basically, yeah.
PAWN SHOP OWNER
Well that's your problem. It's not
gonna be worth its buying price.
Vince scrambles to take off his WATCH.
VINCE
Well how about this? Huh? I got a
Rolex.
He hands it to the owner. The owner OBSERVES it closely.
PAWN SHOP OWNER
This is much better.
(looks at Vince)
How much did you buy it for?
VINCE
Why does that matter? I'm not
telling you.
PAWN SHOP OWNER
Why not?
100.

VINCE
You're gonna tell me it's worth
half of what I say. Just tell me
what you think it's worth.
PAWN SHOP OWNER
Let's see...
(observes the watch)
I can get you eleven grand for
this.
VINCE
(pissed off)
You gotta be fucking shittin' me. I
bought that thing for fifteen grand
last year! You're telling me it
depreciated three thousand dollars?
PAWN SHOP OWNER
Nothing is worth what it's being
sold for. You oughta know these
things if you're buying something
expensive. You want something worth
its price, you buy something cheap.
Vince rubs his forehead, stressed.
VINCE
That's what? Seventeen grand? For
both?
PAWN SHOP OWNER
(nodding)
That's all I can get you for what
it's worth.
Vince groans.
VINCE
God dammit.
He reaches forwards and SLIDES the necklace and the watch
across to the owner.
CUT TO:

EXT. CITY STREET, SIDEWALK - MOMENTS LATER

Vince pushes past people hurriedly, on his phone.
101.

VINCE
Isaiah! I've got your money right
here! Meet me at my office right
now!
He HANGS UP, but DIALS again, putting the phone up to his
ear.
TENLEY (O.S.)
Hello? Vince?
VINCE
Hey babe! It's me! I'm gonna be
home a bit later tonight, ok?
Probably around ten thirty.
TENLEY (O.S.)
Jesus Christ, Vince... I'm so--
VINCE
(interrupting)
I know you're mad, honey, I don't
blame you. When I get back, you and
me are gonna have the best fuckin'
sex of our lives.
TENLEY (O.S.)
Vince, please! I don't care! What
the hell are you doing?
VINCE
A business deal, babe! I'm getting
everything worked out! This will be
the last night I'm home late, okay?
TENLEY (O.S.)
(exhausted)
Vince, I can't do this anymore...
Vince checks his watch: 5:26.
VINCE
(talking fast)
Holy shit, babe. I gotta go. I'm so
sorry about all of this, I gotta
go. I love you so much.
He HANGS UP.
CUT TO:
102.

INT. VINCE'S OFFICE - LATER

Vince SLAPS the seventeen grand onto the table.
VINCE
There you go. You thought I'd
fuckin' lie to you again, huh?
Isaiah smiles a little, taking the money and COUNTING it. He
looks up, annoyed, SLAPPING it back down onto the desk.
ISAIAH
This ain't twenty grand, Vince.
VINCE
I know, that's all the pawn shop
guy would give me. Remember that
extra four grand I gave you
yesterday?
ISAIAH
You said that was for collateral!
VINCE
I did, but now it's for a better
cause. Seventeen grand is pretty
damn close, I think.
ISAIAH
(pissed off)
Jesus Christ, Vince!
VINCE
You wanna kill this guy or not? He
stole four million dollars of my
fuckin' money! Of your money!
Doesn't that make you mad?
Isaiah looks around, away from Vince.
ISAIAH
Jesus...
(looks at Vince)
Do you know what it's gonna be to
get to this guy?
VINCE
He sits in the booth seats at every
one of Lopez's boxing matches. It's
an hour and a half from here. Find
him there. If he's gone, catch him
in the street! Shoot him while he's
at the fuckin' grocery store! I
don't care!
103.
VINCE (CONT'D)
(points)
That's twenty thousand out of my
goddamn pocket. I need some fuckin'
results.
ISAIAH
This ain't twenty grand, Vince, I
just told you.
VINCE
It's close enough isn't it? I took
that money from my safe drawer at
home. That's how desperate I am
right now. I need this from you.
Isaiah SIGHS heavily.
VINCE (CONT'D)
Listen, whatever you find from him,
you can keep. He's a rich man, he's
gonna carry money with him...
ISAIAH
What about my life? What am I gonna
do if I get caught?
VINCE
You don't need to worry about that.
I've got you covered. I've been
paying off the chief of police for
the last eight months. Nobody's
gonna do shit to you.
He turns and picks up the money off the desk, walking around
to the safe.
ISAIAH
What the hell are you doing? That's
my money right there.
VINCE
I'm putting it in my safe. I'll
give it right to you as soon as you
kill that son of a bitch.
Isaiah STARTS, angry. He backs off.
ISAIAH
Where's that gun you were gonna
give to me?
Vince reaches into the safe and pulls it out.
104.

VINCE
There you go.
(tosses it to Isaiah)
That's my favorite gun, so you'd
better bring it back to me.
ISAIAH
I'm not taking it because of
preference, I'm taking it so
they'll know it's you.
VINCE
(smiling)
Who else do they have to fear, huh?
Isaiah starts walking out.
ISAIAH
(stern)
God, Vince.

Hold on, you know I'd never lie to
you.
(reaches into the bag)
Twenty fuckin' grand, right here.
He takes it out and hands it to Marcus. Marcus COUNTS it.
Behind him, CAR LIGHTS appear.
Marcus turns, money in hand. It's a COP CAR. Out hops a young
cop, JUSTIN (20's). He walks around and opens the door.
Out steps ISAIAH, still handcuffed.
MARCUS
Is this your guy?
VINCE
(smiling)
You fuckin' bet!
(To Isaiah, yells)
Isaiah! You get him?
115.

ISAIAH
Yeah, I popped his ass!
Justin gets out his keys to unlock Isaiah's cuffs.
VINCE
Hell yeah...
(to Marcus, looking at the
money)
How's that for a month's payment?
MARCUS
It's good... real nice.
(to Justin)
Justin! Come here!
Justin, working on the cuffs, pauses, unsure.
MARCUS (CONT'D)
Just get over here! Jesus...
Justin walks over, leaving Isaiah cuffed.
MARCUS (CONT'D)
(to Vince)
This is the guy you should thank,
Vince.
Vince reaches out and shakes Justin's hand.
VINCE
I appreciate you, man. I really do,
you saved me a hell of a lot of
trouble.
JUSTIN
You're welcome, sir.
MARCUS
Why don't you thank him as well,
Vince?
VINCE
(confused)
I just shook his hand... what are
you talking about?
MARCUS
Don't you think you owe him for
what he did for you?
116.

VINCE
I'm paying you twenty thousand
dollars already. Give him some of
your share if you care so bad.
MARCUS
No, I don't think so. I promised
him we'd both make twenty.
VINCE
(annoyed)
Well that's a dumb fuckin' thing to
say. Why'd you say that, Marcus? I
already owe two guys twenty
thousand dollars, I don't need a
third one on my ass.
Marcus pulls out his GUN, pointing it at Vince. Justin does
the same.
MARCUS
Twenty thousand dollars, asshole!
Bring it out!
Vince holds up his hands.
VINCE
What're you gonna do? Shoot me?
MARCUS
How do you think I'm gonna look
when I bust your ass for drug
trafficking? I've denied you enough
in the past. If you don't pay him,
you go in the pen for life.
Vince laughs nervously, looking over at Isaiah.
VINCE
I don't have sixty thousand
dollars, Marcus.
MARCUS
Somebody's not getting paid or
you're going to jail. You get to
choose, motherfucker!
VINCE
I can't pay all three of you! Jesus
Christ! I could barely pay one of
you before I won! You can't lie to
me like this, Marcus!
117.

MARCUS
How's it fuckin' feel, Vince? As
far as I'm concerned, you've only
gotta pay two of us.
VINCE
What the hell...
He looks over at Isaiah, who's PISSED.
ISAIAH
Vince!
MARCUS
He's going to jail for homicide,
Vince! You just gonna let that
happen?
ISAIAH
Vince! God dammit, Vince!
He walks forwards angrily.
MARCUS
(to Justin)
Shut him up!
Justin THROWS Isaiah to the ground. Vince PAUSES, thinking
hard.
ISAIAH
Vince, you son of a bitch!
MARCUS
What's it gonna be, Vince?
VINCE
(to himself)
Take him.
(louder)
Take him. Take your forty thousand.
Marcus beckons with the gun towards the bag. Vince reaches
into it and COUNTS, handing over another stack of CASH.
Marcus puts the gun down and counts the money. Isaiah's eyes
WIDEN, realizing.
ISAIAH
Fuck you, Vince!
Justin JAMS his gun into Isaiah's cheek.
118.

JUSTIN
Shut the fuck up!
Marcus turns to Justin and tosses him the stack of cash. He
turns back to Vince.
MARCUS
I appreciate it. I think we're done
here.

bag and turns towards the Land Rover.

VINCE
(tentative)
Hey babe. Are you okay?
TENLEY
(pissed)
Are you fucking kidding me, Vince?
It's eleven thirty!
VINCE
(tiredly)
Babe... I'm so sorry.
TENLEY
When have you ever been sorry? When
has your life been about me in the
last year? When have you ever cared
about me? You promised to love me
five years ago, why did you lie to
me?
Vince opens his mouth and closes it.
VINCE
I never lied to you... I love you,
Tenley.
TENLEY
(shaking her head)
Another fucking lie, Vince... You
said ten thirty! What have you been
doing, Vince? Tell me the truth!
VINCE
It was a business deal! I swear to
God! I owed somebody money! They
were gonna send me to jail, Tenley!
Jesus!
TENLEY
No...
(sobs a little)
God, Vince. Just tell me you're
seeing someone. I'm done with the
lies, please...
120.

VINCE
Tenley, I swear... I've never
thought of anybody else than you. I
love you so goddamn much.
Tenley takes a sip of the liquor and THROWS it at VINCE,
missing wildly. She cries a little, putting her hand to block
it.
She notices the bag of money he's holding--
TENLEY
What the hell is that, Vince?
VINCE
It's from the deal. Eleven thousand
in cash. Do you want it? I'll give
it to you...
He holds it out. She takes it and walks over to the
fireplace, DUMPING the cash into the flames.
Vince walks over, horrified.
VINCE (CONT'D)
What the fuck did you just do?!
TENLEY
That's all you care about, Vince!
You never gave a shit about me!
Vince turns, angry. He tries to calm himself.
VINCE
Jesus Christ! Tenley, I swear to
God.
She SOBS, holding her face in her hands.
TENLEY
(choking up)
Vince... God...
Vince WATCHES, silent. Calming himself down. He steps
forwards.
VINCE
(lovingly)
Babe... you're drunk.
(walks towards her)
Let me get you cleaned up, please.
She SHOVES him back, glaring into his eyes.
121.

TENLEY
Fuck you, Vince.
She PUSHES past him. He REACHES for her hand, but she pulls
away. She OPENS the door, walking out.
VINCE
Babe...
(yells)
Come back, Tenley!
(to himself)
God dammit!
He FOLLOWS her.
CUT TO:

EXT. VINCE'S HOUSE, DRIVEWAY - CONTINUOUS

Tenley STORMS towards her car. Vince follows after her,
catching up.
VINCE
Tenley, I swear to God, I've never
touched another woman. I'm telling
the goddamn truth...
TENLEY
(whipping around)
Give me one reason to believe you.
One.
He pauses, opening his mouth. He's SILENT. Tenley turns,
getting into her car.
Vince watches as she drives off, silent.

EXT. VINCE’S CAR SHOP, SIDEWALK - THE NEXT MORNING

Vince steps out of the Land Rover. He starts to walk towards
the shop--
ALEX
Vince!
Vince turns back to him.
ALEX (CONT'D)
When's my check coming in?
Vince groans, rubbing his forehead.
VINCE
(choked up)
God dammit. Alex, I'm so sorry,
man. Fuck! I'm sorry--
ALEX
(lovingly)
Hey... Hey! It's okay.
Vince turns, surprised, tears in his eyes.
ALEX (CONT'D)
It's okay, man.
(laughs)
I'm sure you've given me enough
from all those tips.
Vince laughs, choking up.
VINCE
God, I love you, man.
ALEX
I appreciate you, Vince. Here...
He reaches into the glove box and pulls out a JOINT. He holds
it out.
ALEX (CONT'D)
Take it. It's your own stuff. It'll
make you feel better.
Vince reluctantly takes it. He puts it into his pocket,
smiling at Alex.
VINCE
I guess I'll see you around, huh?
123.

ALEX
(nodding grimly)
Don't count on it.
Vince watches as Alex pulls away from the curb. He takes the
joint out of his hand and observes it, turning and walking
towards the shop.
CUT TO:

INT. VINCE’S CAR SHOP - SECONDS LATER

The little door bell JINGLES as Vince walks in slowly. JAKE
waits at the counter, cleaning a hubcap.
VINCE
Hey, Jake.
Jake nods in greeting. He looks down at the hubcap.
Vince WAITS at the counter. Jake looks up.
JAKE
Are you okay?
VINCE
I'd be lying if I said I was.
JAKE
Is there anything I can do for you,
sir?
VINCE
(shaking his head)
No...
(beat)
What're you still doing here?
JAKE
Working for you, I guess. I don't
know how else to say it.
VINCE
(chuckling)
Nobody works for me anymore, Jake.
You don't have to stay here anymore
if you don't want to. I don't have
anything to give you.
JAKE
What happened to you?
Vince pauses, breathing deeply.
124.

VINCE
I don't wanna talk about it.
He pulls the joint out of his pocket.
VINCE (CONT'D)
You want this? It's the last of the
bunch.
JAKE
(shaking his head)
I quit last week. I don't need the
temptation.
VINCE
(smiling)
I admire that. Use that, get out of
here. There's no point in you
staying anyway.
Jake nods, putting the hubcap down.
JAKE
I guess I'll see you around, boss.
VINCE
(smiling weakly)
I wouldn't count on it.
Jake walks around the corner to the exit. He flips the CLOSED
sign facing the glass and opens the door, jingling the bell
as he exits.
Vince pauses for a moment. He walks around the counter and
opens the register. It pops open... completely EMPTY.
He chuckles to himself. The door bell RINGS again. Vince
turns--
CHRISTIAN TORREON and two men ENTER, guns brandished. Vince
holds his hands up in defeat, walking around the counter.
TORREON
Get on your knees, motherfucker!
He walks up close as Vince kneels, silent, looking at the
ground.
Torreon PUNCHES Vince, knocking him down to the ground. The
two men join in, KICKING HIM. Vince GRUNTS, not fighting
back, protecting his head and face.
125.

Torreon backs off, as do the others. One of the men pulls out
his gun and AIMS at Vince. Vince looks up at Torreon,
expressionless.
TORREON (CONT'D)
No! Look at him.
(beat, smiling)
He's already dead.
The men holster their guns. Torreon smiles at Vince and
TURNS, walking out the door as his men follow. The bell
JINGLES.
Vince waits for a moment, nose bleeding onto the ground. He
tentatively STANDS, wobbling.
He turns and walks over to the counter once more, reaching
underneath the cash register.
Vince pulls out a LIGHTER and takes the joint out of his
pocket, igniting it. He puts it to his lips and walks to the
back of the shop.

INT. WAREHOUSE, HALLWAY - MOMENTS LATER

Vince steps under the sliding metal gate, walking past his
office and down the hall, puffing on the joint.
He STOPS in front of the glass, observing the empty warehouse
where his employees once stood...
