ACTIVITY 1: TEMPERATURE SCALE CONVERSION

NAME: ______________________________________ SECTION: __________________________

 A temperature scale is a way to measure temperature relative to a starting point (0 or zero) and a unit of
measurement.
 There are 4 temperature scales Celsius, Kelvin, Fahrenheit, and Rankine
-Celsius, °C-metric temperature scale
-Fahrenheit, °F- customary (English) temperature scale
-Kelvin, K-metric absolute zero temperature scale
-Rankine, R- English absolute temperature scale
Comparing Temperature Scales (All temperatures listed are for water)
Freezing = 0°C = 273 K = 32°F
Boiling = 100°C = 373 K = 212°F

Conversions between scales

°F = 9/5°C + 32 = 1.8 x °C + 32
°C = 5/9 (°F – 32) = 0.56 (°F-32)
K = °C + 273 or °C = K – 273
Convert the following temperature scale. Answer should be two decimal places.
(Use colored marker for your answer, except color red)

a. 118 °F °C

b. 212 °F °C

c. 26 °C K

d. 9 °C °F

e. -12 °C °F

f. 145 °F °C

g. 90 °F °C

h. -50 °C K

i. -200 °F °C

j. 75 °C K

k. 200 K °C

l. -268 °C K

m. 405 °F °C

n. 112 K °C

o. -24 °C °F
