Intro Video Script

Hello my name is Irving Moses. I’m from Harlem, New York with a strong Caribbean

background, and some experience with educating youth through sports and mentorship.

So I believe I got into education because of my eighth teacher and one of my college

professors. My eighth grade teacher was the first educator to make the classroom fun

and engaging while challenging us and teaching us about life skills. My eighth grade

teacher Mr. Kelly was so impactful, empathetic, and knowledgeable. My college

professor Dr. Yale was very influential or encouraging as well. Dr. Yale actually

introduced me to the depths of what would later become my college major kinesiology.

He motivated me in the classroom, during athletics, and about life. I would later receive

my Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. I firmly believe that these educators are

responsible for why I’m in education today. Although I’m constantly searching for my

own teaching philosophy I studied both of them so much so that hopefully one day I can

be that impactful educator to encourage one of my students to be an educator as well. I

am currently a graduate student at Brooklyn College fulfilling my master’s degree in

Special Education. I have been working in education in some type of capacity for over

ten years with my last ten years of dedication serving young adolescents at an

alternative/transfer high school in Brooklyn. The school’s mission is to use sports to

educate, energize, and empower low credited teenagers in the classroom. Throughout

the years my main objectives were to instill the school’s core values(teamwork,

leadership, and communication) to create a safe and healthy environment for our youth
to learn. I realized that we as educators make better connections with our students when

we create a safe learning environment, foster meaningful relationships, be consistent,

model appropriate behaviors, meet our students where they are while exhibiting high

expectations and high support, and utilizing token economy to encourage positive

behavior/norms. I am writing to express my strong interest in Special Education as

advertised. My comprehensive experience as a Special Education Teacher, coupled with

roles in coaching, mentoring, and crisis intervention, has equipped me with a versatile

skill set aimed at creating a supportive and enriching educational environment.

Throughout my tenure as a teacher, I have demonstrated a commitment to fostering

inclusive learning experiences, implementing diverse teaching methodologies, and

nurturing the socio-emotional growth of my students.

My dedication to utilizing diverse teaching strategies, such as differentiating tasks,

employing restorative practices, and leading one-on-one conferences, reflects my

commitment to addressing individual student needs. My involvement in crisis

intervention and the Crisis Response Team, coupled with professional development in

mandated reporting and student restraint, underlines my commitment to student safety

and well-being.

Furthermore, my ability to create a safe environment, foster meaningful relationships,

and advocate for student development.
