Tell me about yourself, your professional and educational background

My name is Rhodora C. Altez, and I am 38 years old. I have a strong passion for education and
have dedicated the past 10 years to teaching in public schools.

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, formerly
known as Camarines Sur State Agricultural College. I pursued a Bachelor of Science in
Secondary Agricultural Education with a major in Chemistry, which provided me with a solid
foundation in both science and agriculture.

I have always been driven to further my knowledge and improve my teaching skills. As a result, I
recently completed my post-graduate studies and obtained a Master of Arts in Education with a
major in Science. This degree has enhanced my understanding of effective teaching
methodologies and deepened my knowledge of science education.

Currently, I am teaching science to students in grades 7, 8, and 10. Through my role as a science
teacher, I aim to inspire a love for scientific inquiry and critical thinking in my students. Additionally,
I am also involved in various extracurricular activities within the school community. I serve as the
guidance counselor designated, supporting students' socio-emotional well-being. I also take on
the responsibility of being the sports officer, promoting physical fitness and teamwork among
students. Lastly, I am the district cultural coordinator, organizing and participating in cultural
events and activities.
2. ANY EXPERIENCE BEING AN INTERNATIONAL TEACHER?
I don’t have any experience being an international teacher, and while I may not have direct
experience as an international teacher, my enthusiasm, adaptability, and dedication to education
make me well-suited for this exciting role. I am ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities
that come with being an international teacher, and I am eager to make a positive impact on the
lives of students in an international setting.
3. DESCRIBE 1-3 STRATEGIES YOU CAN USE TO MANAGE A DISRUPTIVE STUDENT WHO
INTERFERES WITH YOUR ABILITY TO TEACH THE OTHER STUDENTS.
I understand the importance of managing disruptive behavior to ensure a productive learning
environment for all students. Here are a few strategies I would employ to address a disruptive
student:

Firstly, I believe in open communication and building a positive teacher-student relationship. I

would take the time to privately talk to the disruptive student, expressing my concerns and seeking
to understand the underlying cause of their behavior. By showing empathy and offering support, I
can help the student feel heard and valued, which may reduce their disruptive tendencies.

Secondly, implementing clear and consistent classroom rules and expectations is crucial. By
establishing boundaries and consequences for disruptive behavior, I create a structured
environment where students understand the importance of mutual respect. For example, I might
have a behavior contract in place, outlining the expected conduct and the consequences if those
expectations are not met.

Lastly, I would explore individualized approaches to engage the disruptive student. By considering
their interests and strengths, I can tailor my lessons to capture their attention and make learning
more meaningful. This might involve incorporating hands-on activities, providing additional
challenges, or assigning leadership roles within group projects.

Through open communication, clear expectations, and individualized engagement, I aim to

manage disruptive behavior effectively and create a harmonious learning environment for all
students at ILTexas.
4. DO YOU HAVE AN IDEAL SCHOOL TO TEACH SHOULD YOU BE PLACED AT ILTEXAS?
As an educator, I don't have a specific ideal school in mind. However, I am confident that ILTexas
will place me in a school that aligns with my skills and abilities, as well as where my service is
greatly needed. I trust in ILTexas's expertise in matching teachers to schools, and I am excited
about the opportunity to make a meaningful impact wherever I am placed. Thank you for
considering me for this opportunity.
5. HOW TO HANDLE CONFLICTS BETWEEN PARENTS/COLLEAGUES
When it comes to handling conflicts with colleagues and parents, my approach has always been
rooted in open communication, empathy, and a genuine desire to find a resolution.

In my experience, conflicts can arise due to misunderstandings, differing perspectives, or

emotional reactions. When faced with a conflict, I make it a point to listen attentively and
understand the concerns of the other person. I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space
where they feel comfortable expressing themselves.

I put myself in their shoes, seeking to understand their perspective and the emotions they may be
experiencing. This helps me find common ground and work towards a mutually beneficial solution.

In handling conflicts with parents, I understand the deep care they have for their child's education
and well-being. I make a conscious effort to listen to their concerns, validate their feelings, and
involve them in the problem-solving process. This collaborative approach helps build trust and
strengthens the parent-teacher partnership.

With colleagues, I prioritize open and respectful communication. I seek to address conflicts directly,
discussing the issues at hand rather than allowing them to fester. By fostering an environment of
trust and openness, we can work together toward a resolution that benefits not only ourselves but
also our students.

educator and reinforced my belief in the transformative power of education. I am eager to continue
making a positive impact on the lives of students, wherever my teaching journey takes me next.
7. MEMORABLE TEACHING EXPERIENCE
One of my most memorable experiences as a teacher was when I conducted a volcano eruption
simulation using a dishwasher with my students. It was a hands-on activity that allowed them to
witness the power and excitement of scientific phenomena firsthand.

What made this experience truly special was seeing the love and passion for science ignite in my
students' eyes. Their genuine curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the simulation were contagious.
It was at that moment that I realized the impact a single engaging activity can have on shaping
students' interests and future paths.

environment for my students, wherever that may be.
10. WHAT GRADE LEVELS DO YOU PREFER TO TEACH AND WHAT SUBJECTS
As a science teacher, my passion lies in inspiring students to explore the wonders of the natural
world. When it comes to grade levels, I find joy and fulfillment in teaching middle school and high
school students. These formative years are a time of immense curiosity and growth, and I love
being a part of their educational journey during this crucial period.

Regarding subjects, I specialize in teaching various branches of science, including biology,

chemistry, and physics. Each subject offers its own unique opportunities for hands-on experiments,
critical thinking, and discovery. I believe in making science come alive for my students by
incorporating interactive demonstrations, real-world examples, and engaging discussions.

By fostering a love for science and providing a supportive learning environment, I aim to empower
my students to become lifelong learners and critical thinkers. It is my personal mission to instill in
them a deep appreciation for the scientific method and its application in our everyday lives.
11. WHAT WILL YOU DO ABOUT HOMESICKNESS
As an international teacher, I understand the importance of effectively managing homesickness
and challenges while working abroad.

To cope with homesickness, I will utilize technology to stay connected with my loved ones back
home. Regular video calls, emails, and social media will help bridge the distance and maintain a
strong connection.

In addition, I have developed various hobbies such as crocheting, reading, and cross-stitching that
will keep me engaged and provide a sense of comfort during my free time. These activities will not
only help me relax but also allow me to explore my creativity and find joy in my new surroundings.

Furthermore, I plan to enroll in a local gym to maintain my physical and mental well-being. Regular
exercise will not only help me stay fit but also provide an opportunity to meet new people and
integrate into the community.

Lastly, I am excited to discover the place where I will be assigned to teach. I will embrace the local
culture, explore the surroundings, and engage with the community. By immersing myself in the
local environment, I believe I will be able to develop a deeper connection and feel more at home.
