Reflection Paper

As a 31-year-old first-year education student, my views on the role of a teacher have

evolved over the years. Growing up, I saw my teachers as authority figures, responsible for
imparting knowledge and enforcing rules. It wasn't until I started working with children in
various capacities that I began to understand the true scope of a teacher's role.
To me, a teacher is more than just a dispenser of information. They are mentors, role
models, and advocates for their students. A good teacher can inspire and motivate their students,
to help them realize their full potential and achieve their dreams.
As I embark on my journey towards becoming a teacher, I aspire to be someone who not
only teaches, but also listens, supports, and encourages. I want to create a safe and inclusive
learning environment where all students feel valued and respected, regardless of their
background or abilities.
I believe that a teacher's role extends beyond the classroom. As educators, we have a
responsibility to be actively involved in our communities and to promote social justice and
equality. We must be advocates for our students, speaking out against discrimination and
inequality and working to create a more just and equitable society.
In addition to providing academic instruction, I believe that teachers should also provide
emotional support to their students. Many children today face challenges that can impact their
mental health and well-being, such as poverty, family breakdown, and social isolation. As a
teacher, I want to be someone who can provide a safe and supportive space where students feel
heard and validated, and where they can receive the emotional support they need to succeed.
As I progress through my education program, I am excited to learn about the various
theories and practices of teaching and to gain practical experience through field placements.
However, I am also aware that the role of a teacher is constantly evolving, and that I will need to
continue learning and growing throughout my career.
I am committed to staying up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in
education, and to continuously improving my teaching skills. I know that this will be a lifelong
journey, but I am eager to take on the challenge and make a positive impact on the lives of my
future students.
Generally, as a 31-year-old first-year education student, my understanding of the role of a
teacher has evolved. To me, a teacher is more than just a dispenser of information; they are
mentors, role models, and advocates for their students. As I pursue my dream of becoming a
teacher, I aspire to create a safe and inclusive learning environment where all students feel
