Country Pop
Country-pop (also known as pop-country or urban cowboy) is a fusion of country and pop music
created by members of the country genre in order to attract a wider audience. Country pop
music combines genres such as rock, pop, and country music, continuing attempts that began
in the late 1950s and were dubbed "Nashville sound" and then "Countrypolitan" at the time.
Many country musicians were shifting to the pop-country sound by the mid-1970s, which
resulted in some recordings peaking high on both the mainstream top 40 and the Billboard
country chart. As a result, several pops and easy listening musicians made the transition to
country music during this period.
