SAND SEGREGATION

PROCEDURE

1. Filled up the sand into the cylinder at the 2/3 height. Add
in the sand slowly but do not compact it.
2. Level the surface of the sand using the rod and record the
volume of the sand.

3. Remove the sand and carefully pour the sand into the tray
so that it will not be wasted.
4. Divide the sand into two portion evenly.

5. Fill up the measuring cylinder to an amount of 250ml


with water.
6. Fill the measuring cylinder with half of the sand that
have been seperated into two portion.
7. Fill in slowly and avoid compacting the sand.
8. Stir using the rod it to release the air content.

9. Stir the sand carefullly and avoid moving the


measuring cylinder place to place.
10. Rest the sand for about an hour before taking the
result/data.

11. Next, fill the balance of the remaining sand into


the measuring cylinder and stir.
12. Level the surface of the sand using the rod and
measure the Volume of the sand.
13. Repeat the above procedure to get the average of
bulking factor.
