Solenoid valves
Type PKVD 12 - 20

Introduction

PKVD solenoid valve is open at 0 bar differential systems, or in systems that are electronically
pressure, a characteristic that saves energy controlled by, for example, Danfoss ADAP-
costs. KOOL®.
PKVD is a normally open valve, and is designed PKVD is used in suction lines in refrigeration
for use in traditionally controlled refrigeration systems with hot gas defrosting.

Features • For all CFC, HCFC and HFC • Filter in pilot connection
• Minimal pressure drop with fully open valve • Internal relief passage
• Large range of coils for a.c. and d.c. − i.e. no risk of external leakage.

• Can be installed in vertical / horizontal • Solder connections up to 1 5/8 in.

Correction factors
When sizing valves, the plant capacity must be
multiplied by a correction
factor depending on liquid temperature
tl ahead of valve/evaporator.
When the corrected capacity is known, the
selection can be made from the table.

Hot gas defrosting Heat recovery

With hot gas defrosting it is not normally possible The following is given:
to select a valve from condensing temperature tc Refrigerant = R 22
and evaporating temperature te. Evaporating temperature te = – 30°C
This is because the pressure in the evaporator Condensing temperature tc = + 40°C
as a rule quickly rises to a value near that of the Hot gas temperature ahead of valve th = + 85°C
condensing pressure. It remains at this value Heat recovery condenser yield Qh = 8 kW
until the defrosting is finished. The capacity table for R 22 with tc = + 40°C gives
In most cases therefore, the valve will be the the capacity for an EVR 10 as 8.9 kW, when
selected from condensing temperature tc and pressure drop ∆p is 0.2 bar.
pressure drop ∆p across the valve, as shown in The correction factor for te = – 30°C is given in
the example for heat recovery. the table as 0.94.
The correction for hot gas temperature
th = + 85°C has been calculated as 4% which
corresponds to a factor of 1.04.
Qh must be corrected with factors found:
With ∆p = 0.2 bar is
Qh = 8.9 x 0.94 x 1.04 = 8.7 kW.
With ∆p = 0.1 bar, Qh becomes only
6.3 x 0.94 x 1.04 = 6.2 kW.
An EVR 6 would also be able to give the required
capacity, but with ∆p at approx. 1 bar.
The EVR 6 is therefore too small.
The EVR is so large that it is doubtful whether
the necessary ∆p of apprx. 0.1 bar could be
obtained.
An EVR 15 would therefore be too large.
Result: An EVR 10 is the correct valve for the
given conditions.

Solenoid valves
Type EVRC 10 ® 20 - NC

Introduction EVRC is a servo operated solenoid valve for use

in liquid lines in refrigeration plant.

EVRC allows flow in both directions and can

therefore be used in liquid lines in refrigeration
plant with hot gas or gas defrost.

During the refrigeration period EVRC works as a

normal solenoid valve, while during the defrost it
allows the condensed liquid to return to the liquid
manifold.

During the defrosting period coil for EVRC must

be energized.

Technical data Refrigerants Capacity

CFC, HCFC, HFC. The capacity of the valve depends on the flow
direction, see kv values from the table.
Temperature of medium
−40 → +105°C with 10 W or 12 W coil. See extended capacity tables as for EVR
(data sheet RD3AD).

Stainless steel solenoid valves
Type EVRS 3 ® 20 and EVRST 10 ® 20

Introduction EVRS and EVRST are valves made of stainless

steel.

EVRS 3 is direct operated.

EVRS 10, 15 and 20 are servo operated.

EVRST 10,15 and 20 are forced servo operated
valves used in liquid, suction, hot gas and oil
return lines with ammonia or fluorinated
refrigerants.

EVRS 3 and EVRST are designed for keeping

open at a pressure drop of 0 bar.
EVRS and EVRST are supplied as components,
i.e. valve body and coil must be separately
ordered.

EVRS/EVRST 10, 15 and 20 are equipped with

spindel for manual opening.

Features • Stainless steel valve body and connections • Designed for temperatures of media
up to 105°C
• Suitable for applications where high hygiene
is required • Wide choice of a.c. and d.c. coils

• Used for ammonia and all fluorinated

refrigerants

of valve tl = +25°C, and pressure drop across valve ∆p = 0.15 bar.
Rated hot gas capacity is based on condensing temperature tc = +40°C, pressure drop across valve ∆p = 0.8 bar, hot
gas temperature th = +60°C, and subcooling of refrigerant ∆tsub = 4 K.

Coils for solenoid valves

Introduction The coils are specially designed to operate in the

aggressive environment of high humidity and
temperature fluctuations that you find in most
refrigeration systems.

The new Clip-on fastening system ensures a

faultless installation and makes the coils easy to
mount and dismount. A Danfoss Clip-on coil can be
mounted without any tools at all, and it is simple to
dismount the coil by means of a screwdriver.

The Clip-on coils are available for the entire range

of Danfoss solenoid valves for refrigeration,
freezing and air conditioning purposes.

Features • Encapsulated coils with long operating life, • Standard coils from 12 V to 420 V, 50, 60
even under extreme conditions or 50/60 Hz

• Standard coils for a.c. or d.c. • Standard coils dimensioned for max. opening
differential pressure (MOPD) of up to 21 bar
• Standard coils available with 3-core cable,
terminal box or DIN plugs • Coils can be fitted without the use of tools
