Instrument Lesson Plan : Lady Bug

Title: ladybug

Grade Level: elementary school

Materials Needed:

- a wide variety of instruments, enough for each student

- A stuffed ladybug (can be exchanged with a different stuffed animal)

Procedure:

A.S:

1.) Have students stand up and get into a line

2.) Hand each students an instrument, remind students “you get what you get, and you don't throw a

fit”

3.) Have students show you what it means to play the instruments fast, and what it sounds like if you

play your instrument slow

4.) Call on each student to play a note of their instrument, ask the class after they play a note or two,

“does this instrument make a high or low sound?”

5.) Students should be able to identify if they are a high or low, “Raise your hand if you are a low

instrument, raise your hand if you are a high instrument “

6.) Bring out a stuffed ladybug. A student will hide the lady bug somewhere in the classroom, assign

a student who will find the lady bug. Excuse that student to stand somewhere against the wall and

close their eyes

7.) The student can choose between three options, high/low, fast/slow, loud soft

8.) When the student gets closer to the lady bug the class will play high/fast/loud. The farther the

student is from the lady bug the class will play low/slow/soft.
9.) The student will try and find the lady bug based on how the class plays their instruments For

example: if a student chooses fast/slow, the closer they are to the ladybug the faster the class will

play, the farther she is away from the ladybug the slower the class will play
