ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The satisfaction and euphoria that accomplishes the successful
completion of any task would be incomplete without the mention of the people
who make it possible.
A trolley is the main transport for humans to carry loads. Every trolley has different uses
and specific uses. It is limited to doing other job than the specified job. There are some
disadvantages for common trolleys such as don’t have stopper, load easy to fall due to
slippery surface only suitable for flat road, hard to cornering, cannot load many things,
unstable for heavy duty work, high force needed to push or pull the trolley. To reduce this
problem, one new trolley will be developed that has multipurpose and has not limited to do
another task or job. Nowadays, people use trolleys to carry heavy loads. There are many
types of trolley in the market like industrial trolley, drum truck trolley and platform truck
trolley. Many trolleys have been developed with a specific task or job like shopping trolley
which can be used only for shopping and transporting tray trolley only to carry trays. In the
fabrication, there are many processes involved developing the product such as grinding,
joining, measuring, gathering material, cutting material, and finishing process. This project
is about design and fabricates a new product of trolley that has multi-function. The trolley
maximum loads must 80kg, multi-use and easy assemble. Its also must reduce the
disadvantages of the trolley in the current market like have stopper, and able to lift items
up the stairs. Trolley was achieving the objective of this project. The Multipurpose Trolley
can function in good condition for example it can support 80kg load and the Trolley can
climb the upstairs.
The foldable trolley is design according to the existing market demand and to fulfill the
criteria of customer needs. The design of this foldable trolley considers durability, easy to
use, and ergonomic factor. The concept of the foldable trolley will be more innovation
from the existing product special for Asians user. The selection of suitable materials for
this fabrication of folding cart is a loaded material which has minimum weight and can
detain heavy load. Materials are proposed for the fabrication of cart is mild steels. This
Foldable trolley is equipped by using all necessary items and methods for instance hollow
mild steel, wheels, skills in manufacturing processes, metal inert gas (MIG) welding to join
the parts, drilling and also mechanical fasteners. This folding cart would be entirely
different from existing trolley.

INTRODUCTION
A trolley is the main transport for humans to carry loads. Every trolley has
different uses and specific uses. It is limited to doing other job than the specified
job. There are some disadvantages for common trolleys such as don’t have
stopper, load easy to fall due to slippery surface only suitable for flat road, hard to
cornering, cannot load many things, unstable for heavy duty work, high force
needed to push or pull the trolley. In the fabrication, there are many processes
involved to develop the product such as grinding, joining, measuring, gathering
material, cutting material, and finishing process. This project is about designing
and fabricating a new trolley product that has multi-functional products. A trolley is
an equipment used to move heavy loads from one place to another. It can reduce
the human burden in their daily lives. This device is commonly used by many
industries to transport physical products. Trolleys are often used by those who
organize and stock merchandise in retail stores restock. When used properly,
trolleys can protect people from having back injuries and other health problems
that can result from lifting and carrying heavy loads. An innovative concept of two
in one facility has been conceived and is being implemented. New product
development is an extremely challenging and complex process. Innovation is
naturally uncertain, and firms may invest considerable time and money in new
product ideas with no guarantee that they will ever become commercially feasible
Product development involves either improving an existing product or its
presentation with some modifications or developing a new product as per the
requirements of a particular market segments. To keep up with changes and
trends in the marketplace it is necessary for the companies to develop the product
consistently to ensure their success and future profitability.
Lightweight design is a major requirement in the development of many products.
Foldable trolleys, for example, have been widely used at various sites by a range of
users. Their main structures are primarily made of steel and aluminum, whereas
the load-boards are usually non-porous and made of polyethylene or metals.
Generally, after the trolley is folded, the volume range of the width of the board
still occupies the storage space. Therefore, to satisfactorily optimize designs, in
terms of the weight and performance constraints, the volume and lightness of the
product’s minimum compliance system are gradually becoming a concern. When a
laminated composite plate was subjected to a dynamic load-induced over vibration,
high translocation, and acceleration, its structural properties were severely
degraded. Therefore, a simulation was conducted of the static, modal, and
transient structures, based on the finite-element method (FEM), to determine the
loading status. With some improvements to the trolley structure, a side-suspended
trolley, suspended on two girders, was developed. Based on the FEM, it was found
that the improved trolley satisfied the strength and rigidity standards. Finite
element analysis (FEA) was used to determine the static and dynamic response of
the components under different load conditions. According to the structure and
characteristics of the material, the stress and deformation were analyzed, and the
maximum deformation was obtained. Through the modeling and simulation of a
bicycle frame, it is known from the maximum stress and displacement that, after
the structural optimization, the rigidity is improved and the total deformation is
reduced. Motion simulation was used to study the structural properties of a trolley
by using the software ANSYS to investigate the stress and fatigue of a trolley
subjected to a given loading. Application-related parameters, such as the total
deformation, stress ratio, and strain, were obtained to analyze the fatigue lifetime,
which was shown by the simulations to be far longer than standard, thereby
indicating an optimal design. Significant positive correlations can, generally, be
observed between material and structure. To reduce the weight of a structure,
designers usually fabricate holes at specific sites on the plates in the structure, as
long as the structural support capability is not affected. Under a strength
constraint on the plates, most of the plates that were produced had a high
porosity, specific surface area, and an open cell rate that allowed the products to
exhibit the best performance. The perforated board withstood changes in load and
support conditions, greatly reducing local buckling and strengthening the fatigue
resistance of the material.
lower plate with a porous surface, the pressure distribution and load carrying
capacity were also increased when the surface roughness of the upper plate was
increased. Based on the consideration of a lighter body structure, and with
sufficient load-carrying capacity, changing the solid gear to a lattice structure
observed not only a reduction in the weight but also reduced the vibrations
significantly. A loading analysis of a honeycomb-like, bidirectionally hollow thin
plate using ANSYS was performed, and it was found that such a plate had a higher
loading capability and better plastic deformation characteristics than a solid plate.
The structural optimizations that were performed on this basis significantly
increased the stiffness of the bicycle frame, thus reducing its deformations. The
buckling response of square composite plates with elliptical holes in the center
was studied, and it was found that large elliptical holes generated a pressure
under the thinnest plate, indicating that, to prevent buckling that may be generated
under a relatively low stress, large elliptical holes should be avoided on composite
laminated plates .This study is based on a reported improvement of the trolley
structure, in which the trolleys are foldable on two sides to reduce the collapsed
volume . Briefly, porous foldable boards were built, and a structurally improved
trolley was designed. Then, an FEM-based engineering simulation approach was
employed to simulate the static structural properties and transient structural
motions of the trolley.

LITERATURE SURVEY
Research paper 1: Development of multipurpose trolley
• As the trolley designed for multiple uses especially for two field applications
viz.
• Airport and shopping mall as described above; additional cart of wire frame
structure is provided with the attachment as an additional accessory.
• The handle can be removed by opening the nut-bolts provided at the side so
that in future it can be remodify with electronic controls.
• The cart is over hanged at one end; hence the design looks aesthetically
good at the same time the cart is attached with the help of hooks on the
side vertical frame.
FUTURE SCOPE
· The trolley can be designed with PLC controls so that it can move from one place
to another without any human guidance.
· The automatic billing system can also be added to this design to reduce the
queue issues in a shopping mall.
· The weight of the loaded products can be reflected on the trolley itself so that
customer will come to know how much luggage he/she is carrying. It will become
easier for the customers, especially when used at the airport.
· The same design and concept can be modified with fully folded feature to
reduce the space consumption.
· Sensors can be provided at the handle which sense the human touch and
operates the trolley automatically.
