Pre-Colonial Literature:
Slang is used between people who belong to the same social group. Meanwhile, colloquial language is
the informal language used by people in everyday speech.
Ex:
What’s up?, How's it going with ‘ya? Wat'cha doin' this week?
The difference between slang and colloquial language are colloquial is more accepted and used
generally by most people.
Writing purposes:
1. Expressing – The writer's purpose or goal is to put thoughts and feelings on the page.
2. Entertaining – Is often used with some other purpose – To explain, Argue, or inform in a
humorous way.
3. Informing – is to inform the most common form of this is journalistic writing.
4. Explaining – The writer's purpose is to gather facts or opinions and combine it with his or her
own knowledge.
5. Arguing – Attempts to convince it’s audience to believe or influence them to act in a certain way.
There are several key features:
• A focus on one or more of the four types of claims, claim of fact, claim of cause and effect, claim of
policy, and claim of value.
• A fair representation of opposing arguments combined with arguments against the opposition and
for the overall claim.
6. Persuading – it ignores rules and try any strategy that might work. The best form of persuading
is advertisement. The main reason is to influence weather it’s real or not.
7. Evaluating – writing to evaluate a person etc.
8. Problem solving – Problem solving is a special kind of arguing essay.
