Chapter #1 – What, Where, How and When?
I. Define:
1. Manuscript: It refers to old documents written by hand.
2. Inscription: These are writings on relatively hard surfaces such as stone or metal.
3. Archaeology: The scientific study of material remains (such as tools, pottery,
jewellery, stone walls and monument).
4. Historian: Scholars who study and write about the past.
II. Question and Answers:
1. List one major difference between Manuscripts and Inscriptions.

Ans: Men and women did not generally keep records due to the following
reasons: a. They did not know the importance of keeping records of the
events. b. They did not know the art of writing in the beginning.
4. Describe at least two ways in which you think the lives of kings would
have been different from those of farmers.
Ans: a. The kings used to live in palace or big houses. The farmers used to
live in huts or small houses.
b. The king’s main responsibility was to protect his subjects, while farmer’s
main responsibility was to produce food grains.
