4 Conclusion
At the culmination of this research, we achieved a deep understanding of the
challenges and opportunities surrounding improving English communication skills
for Hanoi Pedagogical University 2. Multifaceted nature of language acquisition
and development becomes apparent as we draw insights from different aspects of
our research.
Our findings, as summarized in the previous sections, have important
implications for modern higher education. It is clear that improving English
communication skills is not simply an academic purpose; it is an essential life skill
with implications beyond the classroom. As today's students prepare to enter an
increasingly connected and globalized world, the ability to communicate
effectively in English becomes paramount.
One of the most striking observations from our study was the differences in
students' practice habits. While a significant number engage in daily practice, a
significant portion still practice less frequently. This difference emphasizes the
need for educators to promote consistent and structured practice beyond the
classroom environment.
Our research also sheds light on the important role of students' interests in
shaping effective language learning strategies. The popularity of activities such as
watching English films or television shows, along with reading English literature,
emphasizes the value of engaging with the language in a deep and enjoyable way.
Recognizing and integrating these activities into the curriculum can make language
learning not only effective but also engaging.
Perhaps one of the most profound findings from our research is the issue of self-
confidence. Students' confidence in their English speaking ability is the foundation
of effective communication. While the majority expressed moderate levels of trust,
a significant portion reported lower levels of trust. This finding highlights the
importance of fostering a learning environment that not only nurtures language
skills but also strengthens self-confidence. It is in this atmosphere that students can
freely express themselves and engage in authentic communication, overcoming the
fear of making mistakes.
Furthermore, our study highlights the challenges students face when
understanding and expressing themselves in English. Difficulty understanding
native speakers and limited vocabulary are two obstacles that require specific
intervention. By addressing these challenges, educators can empower students to
communicate more effectively in a diverse and interconnected world.
Going forward, our study suggests several promising avenues for further
research. Exploring the design and implementation of interventions to address the
challenges identified in our study can provide valuable insights into effective
teaching methods. The role of technology and digital resources in language
learning and the impact of cultural and intercultural factors on the development of
communication skills remain rich areas of research. Furthermore, studying the
effectiveness of different pedagogical approaches in promoting language learners'
self-confidence and self-esteem represents a promising direction for research.
In short, our research journey has illuminated the path to improving English
communication skills for contemporary university students. These findings
encapsulate not only the challenges but also the aspirations of students as they
strive to become proficient communicators. By addressing these challenges,
fostering a supportive learning environment, and taking advantage of the
opportunities available in language education, we pave the way for a generation of
students well prepared to navigate the world. A world of complexity and
connection awaits them. In our pursuit of effective communication, we find the
gateway to empowerment and success.
