 Every substance, defined as a formed matter, moves

according to a fixed path toward its aim.

 This telos is intricately linked with function. Man is

bound to achieve a life of fulfillment and happiness or
in Greek, eudaimonia. All men move toward this final
end.

Eudaimonia- happiness and welfare, it means

finding your core purpose.

functional than the others.  Artists create to reinforce a shared sense of
identity of community, or civilization.
 Architecture and Applied Arts are highly
functional. A building is obviously made for a specific
purpose.

Ex. The Taj Mahal, a massive mausoleum of white marble

built in Agra was constructed in memory of the favorite
wife of the emperor Shah Jahan.

 Paintings, poems, and statues are arts that basically

points toward the direction of the product or its
function. One looks at the value of art in itself and not
because of what it can do and benefit us.

 Function is important that it has usurped the name of

the art on the identification of individual works and
designed to accomplish some definite end.

 Functions of art are classified to: personal, social

and physical.

 It is another functional art form that has long
existed for various purposes. In Aristotelian worldview, art serves 2 particular purposes.

 It was made by man most particularly for religion. 1. Art allows for the experience of pleasure (a

of sculpting functions. ART AS A DISINTERESTED JUDGEMENT

to other people, art communicates emotions.

 As a purveyor of man’s innermost feelings and

a mechanism for social unity.
