I. Objectives:
 Identify the meaning of the new word that when added with suffixes –less means “without”, -ful
means “full of”, -able means “capable of/can be” –ible means “able to be”
 Give the meaning to the new word formed that is added by a suffixes –less; -ful;-ible, or –able;
 Differentiate meaning of words added by suffixes –less and –ful; -ible, and –able; and
 Use suffixes and root words as clues to get the meaning of words.

III. Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activity
1. Review/drill:
Look for the words with prefixes in each sentence. Write your answers inside the column by
identifying the prefix and the root word then give the meaning.
1. I was unable to write down the number of the car.
2. The new owner plans to rebuild the franchise.
3. Alarm system had been disconnected.

2. Motivation:

B. Lesson Proper
1. Presentation
Let us read a story. In the story, try to understand the meaning of the underlined words.

One morning, Rose, Luz, and Noemi were playing in a peaceful garden. They looked energetic
and cheerful. They were laughing when a toothless and fearless old man approached them.
The old man asked them for food. They gave the old man food in a disposable but durable
container. Because the children were kind and approachable, the old man felt an incredible
feeling towards them. He was so thankful for their generosity.

 Suffix is a syllable added at the beginning of the root word? or at the end?
 Does the meaning of the word change when we add the syllable at the end? Why? The prefix
un, im, and dis, mean “not.”
