The old age home’s company and its sphere of influence:
FAK. E.V. is a nursing company based on dealing with old and
sick people. It has locations all around Essen, including in
Krawehl street near Philharmonie and Bocholder street near
Holsterhausen. It also has few nursing station. The place I
was specifically at was called FAK. E.V. Emscherblick.

The location (of the center I was at): It is located in, Hessler
street, Altenessen, the north of Essen close to Gelsenkirchen.
The area surrounding it has a lot of trees and plants, there
are cut-outs of gnomes, etc. There is a tram station next to it,
the trams U11 travel through here, one in the direction of
Messe Gruga and the other in the direction of Gelsenkirchen.
The residents sometimes use this to travel to the mall or far
distances. There is also a super market a few metres away,
Penny, where the residents go and buy basic supplies, and
the workers go to buy replacements for cleaning liquids,
toilet papers, etc. Some workers also buy cigarettes from
here. The place in general is surrounded by many houses and
flat complexes.
Fears: Honestly, who needs a job, with drop shipping and
affiliate marketing bringing in thousands of dollars needing
little work. So for a long time I maintained the thought that I
would be fine without a job. So at the time of Praktikum I was
clueless. I ended up getting an internship at an old age home
as a nurse. I didn’t know how big the workplace would be, if
my colleagues were nice and respectful. And most
importantly what impression I would leave in the minds of
the elderly there. I didn’t know what activities I would be
given, and if I would be able to do them all the way through.
Since I am not fluent in German, I was worried if I would be
able to follow all the instructions given to me or understand
all the procedures or instruct someone appropriate
directions to do something.

Expectations:
I expected the building to be like an apartment complex with
individual flats for each of the residents.
I really expected someone or the other to get confused of a
sentence I say daily or every other day.
I expected my colleagues to get annoyed at me, since I am
temporary. I expected chores like handing over medication,
cleaning toilet seats (with gloves), etc. I also expected some
sort of welcome from old people (not all) because they are
generally nice. I expected old people in old age homes (most)
to do activities by themselves and not be overly dependent. I
expected some impulsive comments, because old people can
be judgemental at times according to my experiences. I
expected another person doing a Praktikum here. I expected
the flats to be decorated with antique, pictures of
grandchildren/children, etc. I expected the manager to be
strict and keep me full time aka 8 hours since it deals with old
people. I expected myself to be extremely exhausted after
the 2nd day.

The building itself: It has about 4 floors (including the ground

floor). The top floor has about 4 rooms like a bathroom with
tub and a room with medicines and cleaning equipment. It
also has a terrace where the residents meet up to grill discuss
about events. At the ground floor, there are about 3
bathrooms, the principal’s office, a cafeteria; where the
residents come to eat their meals; a storage room for drinks,
etc. and a worker’s café where tablets, medical records of
residents are kept. In the remaining two floors are the
individual rooms of the residents.

A typical 7 days at a nursing/ old age home:

Day 1: First, I was greeted by Martina who was the person in
charge (principal) of this place who later introduced me to
Nadine (my supervisor) , a student who was practicing
nursing care here. I followed her to Mr. Streuer’s room. Mr.
Scheuer was a quirky man, he greeted me warmly and asked
me where I was from and told me his experience with India.
We helped him get up from his bed. Then Nadine removed
plugs from his stomach attached to 2 bags filled with urine.
Next, I removed his (one time use) panties and put it in the
dustbin, after that I took the dustbin cover and tied it and
placed it outside. Then Nadine gave him an injection pen,
which he clicked twice. And then I handed him a piece of
tissue with which he wiped of his blood. Then, Nadine took
back the instrument and checked his blood sugar amount
and recorded it on a book. Then Nadine put on new panties
through his legs and removed his clothes and took out a blue
sack from a small cupboard and placed them in. Then I picked
up a pant that was already there on an armchair and gave it
to Nadine, she helped him wear them. Then we went
towards the cafeteria, where we were greeted by a lot of old
people. Today’s speciality was a bunch of bread, with
sausage/jam and coffee. The cafeteria was divided into two
halves, one with 4 sets of tables, 3 with just one table
designed for 4 people to sit and one with 4-er tables put
together and the other half, with one 4-er table and one 8-er
table set. Many needed help pouring cola or coffee in their
glasses, I helped get glasses from a cupboard and poured it
for most of them. Then Nadine went to the worker’s café and
got daily tablets for the cafeteria. The tablets were in boxes
with 5 compartments each for one day. The names and last
names were written with permanent marker on the sides of
the boxes. Then Nadine opened the suitable compartment
from each of the boxes and put the tablets in a small blue
bucket with a white lid. I helped to distribute these buckets
to the suitable people. Then we went to Mrs. Grave’s (Petra)
room, Nadine took out a button from this box and clicked on
Ms. Grave’s arm, then Petra was handed over a measuring
tool which had a timer set for 60 minutes after which she
supposedly had to see her glucose level. Then Nadine and I
took a 5 minute break outside, where Nadine smoked. This is
where Mrs. Paulus (Ursula) usually sits. After that we went to
the workers café, and Khadija, an employee (another nurse)
gave me a sipping cup and told me to give to someone called
Axel in the terrace. I was at firs confused at first because the
words she used to ask me were too complex but she also
mentioned about someone called Michaela who would know
hat to do. So I went up to the terrace which had several
tables joint together and chairs arranged around it, and saw a
woman at the first chair, I asked her who she was, she told
she was Michaela and gave her the cup and came back down.
Nadine and Khadija were just filling up documents so I
waited. After that I had lunch break, after I came back we
went back to Mr. Scheuer’s room and he had a stocking,
where he kept a urine packet. Nadine adjusted the urine
packet correctly and gave him an injection in his stomach
(insulin for diabetes). Later o we went to Carmen Estourte’s
room, Carmen needed bot her legs to be wrapped so that
water reaches parts of the legs. The equipment used for this
is a reddish cast cloth wraps, white stockings and 4 straps of
stickers. The cast rap were not rolled properly, so we
unrolled the raps and rolled them evenly. Then Nadine put a
white stocking on Carmen’s left leg up to her lower thigh and
asked me to hold the end of the stocking tightly. Then she
wrapped two rolls of cast cloth, big first and small next
around Carmen’s full leg (including feet, except her toes and
leaving soe portion of the stocking on her thigh), then she
took a sticker and stuck it after she was done with the small
roll, then she folded the stocking from the end and from her
thigh and folded it on top. She continued this with the
second leg. Then Nadine went back to documenting. Then
later I went to the Cafeteria, and Nadine showed up with
Christa who wanted to walk around the old age home. Well I
agreed and we g for a walk, Christa was shy and didn’t talk at
first (that’s what came up to my mind) well then she started
talking about this experience of hers, and then she didn’t
want to walk more and I left her at her room. Sometime
later, I was asked to clean the tables, etc. which I did. Then it
was 15:00, I sat at a chair cluelessly, and this lady called
Annaliese asked me if I wanted to play Mensch Ärgere Dich
nicht.. I agreed. We were joined by Wolfgang, Wolle and
Renate (who was sort of the referee). I ended up losing,
Wolle and Annaliese killed all of my coins and it was too late
when I rolled six once again, Annaliese won. Later on,
Annaliese took me to her room which was filled with teddy
bears and stuffed animals. She told me her story and why she
was here. And how each of her stuffed animals were called.
We talked for some more time, and I went down.. I stayed for
a bit more and when it hit about 16:00 I came back home.

Reflection: I felt the old people were extremely picky, in

reality they are not. Although some had a teeny temper,
which was seen while I played something wrongly at the
Mensch Ärgere Nicht. But that is something many adults I
knew had. I felt that my colleagues would find me annoying
but they didn’t, they were super nice. I don’t know if another
person were doing their Praktikum here like I was, because I
was the only kid there. I thought the first day would be
hectic, honestly it was… I felt super tired walking up and
down to different people’s rooms continuously. I thought I
wouldn’t be able to understand what most people would say
to me there, which sometimes yes, but not always. But the
colleagues don’t usually take it seriously that someone
doesn’t understand something and in fact simplify what they
said. And the manager was not at all strict, she seemed witty
and funny. Most people were also enthusiastic about me.

Faculty: There are two caretakers, Nicole and a tall woman.

There is a man that cooks for the old people and a woman
who also helps with cooking and cleans vessels, etc. Other
than Nadine, there is Khadija who is also a nurse. In the
evening, a lady with a red bun comes.

Day 2: Today I went to Mr.Streur’s room once again, where

Nadine once again disposed the urine from the urine packet.
I threw his panties again in the bin and tied the cover. Since
today is a Tuesday, normally, dirty clothes in each person’s
room are put in a blue/yellow sac which is collected by a
care-taker to be put for washing. As a result, I tied the blue
sac which contained Heinz Streuer’s dirty clothes. And then,
put it in front of his door. Then, Nadine gave him two shots
his stomach and then recorded his blood sugar level. I later
on collected many sacs and took them to a silver
wheelbarrow which is where they will e collected from. Then
we went downstairs, and Petra came once again. She needed
help carrying her food upstairs, I helped her again. Then,
Nadine and I went to Axel who needed to be cleansed. I
helped to cleanse Axel. Then Nadine told me to bring a tool
to sweep away water, I had difficulty understanding that.. but
eventually, I managed to find something. And then, after
that, Nadine wiped Axel and we headed downstairs, where
Nadine once again distributed tablets and I poured water for
whoever needed them in order to swallow. Then we went to
the terrace, were Michaela was sitting around talking to the
folks. Nadine cut Renate’s nails and file them, I helped set up
the sheet. I sat next to Axel, who wouldn’t sit down, he
would always try to stand up from a chair. Nextly, Michaela
who was also a caretaker asked me to clean the tables, which
I did. And then I had lunch break, I came back and helped
bringing drinks for the residents, etc. And then, I sat for a
while and watched TV at the cafeteria. Then, the tables
needed to be cleansed again and I did. Then Nadine and I
headed to Petras room, where Nadine put a button against a
Petra’s arm in order to measue glucose level in a period of an
hour. Then we went to Frank’s room which was plain but was
filled with German music… and Frank was building stuff from
legos, and Nadine gave Frank some tablets which he needed
to take in. Then after that, Nadine thought how to document,
when someone was at the doctors and till when and the
medicaments they were taking. After sometime, Nadine left
and I went back to the living room, where Michaela asked me
to fill Coffee kettles, which I did and distributed among the
tables. Then, I sat for a while with the residents and then the
dishwasher stopped, and Lillian, also a nurse (on night duty)
was arranging the dishes with which I helped. Then I left once
the clock hit 4pm.

Reflection: I didn’t play Mensch Ärgere Dich Nicht.. like last

time. but people yet greeted me like they did last time.
Today was much easier than yesterday because I know what
to expect from this place.

Day 3 (highlights): We went to Herr. Streuer and Nadine gave

him to shots on his finger and recorded glucose level ; I
handed him a paper to wipe of the blood. We next went to
Carmen, where Nadine casted her legs and I helped hand
over the tape strips and fold her stockings. Nadine distribute
tablets. I brought Petra’s plate up to her room. I saw many
colourful drawings, etc. I also brought up her tablets. While I
was sitting at the smoking break, Gitti (a resident) asked me
why I was here, and I told her why. At about 10am, Michaela
would read the newspaper to the elders. She asked what
date it was, I replied 15, without knowing it was the elders
that should be the ones to answer. And she asked them the
spelling of different words. Nadine during this was cutting
Birgit Schillo’s nails next to me. After that, I helped her put
the napkin for keeping nails at one area in the dustbin and
carry her chair back to a room (which we took our chairs
from). I cleaned the tables once again. And Nadine and I went
to Herr. Streuer where Nadine gave him two shots of insolin,
she also gave this to Petra. And this time I started reading
when I had free time. Then I was greeted by a man wearing
glasses. I guess he was like the landlord of the place. And
before going home, I helped Lillian organise dishes, etc. in
the cafeteria. I also met Huria who cleans the floors, etc.

Day 4 (highlights): We went to Herr Streuer again, did his bed

and so on. Today, Khadija was sick so Nadine had to do some
of Khadija’s work too. Nadine had to clean Christa. Christa
unlike Axel could clean herself, and just needed instructions.
Nadine gave Christa instructions like clean your face and
close your eyes. And I also gave instructions like clean your
legs and armpits. Next, I helped her wear socks, etc. Nadine
helped her wear her brasserie and her T shirt. Nadine also did
her hair by French braiding it. We couldn’t find Christa’s
shoes, so I looked at Norbert’s room who was Christa’s
boyfriend. And then later on I found them at a casket above
one of Christa’s cupboards. Nadine casted Carmen once
again but this time after checking her pulse and rate of blood
flow. Nadine used a sphygmometer which had a stethoscope,
a clock like thing and a wrap, Nadine put the wrap around
one of Carmen’s arm and then put the stethoscope ends on
her ears and watched the clock thing. When an arm in the
clock like thing increased, she marked a digit down. And then
she removed the wrap and rearranged the sphygmometer on
its case and then, she put her fingers around Carmen’s wrist,
and read Carmen’s pulse from her apple watch (which I guess
has a tool to measure your pulse), and exclaimed, ,,wie eine
junge Frau”. I helped Petra carry her breakfast and tablets
upstairs. I cleaned the tables and set up fork, knives, etc once
again. Today, I cleaned Frank’s wheelchair with a bucket with
soap and water, and a towel. Wolle (Wolfgang, a resident)
needed Movikol (a syrup) while we were in the terrace. I also
met Inge (also a nurse practician) today. I also took Axel on a
walk.

Reflection: While cleaning Frank’s wheelchair I rushed

through the work, so I ended up spilling some water at his
bathroom for which I had to clean the mess with toilet paper.
And Frank advised me to take things slower even if it were
the end of the world. Frank was a nice individual who shared
me his story. And while I took Axel on a walk, I learned that,
he didn’t have a favourite flower, and his favourite animal
was the dog. I also learned that there was another kid doing
her Praktikum here, but in the other half of the center (which
had different old people, etc).

Day 5 (highlights): We went to Streuer today as well and

Nadine gave him two shots and measured his glucose. This
time at the cafeteria, Marlies (a resident) wanted food to be
served for her, well I helped her. She wanted Schmierwurst
and butter to be spread on two halves of a bread, I didn’t
understand it well so I applied the spread wrongly (both as
butter), then I asked someone what ,,Schmierwurst”, then
Inge showed me what it was. Then I spread it on one of the
bread slices and made black tea for Marlies. Gitti asked me
about why I was here once again, and pointed out my
moustache (which I found extremely funny) and asked about
my two ropes around both of my hands. I told her. I helped
carry Petra’s plate upstairs once again and brought her
tablets to her again. A resident needed rovitol. Then, I helped
feed Axel by putting food pieces in his mouth. He wouldn’t
sit, but stand continuously, then I told him that he couldn’t
change the past but only the present. Then he sat calmly. I
cleaned the table once again. I cleaned the tables and put the
necessary utensils. I took Axel on a walk and I asked him
whether he liked cars, what type of houses he liked. He
answered yes and he liked flats. Then later on, I took Axel to
his room, where he wouldn’t sit. And when I tried to bring
him away from a sitting place, he immediately sat (floor)
thinking there was a chair behind him. I tried making him
stand, which I did by instructing him to hold on the legs of his
bed which was nearby, I helped him get closer to the bed and
managed to stand up. But he sat below the bed for some
reason and then he started crying and began to lie down. I
immediately went downstairs and told Nadine about this, she
had work so Mano (also a nurse) came to help, she couldn’t
lift him and told that she didn’t want broken bones at the
time of holiday. Nadine came up and helped him up and
made him lie on his bed, and put protection (levels) around
his bed using a remote so that he wouldn’t fall down, etc.
Then we went to Streuer and Nadine gave him two shots of
insolin on his stomach. I also got to know the person wo
cleans dishes and cooks today, she is from Afghanistan. I also
met Arthur (a nurse from Bangledish). I also learned that,
documenting includes recording the times a person has taken
tablets. The Podologist also visited today and used an
instrument to cleanse people’s foot.

Reflection: Axel was troubled, when I pointed up pictures and

told him what they were, he replied sadly. He reminded me
of myself, because I windle around the past a lot. Though I
didn’t know something/ what to do, when Axel was at the
floor. I was able to come up with a way that would help lead
me out of that particular situation.

Day 6 (Highlights): Today was a Saturday. Nadine wasn’t

there today, instead Sabrina (the lady wit the red air with a
bun) and Ingeborg were there. Not even Michaela was there.
I joined Sabrina’s nursing duties, we first went to Ursula. She
was supposed to be cleaned today. I helped to remove her
underwear. After that, Ursula complained she felt pain
somewhere. Sabrina wiped her with tissue paper. I handed
over pieces of tissue paper during the process. Next, I wetted
the wash towels. And Sabrina removed Ursula’s clothes. I
applied soap on the wash towels and Sabrina cleaned Ursula
with the towels. Next Sabrina wiped Ursula and I handed
Ursula’s stand upright walker (she can’t walk much without
this). Then I helped Ursula wear pants and Sabrina placed a
top upon Ursula. Next we went together to the cafeteria. I
helped make tea for Marlies. And this time, Arthur fed Axel. I
helped Inge distribute the tablets. After this, I arranged the
dishwasher. Then, I watched over Axel who wouldn’t sit
down properly. I learned from Sabrina that Axel had a type of
Dementia ( a condition which makes people forget things)
and Christa did too. We went to Marlies. Marlies had
thrombosis, as a result she had a special stocking that would
help regulate leg muscles to normalise blood flow. After that,
Sabrina put on Marlies’s pants on and then made her wear
these special sort of boots that would make her still, and
helped her wear her top. Next, we arranged Marlies’s bed.
Marlies had two toy like pillows, a dark coloured cat and
something else. Her room was painted brown and had
pictures of her grandchildren all around her room. Next, I
went to the cafeteria and helped remove utensils, etc. from
the second dishwasher, which stopped sometime then. I also
poured Axel apple juice. Next, I cleaned the tables and put
tissue papers , utensils, etc. on the tables. I also brought the
waste bags to the waste disposal cans. We later on also
casted a resident, Marcus’s arm just like Carmen’s two legs.

Day 7 (Highlights): Monday, Nadine told me that I shouldn’t

to come to work at Saturdays because that was against the
teen protection act. We went to Streuer’s room, made his
bed, throw his removable underwear in the dustbin, and
Nadine gave him shots. I brought waste bags to the waste
disposal cans once again. I helped Petra bring her plate
upstairs once again and brought her tablets. And made tea
for Marlies. I also fed Axel and poured him apple juice.
Nadine put the white button against Petra’s upper hand
again and put the timer. Nadine wrapped the cast rolls
around Carmen’s legs once again, and I helped put on the
stockings, hold their ends, hand over the strips of stickers
and fold them. There was a first aid course so a lot of workers
from the next half came, and a person cleaned the tables.
Many nurse praktitioners from surrounding subsidiaries of
FAK in Essen came for this. It happened at the second half of
the cafeteria. A man basically explained important tipps
during an emergency and what medicines/ what should be
done in case an ambulance doesn’t arrive, etc. It lasted for
about 3 hours (till 3.p.m.) and then since a lot of people took
chairs from the entrance and surrounding places which didn’t
belong to the cafeteria and arranged the tables in a way a lot
of people could sit, chairs had to be lifted and placed in their
original places including the tables. And after sometime, the
elders came for the lounging hour (15:00-16:00), and there
was cake. And I helped fill up coffee kettles and handed over
plates of cake to the people that wanted it. I met Agnes, who
was also a nurse. I helped her remove plates and other
utensils from the dishwasher and arrange them in their
places. I handed over pudding to Gitti, who asked me for
some. And I also fed pudding to Axel.

Reflection:
My overall reflection about the faculty: The faculty were not
anything I expected them to be. Nadine was extremely
respectful, conversational and funny. She helped me at times
I had difficulties doing something like lifting up Axel to his
bed. When I didn’t do something right like this once I wet a
towel (meant for wiping) by accident, Nadine didn’t take it
seriously and just took the next step. Nadine and Sabrina
also explained me why some people needed specific
instruments like Carmen’s leg cast. Everyone, Nicole, Sabrina,
Agnes, Scholastica (a cleaner), Khadija, Mano, Ingeborg,
Lillian, etc. were extremely caring. Sabrina gave me advice
when I did something wrong, like cleaning the coffee kettles.
And Michaela showed me how instruments like the coffee
machines worked. And Michaela has a great humour. There is
also a person who I met on Friday (24/06) who is doing an
Ausbildung here, and is super communicative and articulate.
Lillian is super outgoing, always gives tipps to beat self-made
problems like nervousness, etc., motivates people like Axel
that he is a strong and has a great sense of humour.

My overall reflection about the old people: They are all

extremely nice people, each with a different story. Carmen’s
past was painful, her husband and his mother died before
they turned 60. And Annaliese’s mother died of tumour and
her husband and one of her brothers also died early. But
both of them are strong people. And don’t let their past
trouble them, Annaliese always smiles (fun fact, she uses
metal teeth dentures that look a bit like braces since they
only have few teeth) and Carmen does too. Frank despite he
lost contact with his friends as a result of his leg accident and
he uses water tablets to move his hands well, he still makes
the most of his time knitting and building complex figures
from Lego while listening to German pop. And Birgit who is
fighting cancer, always smiles and makes a lot of jokes. Each
room is different and tells a story. Ralf (who can’t move one
of his arm very well)’s room was like a café, it had posters of
rolling stones and had a huge TV set with speakers and black
cupboards, etc. (fun fact, he has a rolling stones cup),
showed that he was a rock enthusiast and a gamer. Elli’s
room had swing playing around in the background and she
had an aesthetic tea set; metal wire chairs, and a small table.
It was like Paris. Birgit’s room was the room I personally liked
the most because it reminded me of Bangalore, she had bed
to the side, a tea table in the middle of the room with a towel
on, a glass cupboard with items and a huge window next to
her TV set. Martin’s room was quite modern. And, Ingrid’s
room was just like a miny flat with 4 rooms, she set up
cupboards. chairs, etc. around her TV. And had a bed in the
corner (where some kept their cupboards like Ursula). Axel’s
room was peculiar, it was modern like it had a refrigerator,
modern chairs, table mate, etc. but it had an old ancient
clock. Axel’s room also had pictures about different cars and
pictures of his family members like his sister. And although I
tried my best arranging the plates, bowls and other utensils
from the dishwasher In different cupboards, some adults did
pinpoint that I was putting glasses for instance at the wrong
cupboard and that I had to wipe the cutlery with a cloth (to
wipe out water stains) or that some of the utensils were not
clean enough. Sometimes, I felt like they expected
perfection, but that is not what most people are. But I didn’t
make a fuss about it at all, I took it as constructive criticism
and guidance and moved forward. And not all old people are
dependents, although they don’t have the stamina as that of
a teenager, they still keep things orderly, like Marianne who
folds clothes and arranges her cupboard and does many
other duties by herself. In fact, Ingrid and Annaliese went to
the mall on their own to by items, despite being in their 70’s.

My reflection about the work in general

At first it was difficult coming to work punctually at a daily
basis. Since, I usually skip my alarm at times. But this time the
times I skipped my alarm, I spent less time choosing my outfit
and just went on with whatever. And I did go on time to work
every time, even after lunchbreak during which I watched a
Korean soap opera. I also had difficulty communicating what
was in my mind to colleagues at first fearing judgements, etc.
But as time went on, as I became more comfortable with
them, I conquered my fears and talked to them what was in
my mind (although not clearly). I struggled to do certain
things like cleaning the tables, because I hadn’t cleaned
tables in so long (my mother usually did them for me). But
then after the first or second day, I sort of got the hang of it. I
also struggled talking to the residents, but this eventually
ended with some people after I got to know them more like
Axel. The workload was also difficult sometimes, when I was
given work after work like after cleaning the tables I had to
clean some utensils. I was genuinely exhausted during times
like this. I sometimes had to kill time when I had nothing to
do like when the residents had gone to their rooms and
Nadine had left, which was quite annoying. I however read/
watched the construction workers/ helped with documenting
(when I was needed) at this time.

How has it had affected my view on nursing:

At first, I never really expected to have nursing as an option
for my future carrier. I always viewed nursing as a job with
easy tasks. During my time in India, a nurse would just put
injections and it was the doctor which used to treat the
sickness. But after coming to FAK, I realised that it was not so
easy being a nurse. The doctor just treats the sickness, but it
is the nurse who actually looks after the patient during their
time in the hospital by providing them food, etc. You also
have to do these things for more than one person at a time,
like being there for different types of people and like doctors
you have to be in a lot of places in a regular day. I also
learned that there was two fields in nursing one to treat
sickness and one to take care of dependents. My family also
to this day views a nurse as a not good option for the future,
because they think you wouldn’t get paid well and they are
just an assistant to the doctor. This is kind of true, but
although nursing doesn’t get you paid very well, you get the
opportunity to meet and experience the needs and lives of
different types of people from different backgrounds all at
one place. Nadine says that it requires a lot of learning. I
think this is true, but so is finishing school in general. I also
found the workload a bit hectic, but I guess I can’t shred
away from this as most jobs these days involve hours of
actual work. So, do I see myself doing nursing in the future?
To be honest, I am not quite sure because I can’t predict
what the future is like because anything can happen, but I
will consider it as an option, specifically the one dealing with
old people.

In conclusion, I learned a lot from this experience. I learned

that when people above their 50’s give me criticism, it is
usually not that I am a idiotic person who is good for nothing
(I used to think this when adults in my hometown told me to
put things properly or read books), but rather to help me to
improve. I also viewed old people differently, not as knit
picky (but warm) individuals but rather as mentally strong
(most) individuals who expect the best out of people (this is
why they knit pick Ig). I also started to view nursing as a
tiresome but gratifying service. And from nursing and from
Frank, I learned that sometimes, it is okay and maybe the
best to take things slower.
