FALL 2022
Course Title: BAIT1003
Introduction to Information Technology

Project Presentation
Course Instructor: Prof. Faizan Malik

Section: J Program: BBA Assigned Date: January 09, 2023

Maximum Marks: 15
Submission Date: January 30, 2023
(Presentation + Report): (10+5)
Program Objective: Course Objective: Course Learning Objective:

PO1, PO2, PO3, PO4, PO5, PO6 CO1, CO2, CO3, CO4 CLO1, CLO2, CLO3, CLO4

Objectives
The objective of this presentation is to encourage students to investigate the technical and business aspects of
Information Technology related topic in greater depth than is possible in the classroom given the time
constraints. The presentation will provide students experience in gathering information about technical and
business issues and presenting them in context.

Requirements
The presentation should be prepared for somebody who may be a user of technology, but is not a “techie”. For
instance, it could be a middle level manager in operations, marketing, or accounting, and would like to
understand (your topic), and find out how it could be useful to them. Therefore, it should be a reasonable mix
of technical details and application of the technology. I should mention that some topics are more technology
oriented, and some are more application oriented. Therefore, some presentations will need to provide more
technical details than other ones.

Overall Project
The purpose of the project is to provide an opportunity for you to research, understand, organize, and present
a synopsis of a current topic in Information System.
• Investigate the topic. Use articles and/or books, web sites etc., for background. Your project must
include some background research and some activity, e.g., an interview or a site visit. (If you choose
a topic for which you can't think of an appropriate activity, discuss it with the instructor.)
• Don't just report. Discuss pros and cons. Evaluate. Use your own words. Quote where appropriate.
Give citations for facts and quotes. Discuss how your topic relates to material covered in the text
and/or in class discussions.
• Papers are to be typed (use a word processor, Times New Roman with font size 12) and single-spaced
with double spacing between headings and paragraphs.
• The paper should run 20 to 25 pages, exclusive of title page, bibliography.
• One page should cover title, authors and abstract.
• Abstract of your paper should be an executive summary which provides highlights from the paper and
summarizes the topics to be discussed in the paper.
• It is well for the paper to provide a bibliography. An appendix page (last) will specify the date(s) and
location(s) of the interview(s) and list all people present at the interview(s).

• Avoid relying overmuch on web sites for definitive references (as opposed to guidance to sources of
reliable, vetted information).

Outline For The Paper

• Cover page: with title, your names (alphabetical order), and abstract (a summary of 200 words
including aim-methodology-main findings - conclusion)
• Table of Contents – Index
• Introduction section: overview of topic and issues to be discussed
o Write an outline. Organize your thoughts. You may use section headings to indicate the topic or
purpose of sections of the paper.
• Background: description, and/or history of the issue, a brief information on the research topic (it
should not be more than one page)
• Methodology and research details
• Issues, various points of view
• Findings: results of interviews, observations etc.
• Conclusion: Your comments or evaluation
• List of references:
o Use a variety of sources for information and arguments. If you use articles from the Web, give the
URL and the organization sponsoring the site. There's a lot of junk and unsupported opinion on
the Web. Pay attention to quality of your sources.
• Appendix (if needed)

Note:
• Remember what this course is about. Do not hand papers that are purely factual or historic. Such
papers will not get high scores. You must include discussion of issues.
• One of the most common problems with papers is poor organization.
• Write in your own words. Start early; talk to the instructor if you have problems.
• List each member’s contributions of the project. Make sure that each group members participates
in preparation of presentation topics, if a group member is found to have not contributed in the project
presentation preparation, negative marks will be awarded to all group members.

Project Outlıne for Research Topıcs:

• Abstract
• First Step:
o Visit these e-business sites.
o Make a brief research on the market and give a brief information on the market (products,
producers).
o Analyse the platform or technology that is used in the site. Search about this technology and
summarize the main features of the technology used in the site.
o Analyze the site map.
o Get user account and try to investigate these systems as a user.
• Second Step:
o Define the main modules of the system (User accounts /profiling system, Ordering system,
product information system, contact system, consumer support system)
o Define the “common” and “different” features of the systems.
o Define the static and dynamic parts of the “common parts” of the systems.
o Choose one module of the systems.
- Identify the database type and design.
- Define authorizations for users, admins, visitors.
- Make a system analysis and draw the Data-information flowcharts .
- Define the possible reports that can be taken from the system (Based on the database and
processed information)
- Make a testing plan and implement system performance and usability tests for the system.
o Write down the challenges and errors you witnessed in the system and your ideas for improvement
of the system as a user

-For these changes you recommended, identify the changes/improvements needed in any of
the
▪ database design
▪ processing system/workflows
▪ hardware infrastructure
• Third Step:
o Define the corporate systems that can interact and that should be integrated with these e-business
sites of these companies
• Fourth Step:
o Explain what you have learned from this Project. Depending on your findings, summarize the issues
(business related and technological) that should be considered when developing a similar system
• Fifth Step:
o Presentation

Deliverables and Deadlines

From January 30, 2023, each group will start delivering their presentation. A minimum of 2 presentations will
be held in each class. Each group will be given 20 minutes to present.

Grading
Each group will be evaluated on the following main criteria.

Quality of the final presentation:

o Clarity: Can a person who is not familiar with this topic understand and appreciate the value of this
presentation? Is the presentation well motivated?
o Organization: Does the presentation have a logical order? Are the main points identified and clearly
explained? Is each part a cohesive, but integral component of the whole presentation?
o Depth: Does the presentation leave the reader with a good understanding of the key ideas? Does the
presentation get down to basics, or does it gloss over important concepts?
o Breadth: Does it represent a comprehensive research effort or is it simply an ad hoc collection of ideas?
Does it include recent developments?

NOTE: Reference sites are given next to your assigned projects for you to get an idea about your project. DO
NOT copy these sites
