COLLABORATIVE PROJECT ARTIFACTS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM USING CLOUD COMPUTING TECHNOLOGY

Setting the scene: Background

Cloud computing is an approach of placing computer resources on a network of interconnected computer instead of at a local
storage, where data are pulled on-demand (Hayes, 2008). The term cloud computing and cloud storage are still vague and are
often used interchangeably. Since the advent of cloud computing, many organizations worldwide are adapting to it in their work
processes. [general]

One of the purpose of using cloud storage is archiving of old data, backup and damage recovery (King, 2009). These can save
companies from the disaster of data losses, which might be an attractive factor for cloud computing.

Lately, students are more prone to use social networks and their smart phones to communicate. According to Razak (2009),
students of this age are having different approaches to their learning curve, the traditional approach and methods are no longer
satisfying to them. To cope with the changes in the learning methods, local universities are seeking new ways to tackle the student
interests. The power to stay connected anywhere of social network, might be the contributing factor of the social network
popularity even if social network is not well suited for university. It might be as it enables the user to be in constant
communication with their loved ones and colleagues. In the same manner, data can be made available everywhere by using cloud
computing. Cloud technology can provide portability of data and ease collaboration between its users (Hayes, 2008). An
implementation of cloud computing in courses of local higher education institutes might be appealing to its students, especially in
providing a collaboration environment for users to manage their projects together.

Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons.) Information Systems Engineering, ISE is one of the programme offered in Faculty of
Computer & Mathematical Sciences… [linking to the case study…]
:
Without a proper system for each group to manage their team and projects, some difficulties would arise, such as:

• Each group has no center of synchronization and no task management tools to keep track of their work.
• There are no central repositories to store student deliverables. Work loss are unavoidable if something unforeseen were to
occur on individual computer, such as theft or natural disaster
• Work done by each individual varies in format, which may be incompatible with the computer software of other individuals.
[summary of his investigation on current situation]
Problem Statement,
Purpose Statement –Aim,
Objectives or Research Questions

• Write a brief account on the current state of

the problems.
• Explain what you are going to solve and your
objectives.
Report Message eg
Problem Statement: AIM:
To develop a system to manage ISE
There is no appropriate tool to provide
control in managing project artifacts for Students’ artifacts using cloud
students in Bachelor of Information computing technology for team
Technology (Information Systems members to collaborate, standardize,
Engineering) undertaking 3 track and share their work and for
project-based core courses (ITS470,
lecturers to monitor the progress and
ITS570, ITS670) in 3 consecutive
semesters where the deliverables of one control the students’ project progress
course are input to the other. -Collabtifacts, which combines
Collaboration and artifacts.

COLLABTIFACTS:
COLLABORATIVE PROJECT ARTIFACTS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM USING CLOUD COMPUTING TECHNOLOGY
Objectives eg
• Breaking the project into milestones:
– To review cloud computing technology for
managing artifacts.
– To analyze the requirements for developing a
system to manage deliverables.
– To design the system using cloud computing
technology.
– To develop the system in managing deliverables.

Scope/Limitation

• Explain your scope / limitation.

Limitations
• Matters that arise which are out of your
control
• Limit the extensity to which a project can go
• Affect end results
• Affect conclusion that can be drawn
Limitations -eg
• The project researcher is limited in the project
funding, hence only ‘free’ package of cloud service
provided are available to be chosen …
• The system are still relatively new, students need
some time to get acquainted with it to trust it to
properly store and manage their files.
• There is too much confidentiality in the
organization while performing data collection that
cause some of the data to be unabled to the
researcher.
Scope
• The extent of the area or subject matter that you are
solving in your project. Boundary. Population of
study, the instrument, data gathering method,
previous knowledge, etc.

Example:
• This development project focus on students and lecturers
in Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons.)
Information Systems Engineering from Faculty of
Computer and Mathematical Sciences, UiTM Jasin.
Significant
Recipients who benefit from your project

Example:
• Able to manage ISE projects and artifacts for both
lecturers and students.
• The cost of storage management can be saved
through the practice of cloud computing.
• Reduce data loss to natural disaster or theft by
using a backup at a centralized data repository.
