Job Description
To ensure a safe and secure residential environment and ensure the welfare of all residential
students, with a focus on those aged under 18.
Bishop Burton College includes the Riseholme College campus and the post holder may be required
to carry out duties at both campuses.
The following list of duties and responsibilities is not meant to be exclusive. It should be taken as an
indicator of the type and level of activity expected of this post. The list does not represent either
priorities or frequency of tasks and should be regularly updated by the post holder in consultation
with and agreement of their line manager.
1. Be part of the team who support students, parents/guardians and other stakeholders both in and
of normal working hours by providing excellent customer care, advice and assistance.
2. Induct and instruct students in all aspects of the residential experience including relevant health &
safety procedures, and Accommodation Regulations.
3. Ensure students under 18 follow correct procedures to ensure their care and welfare as per the
National Minimum Standards regulations.
4. Patrol halls of residence whilst on duty, deal with queries, emergencies and provide support to
students out of hours. Provide first aid cover, act as fire warden and call emergency services as
appropriate. Accompany students to hospital where required.
5. Ensure all residential documents, paper-based and electronic, are accurate, up-to-date and
stored in the appropriate manner.
6. Facilitate student activity programmes as required, participating fully in the social life of the
College.
7. Attend key meetings associated with the service, including Warden’s meetings.
8. Secure designated buildings including intruder alarms in liaison with College Security and Estates
staff.
9. Perform such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are
commensurate with its level of responsibility.

and therefore have a responsibility to promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people
and vulnerable adults in accordance with the nature of this post. A Disclosure & Barring Service
check is carried out for all relevant appointments.
To share responsibility for welfare, pastoral care, enrichment and discipline of residential students.
To act as fire officer, first aider and to assist other staff in securing the campus out of hors.
DECISION MAKING
Due to the nature and variability of tasks, must be able to use initiative, cope with a variety of
circumstances and work well under pressure.
