achievement of personal
fitness. Students will implement the health-related

and skill-related components of fitness in

with the intent to better their overall

fitness.

Unit Anticipatory Set

Before every lesson the students will walk to begin the class as this gives

the teacher time to take role and get everything ready for class. Also, the

students can also change into gym clothes during this allotted time if they

so choose. Next, the teacher will lead the students through some static

stretching and a light warmup before the lesson gets started. This is how

every class will begin for this unit.

Activities Planned
There are a couple of different lessons and activities that are planned for

this unit that tie into the central focus. The first activity is workout circuits
where the students will move through a various of different stations where

there is different workout designated to each station. Each student will

spend a minute at each station before moving to the next with a thirty

second break between each workout. The next class has a couple of

different actives all going on at the same time as the students are split up

into groups. There are three different activities the tennis ball throw which

tested reaction time, ruler drop test which tests coordination, and jump

rope which works on both of those skills combined. The last activity used

in this unit is a relay race that works on speed and agility where the class

is split into two teams to see which tram can complete the relay course

fastest.

Assessment
Informal: Review with the students and ask higher level and questions to

get them thinking all the information that was gone over that day and over

the entire unit.

Formal: A posttest was given to the students both on paper and a

physical test which will see what they learned and if they training of these

skills helped the students.

LESSON PLAN #1
Lesson Title: Skill Related Concepts of Fitness Circuits Grade/Level: 9th
Curriculum Standards Central Focus
(HS.PW.4) Implement the health- The central focus for this
related and skill-related lesson is for students to
components of fitness. understand and engage in
physical activities that
(HS.PW.5) Analyze and engage in developmentally appropriate and
physical activities that are support achievement of personal
developmentally appropriate and fitness and activity goals.
support achievement of personal Students will implement the
fitness. health-related and skill-related
components of fitness in with the
intent to better their overall
fitness.
Lesson Objective(s)
Students will understand all of the health and skill related
components of fitness. Students will do exercise that will engage
these components and are developmentally appropriate to achieve
personal fitness. As they complete a workout circuit throughout the
time in class.
Assessment/Evaluation
Students will be questioned at the end of the lesson about the
different workouts that was done during class about what skill or
health-related component that the workout were working on. Also,
they will take a small assessment at the end of class to gauge
student understanding of the exercises and the skills that they are
working on.

Materials

The materials that will be used in this are some cones to make each
station of the circuit. There will be different exercises printed on the
cones with pictures of how to do the exercise in case students need
a reminder on how to complete the exercise. Also, the assignment
that will be given at the end of class will be needed too.

Instruction Strategies
The lesson will start by the teacher guiding the students through a
warm-up with stretches. Then, splitting the students into their
individual workouts. The teacher will then go around to each
exercise and model for the students how to do each one. As the
students go around the circuits doing the different workouts, they will
do this on their own, and the teacher will come by encouraging
students as they do these workouts. The students will also complete
a assignment at the end of class as a response to the lesson that
day. The teacher can use this to gauge student learning and
understanding of the lesson.
Closure

The assignment that will be used as a part of independent practice

as closure because this assignment will be handed out at the end of
class and must be turned in to be able to exit the class. The
assignment will ask questions about the individual exercises and
which health, or skill related component is the exercise using.
Differentiation
Some students may not be able to complete each exercise
completely, so the exercise could be altered or changed for them to
be able to complete a form of the exercise. For example, not every
student will be able to do a proper form push-up for the exercise can
be altered to where they would place their knees on the ground and
do push-ups from that position instead. There are some exercises
that can be changed like the example provided to help students who
may not be able to complete certain exercises.

LESSON PLAN #2
Lesson Title: Reaction Time and Coordination Grade/Level: 9th

Curriculum Standards Central Focus

(HS.PW.4) Implement the health- The central focus for this
related and skill-related lesson is for students to
components of fitness. understand and engage in
physical activities that
(HS.PW.5) Analyze and engage in developmentally appropriate and
physical activities that are support achievement of personal
developmentally appropriate and fitness and activity goals.
support achievement of personal Students will implement the
fitness. health-related and skill-related
components of fitness in with the
intent to better their overall
fitness.
Lesson Objective(s)
Students will understand what reaction time and coordination is and
how these skill related components of fitness are important. Also, to
participate in drills to test these skills along with improve their skills.
The students will understand what each drill is testing and improving.
Assessment/Evaluation
Students will be evaluated on their reaction time and coordination
first by the teacher watching them participate in the drills during
class. This will allow the teacher to understand and gauge how the
students are with these skills. The students will also have written
assignment at the end of class to complete. This will consist of
questions about the drills, which skills is the class working on today,
and why these drills help the skill set that the class is attempting to
work on.
Materials
The materiel that will be used for the class will be a tennis ball with a
wall to test hand-eye coordination. The next item will be a ruler to
test reaction time with the ruler drop test. Also, a jump rope will be
used to work on coordination with hand-eye and hand to feet as well.
The assignment will be printed on paper to give to the students to
take and turn back to be able to gauge their learning from that day in
the gym.
Instruction Strategies
The class will all meet together at the beginning of class, and the
teacher will ask questions to test prior knowledge on reaction time
and coordination. Explain to the class the difference between
reaction time and coordination. Ask the students questions to see
what they know about each skill and what they have maybe done in
the past to work on these skills. Then, the class will be divided into
smaller groups like 4 to 5 students a group. Each group will go to a
different station in the gym that works on different skills. One group
will go to the tennis ball station to throw the ball against the wall to
work on hand-eye coordination, one group to the ruler drop test to
test reaction time, and last group will go to the jump rope station.
Then all students will take the assignment as the end of class and
turn it in before leaving class.
Closure
First, the class will come back together to discuss with the class
again about the drills that were worked on that day. Ask students
questions about the different skills that were worked on and tested
that day. Then, the students will do an assignment about the days
class. This will be used as an exit ticket for the students, so the
students will turn this back into the teacher before the class ends.
Differentiation
Some students were not able or did not know how to jump, so for
those students they were tried to teach how to jump rope and took
them through each step of jumping roping. Then, depending on how
students were doing with the tennis ball hand-eye coordination, the
student would either move up closer to the wall to make the drill
more difficult or back up a few steps from the wall to make the drill a
bit easier. This helped student be able to complete the drill and work
on their coordination based on their skill level.
LESSON PLAN #3
Lesson Title: Review of Health and Skill Components of Grade/Level: 9th
Fitness & Speed and Agility Relay Race

Curriculum Standards Central Focus

(HS.PW.4) Implement the health- The central focus for this
related and skill-related lesson is for students to
components of fitness. understand and engage in
physical activities that
(HS.PW.5) Analyze and engage in developmentally appropriate and
physical activities that are support achievement of personal
developmentally appropriate and fitness and activity goals.
support achievement of personal Students will implement the
fitness. health-related and skill-related
components of fitness in with the
intent to better their overall
fitness.

Lesson Objective(s)
One of the main objectives for this lesson is to review with the class
over all the health and skill related components of fitness that has
been covered in the class. Not just the components but also the
individual drills that the class did for those components. The class
will also play a relay game that combines two of the components
with them trying to also win the race.
Assessment/Evaluation
The class will be assessed based on the review that was given at the
beginning of class by the teacher. Using the review, the teacher will
be able to tell how much of the content that the students absorbed
by the way the students are able to answer the questions. In this
assessment the teacher will want to ask some questions that
students have to remember the information that was gone over also
why these components.
Materials
The materials for this class that will be needed are cones for the
agility section of the relay race, where students will have to slide
through the section of cones. Then hula hoops will also be needed in
this relay race as students will hoop through each hula hoop. Also,
there will be a hula hoop at the end of the race to take the ball out of
it to being to their teammates and then their teammate will put the
ball back in the hula hoop as their alternate throughout the relay
race.

Instruction Strategies
One of the instruction strategies that was used was combining a few
of the skills that the class has learned individually and putting them
together into a game. The students really enjoy competition so, the
students like to play games and the class always shows
participation. Also, used grouping when the class is split up into the
team games that were used to run the relay race.
Closure
The closure that was used for this lesson was bringing the class as
group together to ask them a few questions about the game. Ask the
class questions about what skills that we have practice were present
in the game. Ask questions about drills in class have an impact on
how well their team competed in the game.
Differentiation
There was not much differentiation in this lesson because I made
the race with skills that most people could complete. However, if the
race did need to be altered we could changes some part of the relay
to ensure that every student could participate in the game.
