HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

The history of the Holy Cross of Mintal dates way back to June 1959 when a
priest of a foreign Mission Society of Quebec (PME) began the direction of the school.
Reverend Father Marcel Lavoie, PME was the school’s first director. The school had
only three teachers and used the ground floor of the parish convent as their temporary
classroom.

Later, because of the demand of Catholic education, three classrooms were

constructed in 1960. Then in 1963-1964, the school was given to the permanent
management of the Presentation of Mary Sisters.

School year 1991-1992, the Department of Social Welfare and Development

offered to the administration to open a Daycare Center under their supervision. Due to the
demand of the parents for the religious preparation and values formation of their children
especially in their most delicate formative years; Sr. Elnora Taparan, PM as the Director
of the school accepted it. So, in 1993, the complete supervision was given to the
Presentation of Mary Sisters with the approval from the Department of Education,
Culture and Sports. This became the opportunity to open the planned Grade School
Department.

The plan on the development of the Grade School Department such as physical
plant, facilities, curriculum, instructional, academic services and human resources were
made on a staggered basis. We started having six (6) classrooms until the two storey –
building was built for additional classrooms. Presently, the Grade School Department has
its own library, faculty room, an office of the principal, an office of the Guidance
Counselor, Prefect of Discipline, TLE room, Science Laboratory, Computer Laboratory,
CAI room, Testing room, a clinic and the girls’ and boys’ restrooms.

For the past years, the Grade School Department has lived to its mission in
providing Christian, quality and competitive education to the people in the locality and its
neighboring areas.
