DRAWING

METHOD:

1. Follow the link https://ophysics.com/e2.html

2. Ensure the mass of the red box is set to 5 kg and that of the blue box is set to 3 kg
3. Set the initial velocity of the red box to 10 m/s and that of the blue box to -10 m/s
4. Set the elasticity of the collision to 1
5. Record the initial velocities and kinetic energies
6. Run the simulation and pause it after the collision
7. Record final velocities and kinetic energies
8. Reset the simulation and repeat steps 3 to 7 for other combinations of initial velocities and
elasticity values as indicated in the table below

8. DATA ANALYSIS:
1. What is linear momentum?
2. What is the formula for linear momentum?
3. What is the conservation of linear momentum?
4. What is an impulse?
5. What is the derivation of the formula for impulse?
6. What is the unit of impulse?
7. What is meant by elastic and inelastic collision ?
8. What is the relationship between the initial total KE and the final total KE where the elasticity of
collision is 1? Were they equal when the elasticity was 0.5?
9. Is KE conserve in an inelastic collision? Is energy conserved in an inelastic collision? Explain ?
10. In each case, can we say that the total momentum before collision was equal to that after
collision? Is the conservation of linear momentum independent of the elasticity of the collision?
