FAMILY LIFE

Nam: Hi, Minh. What's up?

Minh: Hey, Nam. I'm heading over to our school stadium to play football with some friends this
evening. want to join with us?

Nam: That sounds interesting, but I'm afraid I won't be able to paricipate in it. I have to prepare
dinner.

Minh: Oh, I got it. Your mom's not home?

Nam: Yeah, she's working late today.

Minh: What about your sister, Lan? Can she lend a hand with the housework?

Nam: Usually, yes. But she's swamped with exam studies right now.

Minh: I see. I've never had to cook; it's my mother's chores

Nam: Really? How does your family divide the household chores ?

Minh: Well, my mom takes care of the domestic duties, my dad brings home the money, and we, the
kids, focus on our studies.

Nam: In my family, we share the housework equally. Mom handles the cooking and grocery shopping,
Dad takes care of cleaning and the heavy lifting, and my sister and I do the laundry, washing-up, and
taking out the trash. We also pitch in with cooking when Mom's busy.

Minh: sounds fair ! Anyway, I've got to run. See you around.
Nam: Catch ya later.

HUMANS AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Mike: Hey Nam, what are your plans this weekend?

Nam: I'm happy to attend the first meeting of our school's Be Greener Club.

Mike: Wow, that sounds like a great idea. Can you tell me more about the club?

Nam: Sure, Be Greener Club was founded by our school's Youth Union and the main goal of the club is
to raise environmental awareness and encourage people to adopt environmentally friendly activities.
school.

Mike: That's a noble cause. What are your starting plans for the club?

Nam: We are starting a school-wide cleaning campaign right after the opening ceremony.

Mike: That's a great way to start. Do you have any other activities in the works?

Nam: Yes, we are currently considering ideas to organize events to raise local awareness of
environmental issues.

Mike: I'm really interested in reducing my environmental impact but I don't know where to start. Can I
join the club?

Nam: Sure! The Be Greener Club welcomes all students in our school district. We look forward to
cooperating and making a significant contribution to environmental protection.

Mike: Great! Please send me details about the next club meeting. I look forward to participating.

Nam: Sure, I'll send you the time and location via text message. See you there!
MUSIC

Alex: Hey Sarah, what kind of music do you like?

Sarah: I’m into a lot of different genres, but lately I’ve been really into indie rock. What about you?

Alex: I’m more of a hip-hop guy myself. I love the beats and the lyrics.

Sarah: Yeah, I can see why. There’s a lot of great hip-hop out there.

Alex: Definitely. So, who are some of your favorite indie rock bands?

Sarah: I really like The National, Arcade Fire, and Vampire Weekend. How about you? Who are some of
your favorite hip-hop artists?

Alex: I’m a big fan of Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and Chance the Rapper. They all have such unique styles.

Sarah: Yeah, they’re all really talented. So, do you ever go to concerts?

Alex: I used to go to a lot of concerts before the pandemic. I miss it so much.

Sarah: Same here. There’s nothing like seeing your favorite artists perform live.

Alex: Absolutely. I can’t wait until it’s safe to go to concerts again.

Sarah: Me too. So, do you play any instruments?

Alex: I used to play the drums when I was younger, but I haven’t played in years. How about you?

Sarah: I play the guitar. I’m not very good, but I enjoy it.

Alex: That’s awesome. I’ve always wanted to learn how to play an instrument.

Sarah: You should give it a try! It’s never too late to start.

Alex: Maybe I will. Thanks for the suggestion, Sarah.

Sarah: Anytime, Alex. It was great talking to you about music.

FOR A BETTER COMMUNITY

Kim: Hello Tam. This morning I went to your house at 9am but you weren't there.

Tam: Oh, sorry about that. I am volunteering at our local community center.

Kim: Ah, I see. How did you get involved with them?

Tam: Well, last summer I visited the center and saw a flyer for volunteers. I decided to apply and was
lucky enough to be accepted.
Kim: I have always been interested in serving the community. I think it's a great way to give back to my
community.

Tam: I agree. Not only does volunteering benefit the community, but it can also be a great way to learn
new skills and boost your confidence.

Kim: What activities do they organize at the center?

Tam: There's something for everyone. You could join an environmental group and help clean up a park
once a week, or you could volunteer at a local orphanage.

Kim: Both seem like great options. How can I participate?

Tam: I will send you an email with the volunteer application form. Just fill it out and send it back.

Kim: Thank you very much Tam. I'm so excited to start volunteering!

Tam: No problem. Good luck with your application and I hope you enjoy volunteering at the centre.

INVENTIONS

Alex: Hey Sarah, what’s your favorite invention of all time?

Sarah: That’s a tough question. There have been so many great inventions throughout history.

Alex: I know, right? But if you had to pick one, what would it be?

Sarah: I think I would have to go with the printing press. It revolutionized the way we share information
and helped spread knowledge throughout the world.

Alex: That’s a great choice. I would have to say my favorite invention is the internet. It’s amazing how it
has connected people from all over the world and made information so accessible.

Sarah: Yes, the internet is definitely a game-changer. It’s hard to imagine life without it now.

Alex: Another invention that I think is really cool is the smartphone. It’s like having a computer in your
pocket.
Sarah: I agree. Smartphones have changed the way we communicate and access information. It’s
incredible how much technology has advanced in such a short amount of time.

Alex: Definitely. And there are so many other inventions that have had a huge impact on our lives, like
the automobile, the airplane, and the light bulb.

Sarah: Yes, it’s amazing to think about all the inventions that have shaped our world. It makes you
wonder what the future holds.

Alex: That’s true. Who knows what kind of inventions we’ll see in the next few decades.

Sarah: Whatever they are, I’m sure they’ll be just as amazing as the ones that came before.

Alex: Agreed. Thanks for the chat, Sarah.

Sarah: Anytime, Alex. Take care.
