The overall objective of this monologue is to figure out why
she has been given this ring. That it shows the thought process of viola and how she come to realise that this has become a situation. Also, that Olivia has fallen in love with her as a man. She tries to make sense of the situation and ultimately come to the conclusion that she will just have to wait and see what will become of the situation. Just before this monologue is given, Viola dressed as a man (Cesario) has left Olivia’s house, unable to convince her to accept Orsino’s love. Olivia has found herself liking Cesario, so she thinks of an excuse to get Cesario back to the house and gives her own ring to her servant. She tells him to pretend it was one Cesarios left on Orsino’s behalf.
