Amidst a maze of rocks tucked in the Aravalli mountain ranges of Haryana, a team of
archaeologists discovered cave paintings they believe belong to the Upper Palaeolithic
age.
The cave paintings have been discovered just outside the national capital and a stone’s
throw away from a holy grove called Mangar Bani- the region’s only surviving patch of
primary forest.
While the residents of the villages have been familiar with the paintings for ages, the
Haryana government’s museum and archaeology department took note of them just
recently.
A fact-finding team was sent to the area in the last week of June. The team came across
cave paintings comprising images of human figurines, animals, foliage, and geometric
drawings.
While some have paled over time, others are still very visible. They also discovered rock
art and open-air ceremonial sites.
Banani Bhattacharyya, deputy director of the department of archaeology and museums
informed, “So far, cave paintings in Delhi-NCR have only been found here. The paintings
are yet to be dated but at least some of them belong to the Upper Palaeolithic period in
all likelihood. We are viewing the paintings in continuation with the Soanian culture
which has been found in Shivalik hills, Narmada and Aravallis.”
Most of the cave paintings found were in ochre colour, but some were in white. As per
experts, cave paintings in white are usually from a later stage (early contemporary era),
while
Stone Age paintings are more often than not in ochre. “Stone age paintings generally
use red and ochre colours. Stones of these colour used to be available locally and
inhabitants crushed the stones for preparing the colour for paintings,” added
Bhattacharyya.
The Upper Paleolithic Age began around 40,000 years ago and lasted till around 10,000
years ago. While yet to be established through archaeological dating, Bhattacharyya
says the
Mangar cave art is 20,000-40,000 years old. Bhattacharyya claimed that the discovery is
extremely significant. “Starting from the Lower Palaeolithic to Middle Palaeolithic then
Upper
Palaeolithic, we see the evolution here. We have found significant remains from Lower
Palaeolithic till Middle and Upper Palaeolithic period too,” she explained. “Though tools
from the Palaeolithic Age have been identified earlier in parts of the Aravallis, it is for
the first time that cave paintings and rock art of a large magnitude have been found in
Haryana,” she added.
34. The cave paintings found in Aravalli hills are significant mainly because

D. they depict the evolution from Lower to Upper Paleolithic period.
35. Most of the cave paintings found in Mangar forest area in Haryana are in which
colour?
A. black
B. white
C. red
D. ochre

paintings.

drawings.

Explanations
1. C) 'We should sorted out' भें 'sorted' का प्रमोग गरत है क्मोंकक modal verb 'should'
के साथ base form (i.e. V1 ) का प्रमोग होता है । सही वाक्म होगा: 'We should sort out'.
The use of 'sorted' in 'We should sorted out' is incorrect because the base form
of the verb is used with the modal verb 'should'. The correct sentence would be:
'We should sort out'
2. D) DCAB
Women Talking, adapted by the writer-director Sarah Polley from Miriam Toews’s 2018
novel, is vibrant cinema. Polley lends the central conversation a visual gravitas normally
reserved for epics. . She shot the movie on the widest canvas possible using the same
kind of equipment that captured Star Wars landscapes, and applied a muted colour
grading to every frame. She said last year that she wanted the ensemble film to look like
“a faded postcard”.

The most important day I remember in all my life is the one on which my teacher, Anne
Mansfield Sullivan, came to me and I am filled with wonder when I consider the
immeasurable contrasts between the two lives which it connects and it was the third of
March, 1887, three months before I was seven years old. On the afternoon of that
eventful day, I stood on the porch, dumb, expectant and guessed vaguely from my
mother's signs and from the hurrying to and fro in the house that something unusual
was about to happen, so I went to the door and waited on the steps. The afternoon sun
penetrated the mass of honeysuckle that covered the porch, and fell on my upturned
face and my fingers lingered almost unconsciously on the familiar leaves and blossoms
which had just come forth to greet the sweet southern spring. I did not know what the
future held of marvel or surprise for me and anger and bitterness had preyed upon me
continually for weeks and a deep languor had succeeded this passionate struggle.

observing the event is also likely to be looking out for social evidence. Since we all prefer

भुहावया "pay attention" है । इसलरए, "pay" सफसे उऩमुक्त ववकल्ऩ होगा।
Pay attention (phrase) – take notice of someone or something.
'Pay' should be used because in the entire context, the sentence is discussing the
ability of students to focus in the botany class. The correct idiom in English for
giving focus is "pay attention". Thus, "pay" would be the most appropriate
choice.
9. C) BCDA
After the terrible accident A car took Raman to the hospital The two men carried him to

'Smarter and stronger' should be used because the sentence emphasizes Tia's
desire to have her dog be more intelligent and robust compared to Larry's dog.
The use of the word "than" indicates a comparison, suggesting that a
comparative degree should be used. Thus, "smarter and stronger" would be the
most appropriate choice.

English Madhyam 19

• 'blew' should be used because the sentence refers to a past event, and the past tense
of "blow" is "blew". In "The wind________ so powerfully that the door closed", it's
talking about the wind blowing forcefully, thus "blew" would be the correct choice.

'Quite' should be used because it means to a considerable extent or degree.

'Randomly' means without method or conscious decision, and 'Seldom' means
not often or rarely, which don't fit in this context.

decompose. Whereas, 'Through' implies going via or through something, 'Out'
means outside, and 'Even' means also or until, which don't fit in this context.
33. B) 'Inhibiting' का प्रमोग होगा क्मोंकक "inhibiting" का अथभ होता है योकना मा फार्धत

here. We have found significant remains from Lower Palaeolithic till Middle and
Upper Palaeolithic period too." Whereas the other options are not explicitly
highlighted or are not extraordinary in the context of the passage.

context.
