Code/Credit : MAT1.62.5012/3
Study Program/Faculty : Mathematics/FMIPA
Week :3

1. Objective
The objective of the task is to evaluate student’s competency in localization
of roots topic.

2. Problems
Note:
The parameter p, q, and r are the three last digit of your student number.
1. Use graph method to find the location of roots of the following nonlinear
equations.
a) 2x2  1  cos x = 0
b) ex + 2  tan x = 0
c) (x  q)2 + ln x = r
2. Use tabulation method to find the location of roots of the following
nonlinear equations.
a) 2x2 + x + 1  sin x = 0
b) ex + 2 – tan x = 0
c) e2x-1  qx2 + cos 2x = r
3. Find the roots composition (using Descartes’ Rules) and disc of roots of
the equations below, then use graph from MAPLE and output from
MATLAB to confirm it.
a) x6 + 4x3  2x2  x  1 = 0
b) 2x9  3x7 + 2x5  x3 + 5x2  x + 6 = 0
c) 3x7 + x6  3x5  2x4 + px3 + (1)qx2 + rx  2 = 0
