Assignment 2

This assignment is due on December 4th 2023 23.59 p.m.

Please show your work to receive full credits. Please write your answers in the simplified forms.

(In this problem set, there are some problems that you do not have to turn in. I do not want to put them
together at the end of the problem set because that will interrupt the logical order of these problems. Even
though you do not have to turn them in, they will be helpful for you in preparing for the midterm exam.)

1) Locate the following complex numbers on the complex plane:

a. (2 + 𝑖)(3 − 𝑖) + 2
Solution:

b. −(2 + 𝑖)(3 + 𝑖)

11) Inequality of Modulus

In class, we have proven various properties of modulus involving equality. In this
problem, we explore one property of modulus involving inequality. By using complex
plane, prove that
|𝑧1 + 𝑧2 | ≤ |𝑧1 | + |𝑧2 |.
(Hint: Use a property of triangle.)
