Engineering Management Reflection
1. I would notify my client, the Town Engineer, of this event via a phone call. A phone call
is much more personable than an email and would allow me to properly discuss the
details of the event/change.
2. The design omission should be handled through whatever change-order process was
designated in the contractors contract. Going through the official and agreed upon
change-order process will ensure that both parties are catered to and properly
compensated.
3. I would proceed by notifying the client and the contractor. I would begin the discussion
with the contractor to gauge the feasibility and timeline of the fire chief’s request. I
would need cost and material data to properly inform the client of the changes.
4. The town and client need to stick to a strict timeline, so the timeline should not be
impacted. However, this will mean increased costs to account for additional personnel
and/or overtime work to implement the changes on the strict timeline - there will also be
additional costs due to the extra material and planning.
5. I would approach the client about the change in budget only once I have the proper data
from the contractor. This will allow me to properly discuss why the cost will increase .
