Subject: Offtake of foodgrains allocated under National Food Security Act (NFSA) -reg

Sir/Madam,

I am directed to refer to extant guidelines for otake of foodgrains according to

which foodgrains allocated for a month should be lifted upto last date of the month
preceding the allocation month. It has been observed that some States/UTs have been
seeking extension of lifting period citing various issues.

2. In this regard, discussions held with all States/UTs in the VC on 29th December 2022
under the Chairmanship of Secretary (F&PD) may be referred to.

3. In view of the decision of Govt of India for Free of cost foodgrains distribution under
NFSA w.e.f. 1 st January, 2023, it has been decided to allow one time extension upto
31.01.2023 to complete the lifting of foodgrains allocated under NFSA for the period
October, 2022 - December, 2022, to all States/UTs. No extension for lifting of
foodgrains allocated under NFSA for the period till December, 2022, shall be
allowed by this Department beyond 31.01.2023.
