Islamic Perspective:

Clinicians while working with traumatized patients like everyone else also experience

stress for a variety of reasons. One of them is the nature of the work itself, the primary causes

which may be emotionally and psychologically taxing. On a daily basis, when they may be

exposed to horrific stories and experiences, it will lead them to feel helplessness. At the end

therapists get symptoms comparable to those of their patients result in experiences of vicarious

trauma. The factors that will contribute to develop stress are long hours, heavy caseloads, and a

lack of support or resources, to avoid burnout and keep their jobs, clinicians must participate in

frequent self-care activities and seek help when they required.

All humans’ beings are unique and essential to Allah in Islam. When Muslims comes to

adopting self-care - mind, body, and spirit, this idea may be effective for many young Muslims.

It is our responsibility to take care of our health as a Muslim. And avoid anything that will cause

harm to us.

As per the teaching of Quran, Islam is seen as both a belief system and way of life (Al-

Hilali & Khan, 1994). Self-care teachings is one of the Quranic guidance about health (Java¯di-

ye A¯moli, 2007). The first step in Islam, is caring for oneself (Sadat Hoseini, Alhani, Khosro-

Panah, & Behjatpour, 2013). Self-care is considered to be of believers’ characteristics according

to Quran (Javadi-ye-Amuli, 2014), and disobey the guidance results in destruction and suffering

in hell (Quran 66:6, 2:195). Moral imperative for everyone, and as well as a man’s own right is

regarded as caring for one’s physical health .In this regard, Motahhari said that “ ‘self-
indulgence’, meaning ‘self nurturing and sensuality’, is condemns by Islam but it defines body

growth as duty, that is, caring for health and hygiene”(Motahhari, 1994).

According to Islamic literature, self-care practices are anchored on a complete view of

health perception. In Islamic culture, health is described as having many sorts of good physical,

mental, social, and spiritual characteristics. It will allow a person to live a fulfilling life (ShoJaei,

2010). Since all areas of human existence interrelate with one another, such a feeling of health

demands that human’s pay attention to all aspects of their existence.

Religious Practices in Islam

By perform certain religious practices can be used to help clinician overcome trauma.

Religious practices can help individuals to feel more connected to a higher power or to a
community of believers such as prayer, meditation, and reading religious texts. This can offer

them with a sense of comfort and support that is particularly important for individuals who have

experienced trauma. For understanding and coping with difficult life events, it can provide

individuals with a framework. Religious teachings and practices that accentuate forgiveness,

compassion, and resilience, so it would be helpful for individuals who are struggling to cope

with trauma.

Self-care isn’t just limited to the physical needs, such as eating in moderation and

exercising. It’s also about make your life productive, you should preserve positive and healthy

relationships with people. And the act of self-care is also praying to Allah to keep you away from

evil person and nurture you with new and current friendships which retain my soul happy. Islam

also teaches us to care for others and be selfless, it also emphasize that we need to determine

self-care too. Aisha r.a reported the Prophet s.a.w said:

Verily, your peculiar self has rights over you, so fast and halt your fast, pray and sleep.”

If you do not respect your own time and health, it would be impossible to care for others

which Allah (swt) has granted upon you. Being kind to yourself can ultimately make you a more

productive person by provided that you with the energy to do your activities more effectively.

(Sunan Abi Dawud).

Abu Darda r.a, the Prophet’s companion said:

A righteous friend is better than being in private, and solitary is better than a bad

companion.”
It is essential to read the Quran and offer pray, but dhikr, or remembering Allah in your

heart and by your everyday speech, is as essential. Dhikr is also recurrently rendered as

"mindfulness." Self-care also states thankfulness to Allah (swt) for your health and well-being.

Be thankful and I will give you more…And if you would (try to) count the good turn of

Allah, you could not count them.”(Quran, 14:7-34)

Conclusion:

In conclude we should preserve ourselves, nurture yourself take care of our life so it will

serves us in future. Other parameter of life also depend upon it so look after yourself. Try to

create a balance in your life and give each of them their right equally.
