Location

The country is located in the West Atlantic Ocean

The Bahamas is an archipelago of nearly 700 coral islands. Around 30 of the islands are
inhabited. The Bahamas sits in the West Atlantic Ocean, 100 kilometres south-east of Florida in
the United States and 80 kilometres north-east of Cuba. The islands are generally flat and low-
lying.

Religion

Christian
History. The islands' population is predominantly Christian. Protestant denominations
collectively account for more than 70% of the population, with Baptists representing 35% of
the population, Anglicans 15%, Pentecostals 8%, Church of God 5%, Seventh-day Adventists 5%
and Methodists 4%.

Climate
The Bahamas is located on the boundary of the tropical and subtropical zones and, as such, has
a semi-tropical or subtropical marine climate, which is moderated by the warm waters of the
Gulf Stream.

Languages

There are two primary languages spoken in the Bahamas: Bahamian Creole or Bahamian
English, which is spoken by most people, and Haitian Creole, which is spoken by about 25% of
the population. One is an English-based Creole language and the other is a French-based
Creole language.
