The
Natural
reserve
of Punta
Tombo-a
review
If you are fascinated by penguins and you want to see them in the wild a trip to
Antarctica is what comes to mind at first. But this isn’t a cheap option so a trip to see
the Punta Tombo penguins in Argentina is far more economical. The National Reserve of
Punta Tombo is the largest penguin colony outside of Antarctica.

My holiday there was unforgettable. Me and my family rented a car and did a self-drive
tour. If you choose this option be warned that some of the gravel roads are quite soft and
it’s not rare to see window damage, I recommend that you get insurance. When you pull
into Punta Tombo at the Interpretation Center after the long drive be sure to take 30
minutes to walk through the fabulous displays. The museum is small and has an excellent
flow that will keep you moving towards the ultimate goal of visiting the penguins in Punta
Tombo.

Along the route there are many penguins relaxing in their nests along the edges, or
calling or gathering in small groups. It’s not rare to find yourself walking along with
penguins on the boardwalk or having them waddle across your path as you explore.
Although penguins are harmless and they are not aggressive at all, if they feel threatened
they will defend themselves with their strong, sharp beak. Because of that there is a
strict rule to keep a distance from them.

All in all, I highly recommend visiting this destination and exploring the wild penguins.
