Introduction

Buildings do not just appear out of nowhere. It takes collaboration of people of different skills, energy, money,
materials, machines, and time to make it happen. In this 5-week project, students will need to understand the detail
of construction industry; the construction procedures, phases and the main people involve in making a building. At
the end of this short semester students are required to present their understanding about the roles, responsibilities,
professionalism traits of each team member in the construction

Objectives of Project

The objectives of this project:

1.To introduce the scope of work handled by professionals and sub-professionals in their respective
professions both in the public and the private sectors in Malaysia.
2.To enable students to develop an understanding of the building team, its organization, their duties,
responsibilities and the inter-relationship within which they will seek employment, career progression
or further study.
3.To develop an awareness of their professional responsibilities and to appreciate their profession in the
construction industry

Learning Outcomes of this Project

On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to demonstrate the followings (MLO):

2. Explain the roles and responsibilities of the entities touching briefly the legal and contractual
procedures and impact.
3. Explain the need to coordinate and develop an understanding of coherent working relations among
various industry players and to improve the communication channels.
4. Ability to document their observations and understanding from interview session and research
resources as well as to communicate their findings in a systematic and convincing presentation and
reports.
5. Obtain confidence through reporting and presenting their works in the class to discuss matters of
design and construction issues and inter-relationship among design/construction parties involved in
the construction industry.

Tasks - Methodology

“The Rest House Project

Photo example/inspiration of a rest house

Scenario:
A client intend to develop/build a 4 unit single/double-storey Boutique Rest House with a swimming pool
in a specific location in Malaysia. As a professional team players in construction industry, you are to
propose a detail direction of the project.

INSTRUCTION:
In a group of 4 students, based on lecture given and extended group research, you are to conduct a
study on the topic of:

Rest House Project: “The Roles & Responsibilities of the Players in the Construction Industry through
Construction stages"

The task is to present an in depth understanding about the roles, responsibilities and involvements of
team players in the construction industry of a building project. Students are required to elaborate
evidently on the players involved, process, procedures through stages of the construction.

In a group, you are suggested to use a canva ‘A4 DOCUMENT’ template for progress and
final outcome and submission.

You are to start off your proposal by detailing the info of the project based on the option given in the
“Checklist A” table below:

Requirements of Submission

Submission will be in the form of PDF format and submit through google form that will be
posted on FB GROUP on the submission week.

• Students are advised to use Canva ‘A4 DOCUMENT’ VERTICAL template for progress and
final outcome, however if preferred to use other medium pls consult with the lecturer first.
• The Front Cover shall include the project tittle, the subject, and the batch, student’s names,
tutors name, and Taylor’s College logo.
• Presentation slide must not exceed 17 pages.
• Reference must be placed at the last slideand placed under each section.

Assessment & Marking criteria

Marks shall be distributed as follows:

CONTENT: 40% MARKS (accumulation of progresses and final submission marks)


1(a) Demonstrated clear and correct information/findings of the roles, task, responsibilities, and
involvement of the construction industry team players in the construction process through
project stages, procedures and meeting the requirements of the given “scenario”.

1(b) Depth of the research, elaboration, explanations, informative illustrations, articulation between
the roles of the team players and the construction process,

LAYOUT: 10% MARKS (evaluated only for final submission)


Clarity of content, sequence, info composition delivery, style, format, layout, graphic/diagrams and
meeting the requirements of an infographic/diagrammatic presentation style

Total = 50%
