SYNOPSIS

Introduction
The "Placement Prediction Using Machine Learning" project seeks to create a predictive model
that helps educational institutions anticipate a student's placement likelihood based on a variety
of academic and personal characteristics. This would be essential in helping schools improve
their placement methods and giving students insights into their placement possibilities in the
competitive labour market of today.
This project acknowledges the complexity of employability. It recognizes that a student's
placement possibilities are shaped by their academic performance, technical competence,
communication skills, and experience learning. The initiative seeks to offer a thorough picture of
each student's preparation for the labour market via the methodical examination of these
characteristics.

Problem Statement
Can we predict the likelihood that a student will be hired by a firm based on a variety of criteria,
including academic achievement, skill set, and prior job experience?
The traditional method of job placement frequently results in less than ideal results for both
students and educational institutions since it mainly depends on subjective evaluations and broad
criteria. This study aims to address this issue by developing a data-driven approach to improve
the precision and effectiveness of placement predictions.

Objective
The primary objective is to present a comprehensive framework for predicting job placements
using advanced machine-learning techniques. The following specific objectives guide the
research:
• Develop a Predictive Model: The project aims to design and construct a predictive
model that takes into account a diverse array of input variables, including academic
performance, skills, internship experiences, and extracurricular activities. By training the
model on historical placement data available online
• Empower Students: The project seeks to empower students by providing them with a
data-driven tool to assess their readiness for the job market. By identifying areas of
improvement and aligning their skills with industry demands, students can make more
informed decisions about their career paths.

2
• Contribution to Educational Institutions: The project aims to contribute to the field of
education by offering insights into refining placement strategies. By understanding the
factors that lead to successful placements, institutions can optimize their curriculum and
support services.
The project will delve into the methodology, data collection, feature engineering, model
selection, and ethical considerations underlying the "Placement Prediction Using Machine
Learning" project. Through these objectives, the paper contributes to the advancement of
predictive analytics in education, ultimately benefiting both students and our institution in their
pursuit of successful job placements.

Hypothesis
• Null Hypothesis (H0): The individual attributes and variables considered in the model
have no significant impact on predicting job placement outcomes.
• Alternative Hypothesis (H1): The selected attributes and variables significantly influence
the prediction of job placement outcomes.
Attributes selected
o Stream of Education
o Backlogs
o CGPA
o Internships
o Work Experience

Literature Review
• “Students Placement Prediction Using Machine Learning Algorithms” – Kajal Rai
Saraswat (March 2022), This paper analyses students placement data from the previous
academic year and use it to estimate the likelihood that current students will be placed on
campus. Four alternative machine learning techniques, including Logistic Regression,
Decision Tree, K Nearest Neighbours and Random Forest have been tested for this. It
defines the importance of placement for both the students and institutions in Indian
education system.

• “Data Mining Approach for Predicting Student and Institutions Placement Percentage” –
Prof. Ashok M, 2016 - The author of this research employed data mining to estimate the
placement of the students. The data has been separated into two parts for the prediction of
a student's placement; the first section is the training segment, which consists of historical
data on students who have graduated. A second section includes student data that is
currently available. The author developed the method for predicting placement
possibilities based on historical data. Numerous data mining techniques, including

decision trees, Naive Bayes, neural networks, and the Prosed algorithm, have been
employed by the author. Decisions are produced with the use of confusion matrices.

• “Student Placement Analyzer: A Recommendation System Using Machine Learning” -

Senthil Kumar Thangavel. June 2017 - The author of the paper is concerned with the
difficulties that each institute must encounter when it comes to placement. When there
are more entities at a given institute, placement prediction becomes more difficult. This
difficult prediction problem may be readily resolved with the use of machine learning. All
of the student's academic achievements are taken into account in this document. Naive
Bayes, Decision Trees, SVMs, and Regressions are just a few of the categorization and
data-making techniques employed. After making their predictions, the students might be
assigned to the Core Company, Dream Company, or Support Services category.

• "A Placement Prediction System Using KNearest Neighbors Classifier" - Animesh Giri,
M Vignesh, 2016 - This placement prediction method uses K-Nearest Neighbours
classification to estimate the likelihood that students will be hired by different firms. The
outcome is also contrasted with outcomes from other machine learning models, such as
SVM and Logistic Regression. Students' academic records are taken into consideration,
as well as their programming, communication, analytical, and teamwork abilities, which
are examined by employers throughout the hiring process. For this system, data from the
previous two batches is used.

• “Student Placement Analyzer: A Recommendation System Using Machine” 2020 JETIR

May 2020, Volume 7, Issue 5, Apoorva Rao R, Deeksha K C - It is a considerably more
difficult effort for educational institutions to keep track of every single student and
manually estimate where they will be placed. In order to address these issues, the idea of
machine learning and various algorithms are investigated in order to forecast the
performance of class pupils. The model is trained using the training data set, which
consists of previous student data. According to five categories—dream company, core
company, mass recruiter, ineligible, and not interested in placements—this software
system forecasts placement status. Additionally beneficial to weaker pupils, this system.
Weaker students might receive extra attention from institutions to help them achieve
better. All data will be monitored by the Nave Bayes algorithm, and the proper judgement
will be made.

Research Methodology
• Information is gathered from a number of sources, such as academic transcripts, resumes,
and previous employment experience, in order to predict placement.
• The collected data is then corrected and preprocessed to remove any errors or
contradictions.

4
• The data is separated into two groups after cleaning: training data and testing data.
• The training data are used to program the machine learning algorithm, while the testing
data are used to evaluate its performance. Numerous techniques such as
o Neural networks
o Decision trees Classifier
o Support Vector Machines
o Naïve Bayes
o KNN
o SGD Classifier
o Regression analysis
