Emirates History
Emirates was founded by the Royal
Family in 1985 who funded $10 million
USD and support from Pakistan
International Airlines.
Airline first flight was from Dubai to

Back in 2020, Emirates airline,
like many other airlines
around the world, faced
significant challenges due to
COVID-19. The airline industry
was severely impacted by the
pandemic, leading to a dramatic
decrease in global air travel
demand.
Circumstances faced by Emirates Airline
● Sharp decline in passenger demand: Emirates had to cancel a significant
portion of its flights and temporarily suspend services to many
destinations.
● Financial Crisis: Due to the reduced amount of passengers, Airline had the
annual loss of AED 22.1 billion loss (US$ 6 Billion) first time in three
decades ever.
● Health and Safety measures: Airline had to invest in health and safety
measures to reassure passengers and staff.
● Travel Restrictions: As the situation with the pandemic evolved, different
countries implemented various travel restrictions, quarantine
requirements, and border closures.
SOLUTIONS
Solutions to overcome the loss
● The airline should reduce
non-essential expenses such as
marketing and negotiate with the
suppliers for better pricing terms.
● If there were sharp decline in
passengers, the airline should
increase their cargo service to
overcome the latest loss and can
run their company by providing
best service in cargo with all
health and safety measures.
● Prioritize passenger and
employee safety with rigorous
health and safety measures,
which can help rebuild
customer confidence in air
travel.
● Temporarily reduce flights on
low demand routes and ● Seek financial assistance or
reallocate resources to more subsidies from the government
profitable routes. to cover operating costs,
employees salary and other
essential expenses during times
of crisis.
