APPLICATIONS
Omnirad 1870 may be used, after adequate testing, in applications such as UV-curable
formulations for clear and for pigmented coatings on wood, metal, plastic, paper and particularly
optical applications like i.e. optical fibers or adhesives.

Omnirad 1870 may be used as the sole Photoinitiator in UV Curable systems or in combination
with other Photoinitiators to optimise the cure or other properties. A typical combination for
balanced through and surface cure is with Omnirad 1173.

Formulated product properties will depend on the actual reactive monomers, oligomers and
additives utilized.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

Due to its wide absorption spectrum, Omnirad 1870 is a high reactive photoinitiator with good
through cure properties.

Omnirad 1870 exhibits at low concentrations an outstanding curing performance in highly

opaque white and coloured furniture coatings or screen inks containing rutile titanium dioxide
or coloured pigments and affords minimum yellowing after exposure to sufficient amounts of UV
radiation. Additionally the outstanding absorption properties of Omnirad 1870 allow the curing
of thick layers .

Omnirad 1870, in combination with Omnirad 1173, is especially suitable to cure polyester/styrene
resins used for glass-fiber reinforced materials.

RECOMMENDED ADDITION LEVELS
The amount of Omnirad 1870 required for optimum performance should be determined in trials
covering a concentration range:

Clear coatings : 0.1 - 0.3 % Omnirad 1870 + 1 - 2 % Omnirad 1173

White furniture coatings: 0.2 - 0.5 % Omnirad 1870 + 1 - 2 % Omnirad 1173
White screen inks: 0.4 - 0.8 % Omnirad 1870 + 1.5 - 3 % Omnirad 1173
Glass-fibers reinforced materials: 0.3 - 0.8 % Omnirad 1870 + 0.5 - 1 % Omnirad 1173
UV powder: 1.0 – 1.5 % Omnirad 1870 + 1.0 – 1.5% Omnirad 1173
