Harry Styles Biography

Harry Edward Styles was born in February 1st, 1994, in Worcesterchire,

England. Nowadays he is most known as a highly successful singer-
songwriter,and as an ex-member of the boy band “One Direction” but
besides that he is also an actor, fashion icon, philantropist and
entrepeneur.
Styles was raised in the village of Holmes Chapel, Cheshire,by his parents,
Anne Twist and Desmond Styles. When he was seven years old, his
parents divorced; Thereafter, he and his older sister, Gemma Styles, were
raised by their mother.
Harry’s passion for music started at a very young age. While still at school,
he joined the band White Eskimo as the lead singer, almost predicting his
future in the music industry.
In 2010, encouraged by his mother, Styles auditioned for British TV show
The X Factor, where he performed “Isn’t She Lovely”, by Stevie Wonder.
Although he didn’t make it on his own, he was grouped with 4 other
contestants (Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan) to
compete as a group on the show.
The five-member boyband became known as One Direction, named at
the suggestion of Styles, and got in 3rd place at the final round of the
competition.
The group’s debut album, “Up All Night” came out in november 2011, in
which Harry cowrote 3 songs. This album sold more than 4.5 million
copies worldwhile and its first singe, “What Makes You Beautiful” became
one of the best selling songs of all time, currently with more than one
billion views on youtube.
After this album, 4 other albums came out : “Take Me Home” (2012),
“Midnight Memories” (2013), “Four” (2014) and “Made in the A.M.”
(2015). Besides the albums, One direction also made 4 world tours and 2
movies. In march 2015, Zayn left the band, due to management
problems, and consequently he did not participate nor on the 5th album
nor in their last tour. Shortly after that, in january 2016, One Direction
announces they are going on a hiatus, being their last show back to
where it all started, in The X Factor.
In 2017, Harry embarked on his solo carrer releasing his self-titled debut
album “Harry Styles”, featuring the hit single “Sign of the Times”. This
album’s success marked his transition from a boy band sensation to a
respected solo artist.
As his solo artist career was beggining, so was his film actor one, with the
release of “Dunkirk”, a war film directed by Christopher Nolan which
Styles participated.
Soon after, his first tour as a solo artist began, the “Live on Tour”, that
went from september 2017 untill july 2018.
Following his debut album success, “Fine Line” was released in 2019 and
it broke U.S. sales records for a British male singer. In addition, the single
“Watermelon Sugar” spent 39 weeks on the Billboard chart Hot 100, 1 of
them as number 1. This single also got Styles his first ever Grammy
award, for best solo performance and BRIT Award for British Single of the
year. The success of “Fine Line” allowed Harry to make his first ever
performance at the Grammy Awards Ceremony in 2021, where he sang
“Watermelon Sugar”.Other well known songs from this album are “Adore
You”, “Golden” and “Lights Up”.
In november of the same year, Harry and his crew announced a 2020
world tour: “Love on Tour” that then was pushed to 2021 due to covid.
This tour had 7 legs and broke innumerous records, including 15 sold out
followed nights in Madison Square Garden and a breaking attendance
record for Wembley Stadium. It went untill July 2023 and had 2 dates in
Portugal: One in Altice arena, at 31st July 2022, being the last show of the
first european leg and the other in Passeio Marítimo de Algés at 18th July
2023, being this one the penultimate Love on Tour show.
In november 2021, Harry Styles’ second movie comes out, Marvel’s
“Eternals”, where he participates in the last post-credits scene. Although
his part was short, this movie was a starting point for Styles in the Marvel
Cinematic Universe, and it’s very likely that in the future he will
participate in more MCU movies.
Outside music and acting, Harry has ventured into the business world. In
this same month, he co-founded the beauty brand “Pleasing” alongside a
long time friend, Lou Teasdale. Pleasing focus on creating gender-neutral
and sustainable beauty products, such as make up and skin care,
reflecting Styles’ commitment to inclusivity and environmental
responsibility. Most recently the “Pleasing Fragrance” was announced,
being the first fragrance of his beauty brand, and it will be arriving this
month, November 2023.
Back to his music career, in the beggining of 2022, Harry Styles is
announced as headline for Coachella 2022, one of the most famous
festivals around the world. Shortly after, his 3rd solo album, “Harry’s
House” is announced and about 1 month later its first single “As It Was” is
released. This album debuted as number 1 in the UK albums chart and
broke the record for biggest vinyl sales week, in just 3 days. “As It Was”
was the most listened song in 2022 and “Harry’s House” won the
Grammy Award for Album Of The Year (AOTY), among many other
awards. Other famous songs of this album are “Late Night Talking” and
“Matilda”.
Continuing his acting career, Harry performed a leading role in the
psychological thriller “Don’t Worry Darling”, directed by Olivia Wilde. Also
in 2022, Styles Starred in the romantic drama “My Policeman”, a film
directed by Michael Grandage set in the 1950s, inspired by Bethan
Roberts’ novel.
Already in 2023, Harry Styles performed “As It Was” in the Grammy
Awards ceremony and had 7 new waxworks of himself in Madame
Tussauds London.
Beyond his music and acting, Harry Styles is also celebrated for his
distintictive fashion choices. He became a fashion icon, often pushing
boundaries with his gender-fluid and wide-ranging style. Some of the
most marking events of his fashion career were the participation in the
2019 Met Gala, the cover he made for Vogue, in December 2020, his
featuring in Guccis HA HA HA collection, alongside Alessandro Michele
(Gucci’s creative director) and most recently with Adidas renaming their
Gazelle trainers to “Sattelite Stompers” in honour of Styles’ love for the
shoes he uses to do his stompy dance with on stage.
