THE GREEDY MOUSE

Participant: Muhammad Fariduddin Afif Bin Firdaus

Once upon a time, there was a black mouse called Mus. He lived alone in the roof of a big
house. The mouse had no food for many days and he was so hungry. He tried to look for food
everywhere but he could not find any food. As days pass by, he became very thin. “Oh, I’m
going to die. Help! Help!” he shouted.

The next day, the mouse saw a basket full of corn. “Wow! Yummy corn!” He was so happy.
He wanted to eat the corn. So, he made a small hole in the basket and he squeezed in through
the hole. He ate a lot of corn. He shouted happily: “Yummy, yummy!” He felt really full after
eating a lot of corn. He became really fat.

Now, he wanted to come out. He tried to come out through the small hole but this time, he
could not. His belly was big and full. He tried again and again. But it was of no use.

“Oh God! Let me come out, how can I come out?” the mouse started crying. A rabbit was
passing by. He heard the mouse’s cry and asked: “Why are you crying my friend?”

The mouse explained: “I made a small hole and came into the basket. Now I am not able to get
out through the hole. I am in a trouble, please help me.”

The rabbit said: “Don’t worry, you can’t come out because you ate too much. Wait til your
belly shrinks.” The rabbit laughed and went away.

The mouse did not give up. He tried again and again to come out through the small hole. After
so many times trying to come out, the mouse was too tired and fell asleep in the basket.

The next morning, his belly had shrunk and became small again. He was so happy. “Now I can
come out!” But this time, he was so greedy and wanted to eat some corn again. He forgot all
about getting out of the basket. So he ate and ate. One, two, three, four, five and finally, his
belly was big and full once again. The mouse suddenly remembered that he had to get out. But
he couldn’t because his belly was too big. He thought: “Oh, never mind. I will wait one more
time and go out tomorrow.”

Later, the cat was the next passerby. This time the mouse was not lucky. The cat smelt the
mouse in the basket. He lifted its lid and he saw the mouse. The mouse was so scared but he
could not run. “Oh no! Please, don’t eat me!” the mouse said. The cat did not listen and ate the
mouse. Oh, poor mouse. THE END.
