REFUNDS – TERMS AND CONDITIONS

• If a student obtains funds from other sources which are more than sufficient to cover all fees,
refunds to students may be made only at the end of the academic year and to the extent allowed
by the funder.
• In cases where payment is made by the sponsor or donor a WRITTEN authorisation from the
sponsor for refund will be required.
• Funds for other purposes, e.g. text books or living expenses, may be withdrawn upon the submission
of request (once the funds have been credited to the fee account) and authorised by the sponsor.
• No refunds will be made to NSFAS students having credit balances on their account. All credit
balances will be returned to NSFAS as a first repayment on the loan or as a credit on the bursary
allocation.
• Refunds will only be paid into the bank account in the name of the student to prevent fraud.
• For security reasons, the University does not edit or amend the bank details or the amount claimed
should there be an issue or an error. It is only the applicant that can update banking details or the
amount claimed. This means refunds cannot be processed until the issue or error has been corrected
by the applicant.
• To avoid delays, please ensure that all the details submitted are correct.

• For branch codes, please use universal branch codes as follows:

• Ensure that there is no space after the last digit of the branch code or account number and that
the account type (savings or current) is correct.
• A refund cannot be processed if any of these details are incorrect. We cannot edit or amend
incorrect banking details for security reasons.

ENQUIRIES
We will take 1 – 2 weeks to process refunds if bank details and the amount requested are correct. If
your refund has not been processed within two weeks, please send an email to refunds@wsu.ac.za
using the subject refunds and student number.
