    A rainbow is a meteorological and optical phenomenon caused by sunlight refracting through water droplets, resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. When white sunlight enters water droplets from rain, it refracts and disperses into the visible color spectrum in the order of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. For a rainbow to form, sunlight must pass through water droplets and be viewed from an angle of 40-42 degrees opposite the sun. Rainbows can also occasionally be seen at night if there is a nearby light source such as the moon.
