Reading in Philippine History

1. What is meant by the concept citizen and citizenship?

 Citizenship is a legal status of the country which grants one an ability to enjoy its benefits after
satisfying certain conditions required as the necessary requirement for one to become a citizen
of that country. Any person involved in the affairs of their country politically and socially can
be referred as a citizen, taking part in governing and running the issues at hand. On the other
hand, this leads to a reciprocal relationship of rights with responsibilities of citizenship
towards the country. In exchange for these privileges, the citizens should obey laws, support
and protect the welfare of the country from adversarial forces.

2. What are the 3 kinds of domain over which the Philippines exercise jurisdiction?
 The Philippines exercises jurisdiction over three distinct domains within its national territory.
The terrestrial domain comprises the Philippine archipelago, encompassing all islands and
terrestrial landmass under Philippine sovereignty. The fluvial domain encompasses both
internal waters such as rivers, lakes, and external waters like the Exclusive Economic Zone
(EEZ), where the Philippines holds jurisdiction over marine resources and related activities in
accordance with international maritime laws. Lastly, the aerial domain denotes the airspace
above Philippine territory, over which the country exercises control, regulating air traffic and
related activities within its aerial boundaries. These three domains collectively delineate the
areas where the Philippines holds legal authority and governance.

3. In what ways can Filipino citizens be lost?

 Filipino citizenship can be lost through various means: by voluntarily becoming a naturalized
citizen of another country, renouncing Filipino citizenship and pledging allegiance elsewhere,
acquiring foreign citizenship without following recognized dual citizenship procedures,
serving in a foreign military without Philippine government permission, having naturalization
in another country canceled or invalidated, or being convicted of treason against the
Philippines.
