BLOCK DIAGRAM DESCRIPTION
This section contains a functional description of the control panel and detailed theory
of the operation of the controller and power module used in this equipment.
Functional Description
Analog Section
This section deals with the conditioning of the signal measured from the patient using a
highly sensitive thermistor-base patient probe. Analog the switch IC U3 switches the
signals measured by the patient probe to the signal conditioning circuit. The signal
conditioning circuit consists of ICs U2 and U1 where the signal strength gets amplified
and is fed into microprocessor section.
Controller
The controller section controls the head output in the MANUAL / SERVO mode of
operation. The controller permits the heat of the warmer to be adjusted from 0% to
100% in the MANUAL mode.
During the skin mode of operation, the controller adjusts heat output of the warmer to
maintain the desired set skin temperature in this mode. The Infant measured
temperature is continuously checked with the set temperature and thereby the heater
output is controlled by the processor.
Display
The display board features the skin temperature display and set temperature display
and other user control keys. The set temperature can be viewed in the same display as
that for the skin temperature by holding the alarm mute key.
The visual /audible alarm indicator also forms a part of the display section.
The SMPS gives the regulated voltage +12V, +5 and -12 V. The -12 V converted to -5
V in the main board and the +12 V is used to charge the 9 V battery.
The control signals from the controller are given to the heater control Board which
controls the AC voltage given to the heater.
The heater section is constructed with a 600 W infra red heater coil mounted below a
polished aluminium parabolic reflector.

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
Mechanical
Check the Pillar. Make sure that the allen screws are tight.
Check the base and castors for proper portability of the equipment.
Check if the IV stand is properly fixed.
Check if the heater box is fixed properly and make sure there is no shake in the heater
box assembly.
Electrical
Open the heater box top cover.
Check the continuity of the IR Lamp. It should be in the range 18 -22.
Check whether the IR lamp is properly seated in the parabolic reflector; If not, correct
this take out the control box from the pillar.
Check the control signals from the control board, ie, Relay ON, Heater ON and Heater
Fail signals. Cross check with different settings in the front panel.
Check the probe connector and corresponding wiring.
Place the standard 3 K and 4.7 K resistors in the probe connector and check for 37°C
and 26.4°C respectively.
Place the thermistor probe, under the heater and observe for variations in the
temperature reading when heat is applied.
Check the front panel and make sure all the touch control keys are working.
Pre-Operation Checks
Cleaning the exterior part of the equipment with mild soap water.
Finally check the equipment for its operation.
Switch on the equipment for half an hour and observe its performance.
If the performance is satisfactory complete the preventive checkup and inform the
concern staff to use the equipment may be used.
Demonstrate the equipment and retrain the staff.
