ACTIVITY 7: CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

ANSWER:
1. Explain how the proverb, “A much-used plow shines; stagnant waters stink.”, related to

CPD.

A much-used plow shines;stagnant waters stink”

A professional should demonstrate their development – either growing with their

knowledge, skills and/or values. Their development is what makes them "shine" in their

profession. Lack of development will cause them to be "stinky" or rusty, not suitable for

a competent professional.

2. Reflect: Will I as a professional teacher go through CPD even if not mandated by law?

The CPD process is a journey in itself; a mirror to imagine what the future might be as

we continue to evolve and a reminder of the past of what we used to be. With the right

CPD plan, we can see positive changes in ourselves as a competent professional in our

field.

CPD is continuous until the day we leave the service. It won't stop even after you

graduate once with a master's degree or complete a seminar once. It is a never-ending

cycle that aims to develop professionally.

3. Record all your references used in answering the activity. Write them at the end of your

paper as part of your “References.”
