I have been told to use the 1.8 mk2 head and cams on the 9A lump as it breathes better than the mk3 head. As I understand it
the 9a is near identical to the 1.8 kr in many ways, it's the same height as the kr so the exhaust mounts match up, all the
mount points are the same, the gasket set is the same.
I think it's just the drive for the dizzy which needs swapping over and maybe a breather blanking off. It's on my list of things to

Yes with 9a when built mine gasket set is same apart from h/gasket so just buy 9a gasket set. Every thing from kr swops
straight over dizzy, breathers and as said above use kr inlet cam. If best find one from automatic car dont seem to be as

thrashed as manual car. My opinion anyway, You cant imagine the difference when swopped from kr to 9a. The low down

torque and power just excellent, Even better with not to wild cams and 4branch.

If it helps you find the right block the code on my 2.0 16v 6a is 2J, not 6A as I'd expected

Which block is the 6a mk2litre16v? is that the mk3 block as I thought the 9a came in audi 80 sport 16vs? anybody know the
cars these blocks came from to make it easier to source and in case a bargain is to be found in a scrappy somewhere?

about the heads, ive seen pics of 9a and kr heads and on the kr the inlet ports are better and on the 9a the exhaust ports are
better, so id be inclined to go with the kr head if you are leaving it standard, as you already have the added torque of 2l, might
as well make the top end better

6A is audi block, got to change sump and oil pump over from kr. If i remember right!! Short block like 9a, abf and agg are tall
blocks from golf, 9a from passat and corrado.

cheers for all that, but you'd say they are solid engines? i was looking through an old pvw where they had a 16v group thrash

and most of the big power cars had 9a's. thats got to be a good sign right?!
