Objective:
The primary objective of this research project is to assess the performance and
feasibility of the yam peel-derived detergent as a surfactant in EOR applications.
Specifically, the aim is to evaluate its interfacial tension reduction capabilities, oil
mobilization efficiency, and long-term stability. By comparing its effectiveness
with conventional surfactants, I would be able to determine the potential of the
yam peel-derived detergent as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative.
Methodology:
1. Literature Review:
Firstly, I would Conduct an extensive review of existing literature on EOR
methods, conventional surfactants, and alternative surfactants derived from
renewable resources.
2. Detergent production:
I would then obtain yam peels (which contain natural saponins that can act
as surfactants as they have the ability to form soap like foams when mixed
with water) convert them to powdered form and mix with Sodium carbonate
(washing soda), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and sodium silicate to
create the detergent.
3. Performance Evaluation:
I would Conduct laboratory experiments to assess the detergent's interfacial
tension reduction, oil recovery efficiency, and long-term stability under
varying reservoir conditions (temperature, pressure, salinity, etc.).
4. Comparative Analysis:
Compare the performance of the yam peel-derived detergent with
conventional surfactants commonly used in EOR such as Tween 80 and SDS
considering factors such as effectiveness, cost, and environmental impact.
5. Economic Feasibility:
I would Analyze the economic viability of utilizing the yam peel-derived
detergent in EOR applications, considering factors such as production cost,
scalability, and potential cost savings compared to conventional surfactants.
