WHAT IS MATRIMONIAL LAW ?

Matrimonial law is a branch of family law that specifically deals with issues that relate to
marriage, such as separation, divorce and child custody.
This field of law also covers matters relating to civil partnerships and long-term marriage-like
relationships.

DIVORCE (SOME KEY IDEAS)

"Divorce is the final termination of a marital union, canceling the
legal duties and responsibilities of marriage between the parties".
In the UK a person can only get a divorce if his or her marriage
has lasted for at least one year.
A solicitor or going to court is not necessary if the parties agree
on the reasons for a divorce.
The legal divorce process will take between 4 and 6 months, if
the parties agree with the divorce and the reasons why they got
it.
It may take longer if the parties need to resolve issues of money,
property or children, which will have to be done separately.

El derecho matrimonial es una rama del derecho de familia que se ocupa específicamente de
