The river of five colors’ magic

Caño Cristales is a natural wonder located in the Colombian Amazon rainforest. It is known
as the "River of Five Colors" for its beautiful shades of red, blue, green, yellow, and black. All
these vibrant colors originate the Macarenia clavigera. If you wanna apreciate its beauty, we
need to start in Villavicencio. If you don’t have a private vehicle, you can take a bus or a taxi to
La Macarena, which is the gateway to the park. Once there, a popular option is hiring a guide to
take you to Caño Cristales.
This aquatic plant blooms at certain seasons of the year, so you should plan your visit
considering that the best time is between July and November. In Caño Cristales you can go
swimming or even snorkeling! And you absolutely have to give a try to the boat ride. La
Macarena it’s a nature reserve, so you must respect the animals and surroundings.
You’ll be able to enjoy the delights of Colombian cuisine. I think you should definitely try
popular dishes like ajiaco, tamales and arepas. There are also a variety of tropical fruits available,
so if you’re lucky enough, you could bring with you one or two mangoes, and you shouldn’t
miss your bottle of water or juice to prevent dehydration.
