Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de las Lajas

Welcome to Destinations Tour. Today we will visit El Santuario de las Lajas, this
imposing Basilica, considered a tourist wonder of Colombia, rises in the department of
Nariño, at 2,900 meters above sea level. built between 1916 and 1949 on the Guáitara
river canyon, less than ten kilometers from the border with Ecuador and dedicated to
Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Las Lajas.

Recognized in the world as one of the most beautiful temples, the Sanctuary of
Nuestra Señora del Rosario de las Lajas and its splendid construction attracts the sight
of thousands of Colombians and foreigners who repeatedly visit the temple, The
cathedral is a temple of romantic and Elegant structure, in its interior part it presents
Doric styles, the oldest of the classical architectural orders. The temple consists of four
wide naves and a symmetrical main façade. The altar is made of 3m rock.

On its main façade there is an imposing "Jesus Sacramentado" and in its interior the
regional art stands out in the altarpieces, mainly the one that covers the dome of the
altar, formed by eight columns carved in cedar wood that represent a story, the work of
the architect and Pastuso cabinetmaker Lucindo Espinosa, recognized for his
construction of the Las Lajas Sanctuary. Its interior is also decorated by the paintings of
the master Isaac Santacruz.

The cathedral rests on what was formerly the first temple built in Pasto, in memory
of San Francisco de Asís. This first construction was carried out at the suggestion of the
superior of the Franciscan Convent, Fray Jodocko Ricke, one of the most learned
missionaries who visited South America in the 16th century. In December 1822, this

Caño Cristales.

Welcome to Destinations Tour. Today we will visit the most beautiful river in the
world located in the Macarena mountain range and also known as “the river that
escaped from Paradise”, Caño Cristales has been reviewed even in the National
Geographic Magazine for a singular characteristic: its waters that are stained of fuchsia,
and along its route you can also see red, blue, black and yellow. A rainbow that you can
even touch.

The Serranía de la Macarena, which is located in eastern Colombia, has rocks from
more than 1,200 million years ago, the oldest on the planet! In the Macarena there is the
prolongation of the Guiana Shield, a geological formation that extends through Brazil,
Suriname, French Guiana, Guyana, Venezuela and a region of Colombia in the Amazon
and the department of Guainía.

The Macarenia Clavígera is the plant that gives the waters of Caño Cristales its
fuchsia color. If it does not rain (from January to June), the river will dry up and so will
the plant, exposing the impressive rocky layer of the place. However, with moderate
rain, the waters rise, the Macarenia clavígera returns to its state of splendor and Caño
Cristales shines for its spectacularity.

The geographical location of the place and the little contact that industrialized man
has had with the area means that the indigenous culture and traditions of different tribes
such as the Guayaberos still remain. In the rocks of the river you will find cave
paintings and you will be able to hear legends such as that of the "Three mirrors", which
tells the story of how the tribes delivered their offerings to the river at night and the
reflection of the moon on the stones showed the future of community.

The reasons to visit this place are:

- Your unique colors

- Its wells, pools and waterfalls
- The biodiversity of its surroundings
- Adventure tourism options
