RISK STRATIFICATION FOR DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS

Risk stratification of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) refers to the process of assessing

a patient's risk factors to determine the likelihood of developing DVT. Some

common risk factors include:

1.Immobility: prolonged bed rest, paralysis, or immobilization due to a cast or

brace.

2. Surgery: especially orthopedic, gynecological, or cancer-related surgery.

3. Hormonal changes: such as pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy, or the

use of contraceptives.

4. Medical history: previous blood clots, heart, respiratory failureand cancer

5. Age: DVT risk increases with age, especially over 60 years.

6. Obesity: body mass index (BMI) greater than 30kg/m^2.

7. Smoking: worsens the effects of other risk factors.

DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS PROPHYLAXIS

1- COMPRESSION STOCKINGS: These stockings help to promote blood flow in the

legs and reduce the risk of blood clots forming.

2- BLOOD THINNERS: Medications such as heparin or warfarin can help to thin the

blood and prevent clots from forming.

3- EXERCISE: Movement and exercise can help to improve blood flow in the legs

and prevent clotting.

4- POSITIONING: Keeping the legs elevated or changing positions frequently can

help to prevent blood from pooling in the legs and reduce the risk of clots

forming.
